I’m not much for the long-winded rambling I see from some of my colleagues, so, true to form, I’ll keep this brief.

A truly stellar film. 👍

Whether you’re looking for folklore or a deep thematic core, it delivers on every front. It’s excellent.

The setting is an African village or small town, but honestly, you could transplant this entire plot to any corner of the globe. You’d only need to find a place struggling with poverty to make it work.

🙏

By the way, don't expect a single laugh out of this; there isn't a shred of comedy to be found.

Akira would have handled this with much more subtlety. With Voight’s character, he probably would have spent the final thirty minutes just sitting there in silent meditation, contemplating the sheer pointlessness of existence while knowing full well how grim the end was going to be. 🙂

Daniel Ramirez3 said:The plan was simple enough: jump onto the locomotive and bring the whole thing to a halt. That way, they could send everyone straight back to prison. Once they reach the engine, the train can be stopped properly—no need to force anyone to scale their way back up to a helicopter using nothing but a rope.

Fine, I suppose there’s some logic to that. 👍

And that’s really just one more reason why he should have waited.

What was his plan, exactly? Did he honestly think he could overpower two inmates and then somehow force them, one by one, onto a rope dangling from a helicopter? 😕

The only thing I can't wrap my head around is what on earth the conductor thought he was accomplishing by rappelling down that rope onto the moving train.

Sure, we have the benefit of hindsight knowing the tracks are about to run out, but he’s operating in the dark.

Still, why couldn't he just shadow the train and wait for it to come to a full stop before attempting to apprehend his prisoners?

If you haven't actually watched it, I fail to see the point in you weighing in at all. 🤣

A decent enough flick. Voight really brings his A-game here.

Manny finally found some peace at the end.

I wouldn't sit through it today even if someone were paying me. 😁
IMDb has it sitting at a 5/10.
Even back when I actually enjoyed it, I didn't give it a high rating.

+1.

In my estimation, The Raid: Redemption stands alone as the finest piece of action cinema we've seen in the last two decades.

Look, personally, I’m fine with it if he’s dead. It’s cleaner that way.

But, if you actually bother to dig around online, you'll find certain corners of the internet claiming he's still alive—arguing he actually showed up to visit the kid during that scene where the little guy jumps into the pool.

velvetdrifter86 said:I feel like that Indian Rambo kept the cash because he shows him holding that suitcase while talking to the woman and the kid. He basically left the money for them and told them to get lost.
But honestly, the logic with Indian Rambo still trips me up. He was waiting around for Chris to rescue the kid from those 6 or 7 kidnappers like that was his main struggle. But apparently, taking out every other person in the city—including pro hitmen and soldiers—isn't an issue at all?

Look, it’s true he mentioned to his wife that they should take the money and run. But it can't be the cash provided by the dealer. Just recall that prison scene. Rambo tells his boss they’re broke because the government froze all their accounts, and the boss makes it clear he'll kill his family if he doesn't come up with the funds.

Still, the logic regarding Indian Rambo just isn't adding up for me. He waited around for Chris to extract the kid from a room filled with maybe six or seven kidnappers, which was clearly his main hurdle. Yet, somehow, slaughtering every other professional hitman and soldier in the city isn't an issue for him?

I'm not entirely sure why you assume Indian Rambo had intel on exactly how many kidnappers were guarding the boy. That wasn't his job; he already hired Chris and his crew for that. He likely figured snatching the kid would be easier for Chris since he's just one man. Clearly, he miscalculated. 🙂
Extraction (2020) in Movies ·
Right at the beginning, this Indian version of Rambo was hell-bent on taking out Chris just because he couldn't cut him a check. But eventually, he realized that Chris actually gives a damn about the kid.

Why did the two specialists decide to join forces toward the end of the second film? It’s because they finally realized they were working toward the exact same objective: getting the kid back home safely. Furthermore, they both understood that teaming up was likely their only shot at actually pulling the mission off.

velvetdrifter86 said:Wait, so you're saying the boss basically threatened to wipe out his family unless he handed over the kid, and his response is to take on a whole squad of pro mercenaries and assassins—plus anyone else in their way, including the cops and military? Basically every paid henchman in town? Honestly, it kind of makes sense.

Have you ever heard people say certain actors just go way too hard when they're doing stunt work? I can't even remember if you're a guy or not, lol.

First off, he was the one who brought Chris and his crew on board. He knew the budget was practically non-existent, so the whole plan was...
Wait for Chris to pull the kid out of the building, then snatch him. It's all part of the play—he's targeting the boy simply because Chris proved to be a much more substantial target than this guy ever was.

I’m not sure I ever caught your drift—honestly, I can't even tell if you're a guy or a girl from the way you write—but have you ever noticed how some actors seem a little too obsessed with their stunt work? It feels like they get far too wrapped up in the physical execution of every single action sequence.

Of course I've heard the rumors. But honestly, that wouldn't even cross my mind in this situation. I’m fully convinced a pro could film a stunt like that so convincingly that it looks like he actually took the leap. There’s really no reason for the lead actor to put himself at unnecessary risk.
Extraction (2020) in Movies ·
Why is that? Chris isn't even a bad actor.

velvetdrifter86 said:Surprisingly solid action flick. It feels like everyone’s obsessed with long takes lately, but honestly, they actually worked here.

SPOILER

I don't get when this movie turned into a "buddy cop" thing. Like, why does the lead suddenly call up the guy he was just fighting half an hour ago—the same guy who wiped out his entire crew? I mean, he’s got his number! Why didn't he just give him a ring at the start and ask what the hell was going on?

SPOILER END

Do you guys think Hemsworth actually jumped like 100 feet off that cliff into the water, or was it just clever editing? 🙂

He knew he’d been played, and deep down, he never actually believed the money was real.

Do you honestly think Hemsworth actually took that thirty-meter plunge off the cliff into the water, or was it just clever editing? 🙂

Why on earth would someone actually jump?

That's like asking me if I truly believe he was actually struck by a car.

It’s hardly true that everyone is giving this a zero; I personally handed it a six. And if you bother to look at IMDb, a 6.8 rating suggests that people actually seem to enjoy the film.

What exactly do you mean by "irritating"? Are we talking about them being genuinely grating to watch because of poor acting?
Extraction (2020) in Movies ·
It isn't bad at all, really. It’s a solid action piece, though I found it quite nicely interwoven with some genuine dramatic scenes.

I’m inclined to agree; if anything, I find life in a Red state even more agreeable 👍
