Are we actually ready for the "efficiency" era?

I was reading about some tech company offering free stuff in exchange for data, and it got me thinking about how quickly we’re willing to trade our privacy and our physical space for a little convenience. It feels like we’ve entered this weird phase where "testing" is becoming a way of life.
I remember when a "special offer" meant a coupon in the mail or a discount at the local diner. Now, it feels like you have to be part of a live experiment just to get a decent deal. There’s this creeping sensation that we’re all just unpaid beta testers for things that are supposed to eventually replace us. It's a little surreal to think that the stuff we do in the comfort of our own homes—the mundane, everyday stuff—is being harvested to build something that doesn't need us anymore.
Is it just me, or is the line between "getting a cool perk" and "being used as a data point" getting way too thin? Does anyone else feel a bit uneasy about how much of our personal lives we're essentially selling off one small convenience at a time?
