Connecting a MacBook Air to a monitor in Laptops ·
That isn't even the core issue—I can certainly lug the thing around. The real problem, which I find quite frankly insulting, is that I refuse to trade a pristine, brand-new Apple for an HP that’s already three years old.

I can't tell you offhand whether it features an HDMI port or not, as the machine is sitting at my house right now.
In any case, we are discussing a new model equipped with an i7 processor. Is there more than one configuration for this specific model, or is that enough information for you to provide an answer?

Edit:
It ought to possess all of the following specifications:
One USB 2.0 port

One USB 3.2 Gen 1 (3.1 Gen 1) Type-A port

One USB 3.2 Gen 1 (3.1 Gen 1) Type-C port

One HDMI port

One Ethernet port (RJ-45)

HDMI 1.4 version

Combined microphone/headphone jack: Yes

Is that USB-C actually the same port I use to plug in the charger? I am under the impression that it is.

No, the docking station stays at the office, obviously! But that would mean I’d have to lug my laptop back and forth to work every single day. Right now, my schedule is split—two days in the office and three days working from home—but my laptop is perpetually stuck at home while my workstation stays glued to my desk at the office.

I need to compose a rather heated email right this second, so I just want to be absolutely certain that the Latitude can connect to the monitor; I really need that confirmation before I hit send.

One colleague of mine is using a nearly identical Apple model, and she just plugs everything directly into that single port used for charging. It looks just like a USB-C port, though the monitor labels it with an "SS" designation. The issue is, my OptiPlex monitor doesn't even feature that kind of input unless you're looking at the back of the tower itself—the connection is built right into the chassis. And, of course, management is digging their heels in about me having two separate computers; personally, I wouldn't mind keeping both setups running simultaneously without any fuss whatsoever.
Connecting a MacBook Air to a monitor in Laptops ·
I’ve been using this laptop for work for about six months now. On the other hand, at my office, I have an OptiPlex—one of those tiny little units that mounts right onto the back of the monitor.

It just occurred to me that having two separate machines isn't exactly standard procedure, so management has decided they want to take my Latitude away from me. Their "solution" is to give me a docking station and a brand-new laptop, which I would then lug back and forth between my house and the office every single day just to maintain some semblance of continuity.

In theory, that sounds fine, but here is the rub:
- This Latitude is fantastic, and it was absolutely pristine when they handed it to me (and it still is)
- The HP they want to swap it for is almost certainly some old, refurbished relic salvaged from someone who just retired

Naturally, I pushed back and told them this arrangement doesn't work for me, but their whole justification is that they can't have employees carrying around two different company computers—which is exactly what I'm doing right now—and they claim I was just a special case that they finally need to "fix."

I went ahead and asked why they couldn't just hook my Latitude up to the monitor at the office, and they had the audacity to tell me that, unfortunately, that specific model isn't capable of it.

I am quite certain that is nonsense, so I’m turning to you all: how exactly can a Latitude be connected to a monitor? I realize it might not have a proprietary docking port, but surely I can just use a cable?
How to avoid catching a cold in Health ·
Alright, I make it a point to stick to my routine once a day 😁

Generally speaking, I try to maintain a balanced intake of fruits and vegetables, though I fully intend to ramp up my consumption and perhaps even invest in some sort of dietary supplement—even if, truth be told, its efficacy ends up being nothing more than a psychological placebo.

I find myself constantly surrounded by crowds in this massive metropolis, and frankly, I feel like I’m just a walking target for every single virus passing through the city.
How to avoid catching a cold in Health ·
I’ve always been incredibly susceptible to these viral bugs. My body eventually fights them off—honestly, I tend to shake them off much faster than most people do—but those first two days are absolutely brutal, and I find myself having to rely on Tylenol with Vitamin C just to stay functional enough to get through my workday.

