basically 👍 I've got my commute 12 miles one way and I ride my bike every single day from April through November. The rest of the year, I'll head out if the weather actually behaves...
if I lived closer to 3.1 miles I'd be doing it all year long, no question about it...
I think I actually agree with Dwayne Johnson for once 👍 I’ve been gaming pretty much all year, but whenever we get those few days of snow and chaos in New York City, I skip the PC and head out to Mount Rainier for the weekend. Then I just drive to work.

go Steve go Steve Go Steve 🎉 🎉 🎉
Just told my wife I'd be working until 3.1 miles. Honestly, there wouldn't be a single day where I wouldn't bike if it weren't for days like this when it's 12 miles... then it's a whole different story. 😢
Yeah, I actually headed out there myself over the weekend just to test things out... Let me know how it goes 👍
Think of Međa as being like Bologna...everything from there toward Mount Rainier is basically Gajnice, and then towards Sava Stenjevec...well, that's just a rough estimate 😉
driftinggull83 said:uh, yeah, I’ve got zero nerves left, zero patience, and honestly, not enough experience for places like Bologna or Ilisu. The embankment hasn't been fixed since Jankomir? I've never actually been there. I'm actually near Gajnice, on the other side of the tracks—maybe that's Sava Stenjevec—so I was thinking maybe from that side, through Malesnica? thanks.
The embankment is pretty poorly maintained, but the real nightmare is that until summer hits, rain just pools everywhere. You'll be constantly dodging puddles and showing up to work covered in mud. Plus, that constant rattling... it's just not for me.
That's Sava Stenjevec 😉
Then you've got a decent route: mostly on the bike path > Sava Stenjevec > through Malesnica toward Antunovic, then follow the path to Selski > cross the old bridge, head through Kaiserica to Central Park, and then keep going toward Velikogoricka...
I don't know the exact mileage, but plan on it taking at least an hour...
I ride from Sava Stenjevec to downtown, and my buddy used to do the stretch from Aurora to Glendale, so if you're asking about distance, what you're planning is totally doable.
Route-wise, I’d probably take Bologna > Ilicica > Filipovicka > Dezeliceva > Val > Miramarska > Bratske Zajednice > Central Park > Velikogoricka...
Just a heads up though—all those roads get super busy during rush hour. You'll definitely need some serious nerves, focus, and experience to bike like that.
@Jeffrey Garcia11/">@@Jeffrey Garcia11 How do they actually handle on clean pavement? Honestly, it’s such a pain to put them on once it starts snowing, then having to strip them off when the snow melts... but if I can ride on them through February or March, then the investment is totally worth it. 👍
I feel like you hit the nail on the head—it’s just a smooth, lacquered surface. Since the frame itself is rough, they probably sanded this part down and coated it just so the sticker would actually stick. Personally? I don't think you'll get that off without a fight, though it doesn't look too bad right now...
Ronald Diaz, regarding what we were talking about in that other thread, this isn't quite what I had in mind. I still have a layer of adhesive left on my end, but it looks totally different—I actually wiped it down with some 100% isopropyl alcohol. Honestly, it feels like they overcoated this thing...
Just did a quick test run during my evening commute... Trying to figure out how long this takes because I've officially decided to start biking to work every single day starting March 15th!
45 min each way to the office - 10 miles 55 min on the ride home - 11 miles
The times and mileage are a little different since I take a slightly different route back...
I'm with you on that... the wedge I picked up, once you compare it to those $50 $33 bags, the difference is night and day... But honestly, it’s still feeling a little $333 too bulky for a laptop bag or just throwing in the trunk... Plus, this Abus one is pretty ugly 😁
Ronald Diaz said:Check out what Topeak offers, they have some really nice bike bags😉
Topeak is awesome, but man, it's pricey...
I picked up their saddle bag (the wedge XL) this summer and you can seriously tell the difference compared to the cheap stuff (the aluminum mount, the material quality, etc.). It was about $67...
The other day I was looking at their trunk bag with the QR system and a laptop bag that mounts on top, and over at Dick's Sporting Goods, the price is around $300...
Right now I'm eyeing that Dyn bag... or whatever it's called...
Basically, if you want a name brand to carry more than just a few tools, it's hard to find anything under $100...
Just looking back at what I wrote almost a year ago and man, I gotta admit I’ve changed my mind. Honestly? Right now, I'd much rather just take the subway tracks...
Nathan Castillo8 said:🙂 but I didn't actually get my bike until December 🙂 Sadly, I don't have any real gear yet so I still look like a total newbie, but I made the trip... here's the route 16 miles 🙂 http://t.co/qEzsPEZ0
I really hope someone else here has a longer commute than I do 😁 I did a test run to work this past Saturday to see how wet roads would be, and man, I came home soaked to the bone 🙂
I found this perfect setup from REI for carrying my computer on my bike (rack + laptop bag with a mounting rail), but the price tag is just brutal 🙄 like $100 for the rack and $183 for the bag...
I think I'll just invest in a pannier and maybe a bike bag or some cheap saddlebags this year. Carrying a backpack is killing me—not even because of the sweat (I have a shower at work) but just the weight of the laptop and everything else...
Anyway, I'm planning to start biking to work again around mid-March 👍
wearyotter36 said:Man, carrying just a laptop and shoes? That sounds like plenty to me, though I bet there's more you'd want to pack. Honestly, maybe if you had more room you'd carry even more stuff and be way more comfortable lol, but hey, you know what works best for you.
Well, right now I'm lugging a laptop and shoes plus two extra shirts, jeans, a belt, bike tools, a spare tube, a pump, my wallet, two sets of wrenches, deodorant, cologne, and a bunch of other little things.🤣
Actually, thinking about it now... maybe those shorts aren't such a bad idea after all.😂
