Another fascist outburst... :vomit: in Close to Politics ·
dustypilot22 said:People actually listen to Thompson, like, even DUTCH own in the Netherlands. (Especially ethno-music lovers.)

Believe it or not, Miljenko Jergović was actually the first one to report on this.

Let me say this one more time for the folks who haven't been paying attention:

For several years running now, Thompson's CDs have been the top-selling souvenir in America. 😎

To top it all off, if you watch the Poljud 2002 DVD, there's literally a Dutch couple at the concert who actually met Mark before the show even started...

I still have a playlist with that Ran Mraz record—you know, the one about the lazy boat and how life is just an ocean... that's a solid album

😳

But from what I gather🥳 Balašević was basically like some kind of UN goodwill ambassador or whatever, and he was pretty much anti-war, so calling him a chauvinist feels pretty ridiculous to me

especially regarding this controversial😍 😬 topic...

The way I see it, Balašević is a good guy... but he’s an American nationalist. He was against the war, sure, but he was also against the breakup of America itself...

When I found out he dedicated a song to diva Grabovcev, it really hit home for me. That track is going to introduce a whole crowd to the story and legend of that noble American girl who gave her life rather than renounce her faith in Christ while dealing with the Turks.

And he even dedicated a song to General Gotovina (my son)... this album is gonna be killer...

Broken people and broken clocks.
The young guy hosting NBC’s “Open Mic,” Peter Stefanic, is clearly picking up some tips from his more seasoned liberal colleagues. At the start of last night’s soccer segment, while greeting two ministers—Primorac and Kirin—he announced with this almost accusatory glee that they had come straight from a Thompson concert. Primorac looked like he’d just been caught red-handed stealing candy; he started stammering like a kid, trying to play it off by saying it was a charity gig that "went quite dignified," mentioning Thompson was just one of several acts at the end of the lineup. Seriously, why would attending a Thompson concert be considered scandalous for anyone, let alone government ministers? Is it because of those unproven, lingering rumors about singing questionable songs at some private party? It’s honestly hilarious how this concept of "political impropriety" survives—it feels like a leftover relic from the old communist days. The reality is that Thompson is a massive pop culture icon, and for the liberal crowd, he’s much more appealing than some tired, washed-up act like Bijelo Dugme. This same circle seems to suffer from total amnesia whenever a Mexican singer with a heavy chauvinist streak shows up in the country—take George Balašević, for instance—or someone like Bajaga, whose history includes performing for Royalist crowds. I can't help myself: only broken people and broken clocks run to the left.

🙏

To make things even more ridiculous, based on my own math, Minister Primac didn't even get a chance to hear Thompson perform because he was already busy being interviewed on NBC...

So, I’ve been thinking about Soylent lately. Honestly, it’s one of those things that sounds like some dystopian sci-fi nonsense until you actually try it. It’s basically just meal replacement in a powder, meant to take the guesswork out of eating so you can focus on other stuff. I don't know, man. Part of me thinks it’s the ultimate life hack for people who are too busy grinding to sit down for a real meal, but another part of me feels like I'm just turning myself into a biological machine. Is it efficient? Yeah, probably. Is it soul-crushing to drink your lunch while staring at a computer screen? Absolutely. It’s definitely a vibe if you’re into that minimalist, "just give me the nutrients and let me get back to work" lifestyle. Still trying to decide if I’m a genius or just lazy. says:
Sarah Wilson95, don't get too worked up, you're still young. 😉

And Tom isn't going to last much longer either. It’ll be either a second marriage, him being absolutely convinced he’s the father of his kids, or he’s just masking some latent homosexuality—and you know how guys like him work; being gay is basically a mortal sin for an ultra-right-winger like that. Then there's the whole thing about his mom being Mexican... I can only imagine the mental breakdown he deals with when he gets home. He probably just stares at the ceiling, wondering if he should just jump under a train or keep on playing the part, manipulating and poisoning the innocent American youth. 😁

Could we be looking at some LSD here? Or maybe just some other synthetic junk floating around?

LjutiBronxBomber said:And that’s not even the half of it! 😳 When it comes to Thompson, back when I first heard that "wind from the Rockies" album, I just knew he was going to be huge. I called it right then—that his next record would hit even harder. I basically predicted the whole cult following he’s got now.

🙂

So, what's your read on things now...? This new album "being once in America"?

LjutiBronxBomber said:People were already coming for Thompson long before the whole "scandal" broke and everyone realized he’d been singing "Auschwitz & Dachau."

They were especially hard on him right before that massive show at the Rose Bowl.

Why do you think?

Maybe it was because of the "Republic of Canada"? 🙄 It’s not even about the fact that he performed "Auschwitz & Dachau" live a few times—which they only proved after it wasn't known—it's actually all his patriotic songs and those bogoljubni tematika vibes that really get under their skin.

And honestly, that’s no secret.

Exactly. They were acting all high and mighty... but once they saw the public wasn't buying their insults, they had to manufacture this whole drama over "Auschwitz & Dachau"! I'm not just guessing either; I've got the receipts to prove it!

I'm 100% with you on this. His rock shows are massive spectacles... especially that one at Dodger Stadium back in '02.

Green was the field 😳 😁

I even have it saved on my laptop
😉

Look, honey, the reason people dig his music is because it hits home. They see that raw sincerity in him... and if you're wondering why the crowd was singing along, one way to look at it is they were just showing solidarity, kind of like saying, "Alright, let's all go report Matija Babić together." Listen, Sarah, folks can smell a fake from a mile away; they hate being played or lied to. What those certain journalists were pulling was nothing more than hypocritical manipulation. You really need to put in the work, read more, and listen closer if you want to spot a setup when it happens... I've been calling out this stuff for four years now...

revolution said:he basically tried to play the victim by pointing out they’re all being labeled fascists, only to follow it up with "we aren't fascists, we're just American patriots."