I make a concerted effort to maintain a healthy diet and cook most of my meals at home (though, if I'm being completely honest, I end up ordering pizza for lunch far more often than I should 🙂), and I generally manage to get somewhere between seven and eight hours of sleep... The one area where I truly fall short is physical activity, as I don't really engage in any regular exercise 😢 Aside from that, I take a B-complex supplement because I struggle with skin peeling on my hands. I think I might give some propolis a try; I’ve never actually used it before.
How to avoid catching a cold in Health ·
Regrettably, I seem to be perpetually susceptible to the common cold whenever the colder months roll around. I have never once opted for a flu shot, primarily because I am aware its efficacy is limited strictly to influenza—an ailment I practically never encounter, as it never actually puts me in bed or sends my temperature soaring. However, these standard colds and viral infections are exceptionally intense, and they prove to be an immense hindrance to my ability to carry out my daily responsibilities.
It is an unfortunate reality that I am not one for regular exercise, and since I rely on incredibly overcrowded public transit to get to the office, it is quite commonplace for me to fall ill three or four times during the winter season. Does anyone happen to have a recommendation for a specific remedy or supplement that might actually provide some relief?

It’s not even about some button on a remote control; I am casting everything directly from my smartphone. It gave me that selection menu just once before, but now? Nothing. Why on earth would it stop doing that? 🙂
So, here is the workflow: you start playing the video on your phone, you tap those three little dots in the top right corner for options, and normally there should be a choice. But lately, when I try, the menu only offers Subtitles and one other thing—there is absolutely no option for quality settings anymore.

And don't even try telling me it's a bandwidth issue; even at a mere 20Mbps, it should be plenty because my connection is rock solid, and I can stream 1080p on my laptop without a single stutter or hiccup.
The catch is that the router is actually in a different room—it's sitting on the floor in the upstairs bedroom, whereas the TV is mounted on the wall down below 🙂. Regardless, I specifically invested in a high-end Cisco router precisely to ensure we had seamless coverage throughout the entire house.

Alright, thanks for the help. Sometimes it feels like the quality just gets stuck at 720p, whereas my actual intention is to have it locked in at 1080p whenever possible.
It honestly remains a complete mystery to me why I was once presented with the option to manually select the resolution while watching on my smart TV, only for that functionality to vanish into thin air immediately afterward?
YouTube app on smart TVs in IT Support ·
To lay out the situation: I have an Apple TV, and my home internet speed is sitting at 20 Mbps—which, frankly, is quite fast and reliable enough for most tasks.
I’ve started noticing that the video quality occasionally drops significantly when I play a clip on the TV, performing much worse than it actually should be, considering the video is available in both 720p and 1080p resolutions.

When I cast a video from my phone, I noticed earlier today that you can actually tap those three little dots to manually select 1080p, which immediately fixes the quality on the TV. However, now, when I attempt to watch that exact same clip, that specific option has vanished entirely. Why on earth is that? All I see are the Subtitles and some other setting—maybe something regarding blocking? The ability to choose the resolution is simply gone.

Is there some way to force the system to always default to the highest available quality? In my case, since the TV isn't 4K, I just want it locked at 1080p. And why does this happen inconsistently? It’s the literal same video every single time, yet the options change.

My previous gift just bit the dust on me, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a Logitech M705; it should be arriving in a few days, and once it does, I will be sure to report back with my detailed impressions.🙂

I am currently applying some Aquaphor; I happened to have a tube lying around the house, and it appears to be doing the trick.
Dry, crusty nose: what works? in Health ·
I happened to stumble upon this old thread while digging through the archives, so I certainly hope it's acceptable to pose a question here.

For several months now, I have been struggling with these rather painful scabs and irritations inside my nose. I was a regular at the local YMCA pool through the end of June, and I am increasingly convinced that the constant exposure to chlorine is the culprit preventing these wounds from healing properly. Since I live right on the coast, I also spend a significant amount of time in the ocean, which hasn't helped matters one bit.
Could anyone suggest an effective remedy for this specific issue? Unfortunately, all the pharmaceutical options here in the States are prohibitively expensive, so perhaps someone could recommend a herbal or natural alternative?
Wireless mouse recommendations? in Computer Peripherals ·
I just received this as a gift, so I'm not about to go out and buy a new one myself.
To be perfectly honest, I'm not exactly thrilled with it; the scroll wheel lacks any sense of precision—it isn't even "stepped," it’s just one continuous, smooth motion, which I find quite disagreeable—and I've heard through the grapevine that it's a total battery hog.
Wireless mouse recommendations? in Computer Peripherals ·
I see it listed on Amazon for about $35. Does that seem like a fair price to you? I’m curious, what did you end up shelling out for yours? And more importantly, how does the ergonomics actually feel during a long session?
Wireless mouse recommendations? in Computer Peripherals ·
Let me elaborate on that a bit.
I am certainly not looking for anything for gaming purposes. My current focus is strictly office-oriented—I’m deep in the weeds right now working on my thesis and spending a massive amount of time reading through various papers and online forums. I spend a significant portion of my day glued to the computer.
In the interim, my brother has been lecturing me about avoiding wireless setups entirely, claiming they are almost always imprecise and plagued by latency issues. Is there any truth to that assertion?
It doesn't necessarily have to be wireless, though I would ideally prefer a short cable if I go that route.
The most critical factors for me are ergonomics, a shorter cord length, and a larger physical profile—I definitely don't want a tiny little mouse.

