Migrating from MVI to MVC: Best practices? in IT Support ·
So I just picked up this new TV, right? And it turns out it doesn't support AVI files at all... which is such a pain. Does anyone know if there's actually a way to convert an AVI over to MVC

You could always go private first if you feel like you need to act fast, and just put your name on the list here at the same time... Then, once it’s finally your turn, hey, you've got a second opinion ready to go..

Alright, thanks!

I was thinking about going private because the wait times for these guys are like 2 or 3 months...

It doesn't bother me at all unless it starts affecting my child, and honestly, she loves having those two hours free while everyone else is stuck in class. It probably would have been a massive headache if those hours weren't scheduled first thing in the morning, but since she gets to head to school a bit later, it's actually perfect for her.
I suspect their teacher plays a huge role in preventing any kind of discrimination here, especially since she’s personally against having religion classes in schools anyway.
As long as nobody is messing with me or causing problems for us, I'm fine with it. I honestly don't know how I'd react if this became an actual issue, because at the end of the day, it's my kid who has to deal with the fallout, and that's likely why this indoctrination sticks so well—parents are too afraid to put their children on the front lines. So, step by step, that's just how we ended up here.

Having a teacher like that is such a blessing..
When people move to Germany, they have to declare whether they are religious or not. And obviously, you pay the tax if you identify as a believer. Of course, in that moment, most people—if not all—claim they aren't religious just to avoid that extra tax, whereas back in America, everyone acts like a devout believer and sends their kids to religious classes just because "that's what everyone does."
We really need to blame the government here for not knowing how to say "no" to the church and instead standing up for being a secular nation.
Crosses are everywhere—hanging over hospital beds, in daycare centers, in schools, workplaces... it's spreading through society like a disease.

In my opinion, a huge number of kids sign up for religious ed classes just because they don't want to feel left out or like they're somehow less than their peers. But it totally backfires. You end up with 99% indoctrinated little ones, and all the church really does is dull the public's intellect, making everyone easier to control. Instead of focusing on actual science, we're stuck obsessing over Noah's Ark and this idea that all the animals were suddenly peaceful... like foxes weren't eating chicks, or bears weren't hunting fish... 🤦

What really gets to me, though, is this stuff:

Why isn't any of this being taught in those religion classes?

Well, then you should be the ones sending your kids to those classes!!

Paul Campbell3 said:The New York Times dug up the numbers on payouts from the last five years—specifically from 2014 through 2019. They calculated that the Catholic Church received about $250 million. But hold on, that’s just scratching the surface. Once you factor in teacher salaries, funding for ministry, money for restoring Catholic cultural sites, and support for religious schools and universities, that total jumps to roughly $550 million. We're talking about nearly $110 million every single year.

☕

This is just awful...

The Supreme Court already made its stance clear back in February: Congress actually has the power to vote on this, to basically pull religious education out of public schools if they wanted to... but clearly, there's no actual political will here. It's not about principle, it's about interests... it's about cushy jobs, money, power, and egos. And I'm not just blaming the current administration, either... even the previous quasi-liberal leaders didn't have the guts to touch anything "sacred." They could have renegotiated the Vatican Treaty while they were in charge, or maybe pushed for curriculum reform, but they just didn't...

It would be so incredibly interesting if they actually built a school specifically for kids who don't participate in religious studies. If they did that, the percentage of kids attending those classes would probably drop by half overnight...

Good grief, I had a friend claim he was Orthodox once. How can you call yourself Orthodox when you've never even stepped foot in a church or been baptized?
Well, yeah, we follow the old calendar at our house.

My kid starts first grade next year and I’m honestly terrified they’re going to be isolated. We live in this part of Washington, D.C. where everyone drives around with rosaries hanging from their rearview mirrors. It's everywhere... there's a cross at the entrance of our local Elementary School, a cross in the hallway, a cross in the classroom. It’s just constant. Who even cares anymore? This religious aggression is creeping into every corner of society. It starts at the infant baptism stage, carries through the schools, and even shows up in hospitals where there are crosses hanging over the hospital beds. God, those crosses...
The "secular" state we live in is anything but secular.
If we actually lived in a secular country, an Elementary School wouldn't be named after someone like Stepinac, who had some pretty controversial views on women and marriage... At this rate, schools are going to start being named after people like Luburić because our administrators are basically clergy in what's supposedly a "secular" nation.
It isn't secular at all; the church's influence is spreading through society like a disease.

But hey, maybe it's not them—maybe it's us. We're the ones sitting around messaging each other instead of actually voting. (I do vote, and I was even at that protest for a secular state, but hardly anyone showed up...)

Some really interesting links here:

I don't want to go off on too much of a tangent though...
Does anyone have recommendations for an Elementary School in D.C. that doesn't have a religious bias?

And what do the kids even do while they're waiting for religion class to start? There was once a suggestion that religion should be the very first or very last period so the kids aren't just wandering the halls aimlessly.

Please, let me know your experiences.

P.S. This thread has been dragging on for like 15 years!!

I’m hoping I’ve got the right spot here to ask for some help... I'm looking to pick up a new PC with a budget of maybe $0.83 at most. It doesn't need to be anything crazy, just something reliable for browsing the web, getting some work done in Microsoft Office, and playing the occasional light game online—nothing heavy, just stuff like World of Tanks... I don't need an OS included since I've already got a licensed version of Microsoft Windows ready to go. Any suggestions on what I should look for?

Thanks, everyone
Concert Announcements - Archive in Music ·
Hey everyone,

So, a few weeks back, I went ahead and bought tickets through this specific company, and they were supposed to mail them out via certified mail. Since we weren't actually in Chicago at the time to pick them up, I've been trying to track them down... sending emails, calling their cell, just trying to figure out where my tickets are, but absolutely nobody is getting back to me. Nothing. Just radio silence.
What should I even do now? The concert is coming up fast and I can't get a hold of anyone!

Thanks for any help you guys can give me