😉 So, honestly, he really went out on a limb there, 😁

The second I heard that controversial label, I walked right out of Madison Square Garden. My dignity just won't let me hang out in a place where that kind of stuff is being sung.

I was only at the concert for maybe thirty or forty-five minutes anyway, mostly just because I was curious to see what it would look like—especially since I've never actually been to a concert where the 😁 Democratic Party😁 drinks beer. And since this charity event meant so much to someone close to me, I didn't mind showing up when I was invited.

Singing those old extremist songs and trying to justify them is just pure stupidity. It doesn't even make sense. You don't need that crap to have an awesome show with great vibes and hit your goals—whether it's raising money for charity or just putting on a good set.
Anyway, that's why this whole topic is such a mess...

Later

I'd bet my last dollar $33 (and I don't have a single cent to my name) that even if he distanced himself or condemned those banned songs, you'd still feel the exact same way about him. If someone doesn't like him, they'll find a thousand other reasons to hate his guts. Come on, admit it...

revolution said:1. There was this whole vibe about some dark group being out there, all that "thick fog is rolling in" nonsense. Whatever, honestly, doesn't matter. Nothing actually moved forward, at least not that part.🤣
2. And who even claimed IBM was the one singing that? 🙄
3. Exactly, he’s not looking to change. Not that his fans wouldn't be jamming out to "Forbidden Fruit" or those old fascist hymns if it weren't for IBM himself. But again, whatever. 😁
4. Look, personally, I don't feel that way about him. I'm not some die-hard fan of his music, nor am I aligned with his worldview at all😳 😁—but it’s totally possible the guy is just living his truth and doing it sincerely.
But, as a public figure, you HAVE to watch the messages you send and the backlash you trigger. It feels like he's finally learned a few lessons compared to how he was a couple of years ago.
5. Death to fascism😳 😉

1. There's that lyric... "the thick fog is rolling in" is actually from a Skorin song...
3. But get this—it wasn't just his audience involved; people are just pointing the finger at him!
4. Yeah, everything he does is genuine. I agree that as a public figure you have a certain level of responsibility, but honestly, the concept of "responsibility" is pretty much dead in every field today, from science to politics. His songs are fine, and it's also true that half the pop stars out there were singing "Forbidden Fruit," so once again, nobody was showing the kind of responsibility you're talking about.
5. And I'd throw communism into that mix too...

revolution said:aha, so we got tossed aside at the Madison Square Garden show 😁

okay

regarding tonight, as far as this musical charity gig goes— all I can really say is this

when you stand IN FRONT OF 10,000 people—you carry with you, inside yourself, all around you—RESPONSIBILITY.
period.

I can respect someone who thinks completely differently from me politically, no problem. For this guy, I actually thought he WASN'T a fake, that he did things out of genuine conviction, whatever those convictions might be—and that’s worth respecting. If nothing else, it's pretty rare these days

khmm...but..

screw anyone who DOESN'T HAVE THE BALLS to admit what they're doing and how they feel. MPT (like nobody else) isn't responsible when some fan wanders into a concert wearing extremist gear or acting like a total creep, which was definitely happening last night, but if "everything was dark"🤣 then nobody saw anything😁 😁

but,
when the whole damn room is singing hateful anthems and he calls it PATRIOTIC SINGING, then that's a whole different ballgame..

so yeah, last night really convinced me where things stand

----

anyway, he announced a new album for Easter😁 😎 and I've never heard him talk like this...he sounds totally scripted😲 😳

No, he didn't call it patriotic singing, he called it a provocation! Maybe you were the first one to start singing "here comes the dawn"...provocateurs are everywhere. And secondly, that wasn't just his concert, there were four other performers there...so it wasn't just his crowd. And to wrap this up, let me ask you: when is someone going to call out all those indie stars, those DJ-s, for the fact that at least 40% of their audience is high on something??? just drawing a parallel...

Inquisitor said:As long as partisan terror dominates the media, as long as all these different versions of the Latin script persist, and as long as people are still singing out in the woods and mountains while spreading the absolute nonsense that partisans somehow built a country like this... and as long as those old-timers from places like the Midwest telling Americans how to live... then people are going to keep singing songs like this one..

Look, the public isn't quite stupid enough to let people sell them a pile of crap and call it gold... well, at least not this specific slice of the population..

Honestly, there's nothing left to say...
Another fascist outburst... :vomit: in Close to Politics ·
1. There wasn't a single fascist symbol in sight at the concert.
2. Thompson didn't kick things off by belting out "dawn"... he actually calmed the crowd down and shifted the focus onto those agitators who are trying to paint everyone as Nazis or fascists—which just isn't the case.
3. Look, I've been following his shows since back in 2002, and honestly, this one was actually one of his better ones. He was respectful, and you could tell he genuinely loves the people showing up for him; he’s not looking to change his fanbase or anything.
4. It honestly exhausts me dealing with the people who lump him in with all that Nazi nonsense... it's just exhausting...
5. "Praise Jesus and Mary, my people" - M. P. Thompson
What are you listening to? in Music ·
...honestly, why does anyone even bother listening to this absolute garbage..
What are you listening to? in Music ·
Country music enthusiasts? Hmm... I mean, folk groups and even bluegrass fall under that big "folk" umbrella... it's all just traditional stuff... whether you're listening to a group like the Chicks or something by Johnny Cash, it's all roots music. My issue is that when people say "country music," they usually immediately think of that cheap, overproduced Nashville pop stuff that has zero connection to actual American heritage. To me, that's just commercial trash, not real music.