As for pricing, I honestly haven't looked into the current market trends, but I have no intention of buying some cheap, bottom-of-the-barrel junk. That said, I also don't want to overspend on something absurdly expensive, especially since, as I mentioned, gaming isn't my priority.
Wireless mouse recommendations? in Computer Peripherals ·
I’ve been doing some digging through this thread, so I figured I would just jump in here rather than cluttering things up by starting an entirely new topic.
I am looking for some solid recommendations for a reliable wireless mouse—specifically something with a larger footprint and better ergonomic support. For years now, I have been stuck using one of those tiny, cramped little mice meant for laptops, and frankly, my hand is absolutely paying the price for it; the discomfort is becoming quite significant. Furthermore, if anyone could point me toward a reputable website where I might order one online at a reasonably competitive price, I would be most grateful.🙂

Walter Jackson48 said:If you follow my fourth point, you should first navigate to Insert page Number, which will then populate the fourth page (in my specific document) with the number 4. However, if you want it to display as 1 instead of 4, you need to select the Format Page Number icon and ensure the "Start at" box is checked so it begins from 1. Essentially, your first section would remain blank while the second section commences from 1 onwards.

As for me, I simply hadn't toggled off the link to previous setting. It is sorted now, thank you.

placidcobra49 said:I went ahead and put together a little video tutorial just for you, specifically detailing how to get those page numbers started from page five—or honestly, whatever page you happen to need. Now, keep in mind that the version of Microsoft Word 2003 I’m running is set to German, but since the command layout remains identical regardless of the language settings, you shouldn't have any trouble navigating through the menus to find exactly what you need to click. 👍

Regarding the matter of page numbering within Microsoft Word 2003—a subject that, quite frankly, deserves far more scrutiny than most users ever bother to give it. I find myself frequently returning to these fundamental structural issues when my document formatting begins to unravel like a cheap sweater. One must be incredibly precise if one wishes to maintain any semblance of professional order. To properly initiate this process, you really ought to navigate toward the Insert menu and select Insert page number, though I have found that many people simply stumble through the menus without a clear understanding of what they are actually accomplishing. It is a tedious necessity, certainly, but essential for anyone attempting to produce a coherent manuscript.

I appreciate the effort, and I managed to pull it off without needing to sit through a video tutorial, though I must insist you revisit my earlier response above; I am still running into those same frustrating issues.
Always having issues with Microsoft Word :) in Software ·
Well, it seems we have achieved some measure of success, though I must admit, certain elements remain stubbornly unresolved.

I have managed to successfully create two distinct sections, yet I find myself facing a most frustrating technical impasse: whenever I attempt to Insert page number, the software insists on numbering both the first section and the second section, whereas my sole intention was to have the numbering applied exclusively to the second section.
I am encountering yet another grievance, one that defies all logical explanation: for some inexplicable reason, the software refuses to align my numbers to the right. It will happily settle for center alignment, and it will dutifully obey a command for left alignment, but when I specifically request a right alignment? Absolutely nothing. I select the right-align option, clicking through the menus with what I assumed was precision, yet the numbers stubbornly remain anchored to the left corner as if they simply refuse to acknowledge my existence. 🤔

I also find myself grappling with this particular nuisance regarding section breaks. In my initial four-page section, I am attempting to restrict the Header so that it only appears on the third and fourth pages—or perhaps, if it isn't too much trouble, simply omit it from that first section entirely. However, the software seems determined to force it onto the second page regardless of my intentions! Does anyone have any insight into how to resolve this? Help?

I simply cannot wrap my head around this—I go to delete the Header in my first section, only to find that the second section has been wiped clean as well! If the changes propagate like that, then what was even the point of creating two distinct sections in the first place? It feels entirely futile. I am sitting here staring at the screen, wondering exactly where I went wrong in this process. Where did I miss the mark?
