Rally call: Meetup this Sunday (9/18) at 4 PM in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art
in Cycling ·
Count me in, too.
I started things off by pulling three laps around the local track on my own terms, then caught the start of the race and just hammered it straight toward the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
I was running a little behind schedule, but I managed to catch up with the pack right near the Miramar area.

Every single Sunday, I haul my entire week's worth of laundry over to the laundromat. Then, on weekday mornings, I just throw on some basic shorts, a T-shirt, and hit the road at a full sprint 🙂
Honestly, once I'm back home, I couldn't care less if I'm covered in sweat or not

Seriously though, I am NOT trying to deal with the train ride out there. No way in hell. 😲 Look, I’m telling you, those detours just aren't worth my time. I live right off Broadway, so why would I go out of my way? Besides, I don't exactly know that part of town well enough to be weaving through Times Square and dodging traffic all the way out to Houston just to reach my destination. It’s a total headache. 🤷
Look, you can just head through Queens to the right and you'll pop out right by Walmart. I’m slammed at the moment and can't walk you through it, but I can totally map it out for you on Google Maps later if you need.

I could just sit here and cry my eyes out😉
In my book, the massive issue in America isn't even the lack of stuff—like bike lanes or whatever—it’s the fact that nobody actually enforces the damn laws. It drives me insane when you see a patrol car cruise right past a vehicle parked halfway on a green strip and halfway blocking the bike lane, and they don't even bother to pull them over. I don't care if it's highway patrol or local PD; if it's illegal, write the ticket.
On top of that, cyclists need to step up and take some actual responsibility too. You can't have people riding down a busy street at 9 PM in total darkness without any lights, just staring at their phones while pedaling. Saw someone doing exactly that last night, and honestly, it's just asking for trouble.
Best route to Mount Rainier?

Patrick King7 said:drove out, felt awesome—there’s actually a spring right near that old quarry! I hit the pavement heading up toward Mount Whitney, then cut back onto the gravel paths toward Upper Kustošija. /cut
The route you just mapped out is seriously top-tier 👍
here are a few more ideas if you want to head up that way
- That singletrack/forest road combo that runs from Hunjka over to the Bureaucrats' Meadow
It's a Great Trail, not too punishing
- Hunjka-Danjka-Shumarev Grave to Old Barn Hiking Trail
A hiking trail that's getting clipped in a few spots by logging crews or leftover debris from their work; the stretch from Shumarev Grave to the barn is mostly gravel
- Hunjka Snow Queen Bureaucrat run
A forest trail where you basically just head west and ride until you hit the Snowy Guy area
Those are my picks, and honestly, they're way better than sticking to the main road 😉

Gregory Miller4 said:Look, I’m not actually from Washington, D.C., so right now I'm just playing around with Google Maps and trial-and-error to try and map out some decent cycling routes myself.🙂
My main priority is staying far away from cars—basically avoiding heavy traffic and sticking to backroads or unpaved paths whenever I can get them!
I live over on the east side of town.
So far, I’ve scouted out one killer route: you start where Vukovarska hits Main Street (lol), then pick up this pedestrian path heading northeast, cut through Borongaj, and head toward Branimirova. From there, I veer slightly west and take the trail until I pop out near the gas station on Branimirova. Then it's back onto the flats, heading up towards the outskirts until I hit Maximair. I keep going up past the agricultural college, hit St. Simon's, go through Upper Kustošija, pass through the woods at The Den, and finally end up near the base of Mount Rainier.
If you're hitting the woods at The Den and Forest Hills,
you've actually got a few different ways to play it from there.
You could cut through The Den toward Oak Ridge and then take a road via John Smith or just find another trail nearby.
Alternatively, if you head into Forest Hills, you can loop toward Markham and then catch those gravel paths leading out toward Hunjka.
From Markham, you can also push east toward the edge of town and head into Videwater. Once you're in Vidowood, there's a nice dirt stretch that takes you straight toward Green Valley.
Every single one of these loops has plenty of detours. If none of these hit the spot, just give me a shout and I'll whip up a few more options for you.😉

That’s actually what the officer told me when he pulled me over on Fifth Avenue because I was cruising down the pedestrian walkway. Honestly, I didn't know whether to laugh or just burst into tears right there on the sidewalk.
How did he even catch you? Usually, I’m already a good hundred yards away before they even realize what hit them.
It wasn't even like he "caught" me, per se. It was more like I came to a grinding halt because I couldn't weave through the absolute mob of pedestrians standing there—and then, out of nowhere, this officer, who was part of the crowd, just stepped directly into my path. 😉
In the end, my wallet stayed intact, which is the main thing, but I wasted several minutes of my life—which, let's face it, is totally pointless—trying to explain to him that there might be a slightly more civilized way to communicate than just shouting, "HEY BUDDY, YOU CAN'T RIDE LIKE THAT AROUND PEOPLE! WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?"
I think he was a little thrown off by my philosophical questions about whether cyclists actually count as human beings or something... plus, we apparently had some sort of "previous acquaintance" that made him skip the formalities and start talking to me like we were old buddies at a dive bar.

Kevin Rivera41 said:Man, we could start a whole damn epic thread just on that topic alone!!👎 😠I’m constantly talking about doing it, but I haven't actually gotten around to documenting all the absolute disaster zones out there. I mean, from the Industrial District all the way up to Sunset Boulevard, there are so many ridiculous bike lanes that just... end. Like, they literally just terminate into a concrete pillar or some random overgrown bushes. And don't even get me started on "curb ramps." I can't remember the last time I saw one that was actually functional—you know, where the curb is actually flush with the street? Usually, you're looking at a massive 3-inch ledge that’ll snap an ankle if you aren't careful.
JUST SUCK IT UP AND KEEP PUSHING!!!
That’s basically what the cop told me when he pulled me over on Vukovar Avenue for riding on the pedestrian path. Honestly, I didn't even know whether to laugh or cry right then and there 😂🙂.

I'm thinking about picking up an elliptical trainer, but I'm wondering if it's actually worth the cash. I really want to tone up my glutes, my legs, and especially my core. Does an elliptical actually do the trick for that kind of stuff?
Hey!
You might have missed it, but there's already a thread covering this exact thing. You'll probably get way more useful answers over there. 😉

Mosquitoes in NYC😲 No way, man, you gotta be kidding me.
Well, I guess since I’m coming from a major Midwestern hub, our measuring sticks are just totally different. 🤣
You guys seriously need to come down here and see what these mosquitoes 😁 😁 😁
