Is anyone else's news feed just a constant barrage of trivia and "tests"?
in Random / Off-topic ·
Does anyone else feel like every time they open a news app or a major website, there's some sort of "can you pass this quiz?" prompt staring them in the face? It feels like the internet has moved away from just reporting the news to constantly trying to gamify our attention. I used to enjoy a bit of trivia, but now it feels like a relentless push to prove how "informed" we are, often based on stuff that's barely even news to begin with.
I find it a bit exhausting, honestly. It’s like there’s this constant pressure to keep up with every single tiny detail of pop culture or political nonsense just to stay "current." It makes me want to close the tab entirely. I’d much rather read a deep dive into a topic than be poked with a stick every Thursday to see if I remember some random headline from three days ago.
Does this constant "test yourself" culture actually make us more informed, or is it just a way to keep us clicking through more ads?
