Do you listen to East-RA?

Ashley Grant66 said:Mickey and Minnie Mouse

Yeah, I get it—I had one of their tracks that actually held up about a decade ago. They were definitely on my radar back then, but they just never quite made the cut. 🤣
I'm stuck in that certain loop again. Tera Melos. I suppose some of them remain somewhat dear to me—from a distance, at least.

Just another COVID-missed concert—though, honestly, maybe we wouldn't even have this situation if we hadn't?*

I listened to everything—but I’m just not feeling it. It feels a bit pretentious to me. Thanks for the effort, though.

Ashley Grant66 said:Edit: Oh, and Drew Lewis2—I forgot to mention that I actually think JW Francis is pretty cool. 😁 Description: Lofi jangle dream slacker bedroom pop—basically an NYC everything bagel topped with scallion cream cheese.

Yeah, but honestly—that’s the only thing I've actually heard from him. 😁 It’s worth looking into—really.

Lisa Davis46 said:Breaking out of a rut—it’s harder than people want to admit. We get stuck in these cycles, don't we? Same routines, same patterns, same predictable outcomes. It becomes comfortable, which is exactly why it's dangerous. You have to force the shift if you ever want to see anything different.

OP, I wasn't expecting this from their lineup—maybe I just don't have it on my disc? 😁
They’re somewhere in the same ballpark as Crystal Castles for me—fine for a casual listen now and then, but I wouldn't call myself a fanatic.

wiredmason61 said:My tooth—the one I had pulled yesterday—is killing me. 🕺

Wait—what number are we talking about?

Ashley Grant66 said:Yeah, they’re great. They have a billion albums out—I haven't sat down to listen to their entire discography yet—but honestly, everything I catch sounds good. You can really feel how much they influenced Ariela and the rest of the crew. Here: something

thanks! I love it when they include stuff like this on Bandcamp.

New York 3 wow

Wow, there are some genuinely unexpectedly good parts here. Some days they were just stuck in a swampy cul-de-sac in whatever current lineup they had going.

wiredmason61 said:Better a grave than a slave. 😛 Jokes aside—I miss the crew from last year. They were the ones helping me track down interesting new artists. Whether it’s due to the pandemic or something else, everything feels smaller lately.
So, here’s a round for Drew Lewis2, Jules, Mark R., and late B...: Pivo:

NP Pete Josef (feat. Marie Lister) - Giants ...

Well, thanks. It's great. 😁 I'm still hanging around, about three pages behind.

Ashley Grant66 said:👍 Tenks, interesting album. You can really feel those elements you mentioned, though I have to admit I don't get the Slint vibe all that much...
Elephant talk honestly sounds like it belongs on Remain in light. 😛
Indiscipline and Thela Hun Ginjeet were wild to me.
It feels like The Mars Volta listened to this a lot. 😁

Cymande

Of course—Adrian Belew, King Crimson's guitarist, played a bit with the Talking Heads (apparently they even asked him to replace Byrne, but he turned them down). That's one of my favorite YouTube clips. Same with "The Great Curve." ^^

And Adrian had some seriously incredible luck. He played with Zapp, Bowie, Talking Heads, King Crimson...
I think even a little bit with Nine Inch Nails, if I recall correctly. 😁

That Cymande track is legendary.

Hey! You laid everything out so clearly that I was immediately—well, we were immediately—on board. 😁They just started the concert, and honestly? It’s twice as good as that recent set they did on NBC. I’m running into two issues with my private messages:
1) Every single message sent to me is being automatically forwarded to Drew Lewis2—the user with the same handle, just without the apostrophe.
2) For the last two weeks, anyone trying to DM me gets an error saying my inbox is full. It isn't.

Free concert, though you had to book via Entry—they capped attendance due to COVID protocols. They bumped up the capacity by expanding the courtyard, presumably because interest was higher than expected. Quince and Rocko opened—quite compelling, actually; it seems she gains a lot from these collaborations. It’s as if adding more instruments simply bolsters her existing ethno vibe. She mentioned that Kololir will be at the same venue in a week, which will likely follow a similar formula, just with a larger ensemble.

As for The Strokes, they were doing their usual thing (😁) offering a million different textures—warmth, grit, sonic clarity, complexity, simplicity—all perfectly executed. 😁 I think they led with most of the tracks from their latest release before digging into the old stuff. Since the crowd was thin and our vantage point was perfect—plus we had the night sky and the moon behind them (followed by some lightning :G)—it made me think: enjoy these bands while they're still together. You never know—either the crowd grows too large and the noise becomes distracting (think Dennis Hall41's clinics), or the band simply breaks up (like Vlasta Popic) and that's it.
There was an encore where Samo basically defended himself, saying, "Did you know we don't have short songs? You asked for this yourselves," 😁 delivered in his hilarious blend of Slavic dialects. Anna and Isaac are incredible musicians (she on vocals)—Samo is perhaps just a hair less so, but he connects those mantra-like repetitions beautifully and has a damn good voice that they barely used—which is a missed opportunity, really. 😁

The whole thing ran quite long, from about 9:25 PM until midnight. 🙏
