When the adaptation ruins the soul of the book in Speculative Fiction (Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror) ·
Is it just me, or is the "book-to-screen" pipeline getting increasingly soul-crushing? I used to love seeing my favorite stories get big budgets, but lately, it feels like the entire process is just a machine designed to strip away everything that made the original text special. You read a masterpiece, you get attached to the characters and the specific magic of the world, and then the movie comes out and it's like a hollowed-out shell of what it was supposed to be.

It’s heartbreaking to see creators get so burned by the experience. I've seen so many instances where the people who actually poured their hearts into the writing end up feeling completely alienated from their own work once the studio gets its hands on it. It makes me wonder if we're moving toward a world where "prestige" adaptations are just marketing exercises rather than actual artistic continuations.

Does anyone else find themselves avoiding big-name adaptations now just to protect the version of the story they have in their head?
Hey,
I had nose surgery that left me with visible bumps on both sides—basically a step deformity—plus my right nasal bridge bone sank a few millimeters. If anyone has dealt with this exact mess and actually fixed it, please reach out. DM me. Thanks!

You're looking at a secondary rhinoplasty—what kind of issues are you dealing with?
Has anyone here actually gone to Pocket Clinic over on Washington Blvd for a rhinoplasty? Looking for some honest feedback on how they do things there.
