I’ve been watching a lot of sports lately, and I can't help but notice how much the media leans into these "motivation" storylines. Every time a powerhouse team loses a couple of games to an underdog or a rival, the pundits start talking about how "humiliated" they must be or how they'll be "hungry for redemption" in the next matchup.

To be honest, I find it a bit hard to buy into. In my experience, once the season gets going and the stakes get real, pure emotion seems to take a backseat to actual rhythm and execution. You can be as motivated as you want, but if your shooting is cold or your defense is slipping, that "desperation" usually just leads to sloppy play rather than a comeback.

I tend to stick to the stats and recent form, but sometimes I wonder if there's a psychological edge to these grudge matches that the numbers don't capture. Do you guys think these "must-win" narratives actually impact the outcome, or is it mostly just noise for the broadcasters?
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
I've installed Windows 7 a few times now without even using a key—just hit install and everything worked fine, fully activated...
Recently I did a clean reinstall of everything, and today I notice it's telling me I have "28 days until activation"... Help?!
Is this because I let automatic updates run? Did they push out some update specifically to shut down my non-genuine Windows?!

Right, because clearly every single person in this thread owns legitimate copies! 🤣

In the system settings under performance... you know, those visual effects? I've turned almost all of them off. It’s a thing—I honestly feel like the PC runs snappier when they're disabled, though maybe it's just my head playing tricks on me. Either way, I don't see why most people bother with them when the base Windows 7 doesn't even need them... well, aside from Aero and those other visual flourishes...
don't get me wrong...
Windows 7 in Software ·
If I’d known sooner, I would've just gone with the "standard" version—these Aero gimmicks and visual fluff drive me crazy. They just eat up RAM for no reason... hmph, I don't know. I demand raw performance, not some flashy nonsense, and honestly, I'm still not satisfied. With a 3.0 dual core and 6GB, editing Full HD video is a total disaster.
And this new media player supposedly supports those formats, but it won't even play the audio...
Man...

I see some other download speeds look pretty decent.
Quick question—I’ve got my Windows update settings set to manual so I can pick and choose what gets installed, which is fine, but now I’m stuck wondering if there are actually any critical updates I'm missing. I hate when AdwCleaner ends up with a massive pile of stuff I don't recognize... plus, is there any chance Windows update will realize I'm running a non-genuine copy and just—I don't know—screw over my OS or something?

Try downloading something straight from Microsoft's own servers—then you'll see how fast that actually goes 🙂

Look, I don't care about the speed itself—it's the fact that Windows gives you a download timer that's completely useless..
It'll claim one second left when it's actually still got another 15 seconds to go... I checked once it hit the 59-second mark
Windows 7 in Software ·
So, I think it used to work exactly how it says—if it shows 5 minutes, then it’s actually 5... though I can't be 100% sure.
And all these random things I'm finding online, like those RapidShare accounts mostly packed in RAR files—is there anything actually useful there, or is it just a massive virus trap? (Just asking.)
Windows 7 in Software ·
When I'm downloading from RapidShare, it starts off saying there's 20 minutes left, then suddenly jumps down to 10—but the actual file takes like 40 minutes to finish!
When it hits the home stretch and claims there are only 2 minutes left, it’s actually still going for another 5. Either way, the timer is a total lie...

I haven't really messed around with that burner much—only used it once to burn an ISO file...
now I'm not even sure how well it plays with different file types?
Windows 7 in Software ·
1. Is there any point in installing Nero il something similar on Windows 7? I noticed it comes with a DVD burner... if so, what's the actual benefit?

2. This media player—or whatever they're calling it now—is playing AVCHD 1920x1080 files perfectly fine without any stuttering. That's a huge win since that format is usually a nightmare, but there's zero sound...
MP3s work fine. My sound card is an EMU 0404 USB.

3. I'm trying to figure out how to get my WLAN card to actually hit those "transmission speeds of up to 108M." Both the card and the router support it, but I'm stuck at 54 Mbps and can't find any settings to bump it up... apparently, there aren't any other drivers available besides the standard ones from Windows for 64-bit.

I've got a whole list of other questions, but I can't wrap my head around them all right now.

I'm looking for some tips—you know, those little tweaks—like which programs I can just kill off to stop win 7 from eating up all my RAM...
Windows 7 in Software ·
It’s been driving me nuts.
I’m heading back to XP ali 64 bit this time—hoping I might actually see some better performance out of it... though who knows if I'm just kidding myself.

Sorry, I'm talking about Windows Proto Viewer...
I honestly have no clue why I'm the only one running into this issue...
Are the letters 100% too small for you? Hmm, let me go try that now...
Oh, right—those colors. It's like this viewer is stuck in 16-bit mode, because the shading is just as weird as I mentioned before...

edit... everything is exactly the same, except the fonts are slightly smaller on Windows itself... nope. The Viewer still isn't working right, though I guess not everyone will notice. Anyway, does anyone know some lightweight software similar to a viewer? Basically, I just need to browse files and have a delete option...
Windows 7 in Software ·
I didn't mess with those settings back then—didn't want to end up staring at a blank screen..
Bumped it up to 125...
I've got this nagging feeling that WinFax... the image viewer is rendering things at 16-bit or whatever instead of 32—even though I definitely have it set to 32.
It's wrecking the midtones so badly it's actually ridiculous.
Windows 7 in Software ·
@ stormycanyon4, looks like you and I are the only ones here who don't need glasses
Windows 7 in Software ·
Back to my original headache again...
I'm checking out some photos in that Viewer, but something feels off. I'm noticing this shadow on a face—it looks like the midtones are all blocky and pixelated. When I pull the same photo up in Photoshop, though, it looks perfectly fine—no weird blocky patches at all. So, it’s definitely not the monitor.
Windows 7 in Software ·
I see there's a VGA-to-DVI cable lying around—not sure if that would actually do anything here?
Windows 7 in Software ·
I've got a dedicated GPU, but my monitor only has one usable port—there’s a slot there, but it’s just a plastic plug, so... yeah, no luck there. I don't think it's the monitor itself, though—it's funny how this started right when I switched over to Windows 7. Apparently, other people ran into the exact same mess after installing Windows 7 64-bit, too... but there's just zero info out there on how to fix it.
Most of the text looks crisp enough—honestly, if the font were a little smaller, it might be better, but whatever. For instance, while I'm typing this right now, everything looks great, but those "private messages" up there? They're all blurry... so it's clearly not an issue with the monitor or the graphics card... it's just how things are.
And then there's Facebook—those thumbnails (or whatever they call them, you know what I mean) are incredibly blurry... but once I actually click on them, the image looks perfectly fine.
Windows 7 in Software ·
@ ironcanyon9, so you're moving to 64-bit? Makes sense—32-bit just caps out at 3GB

And about that blurry image—you really need to upscale it before trying to make sense of it...
I'm comparing it to my laptop right now; it's running XP, and even looking at something like CNN, which looks kind of grayish there, looks more bluish on my setup... though it's sharper here.
I cranked the contrast on my Dell Monitor all the way up to get a sharper picture, but all I did was wash everything out—now those light blue parts on Facebook look completely white!
