Desktop PC build for $750? in Desktops ·
My bad, there was a little mix-up regarding the pricing.
I was transcribing everything and accidentally listed individual prices without sales tax, even though I included tax in the total price for the full PC build.
So, basically, I have two different quotes. One is roughly $1667 and the other is about $1933.
At the end of the day, if I’m reading this right, there isn't much of a technical difference between the first and second options. There’s really no reason to shell out $5,800 when I can get almost the exact same thing for around $5,000.
That was my main dilemma.

Timothy Kim60 said:Where are you getting those prices? Are they pre-tax? There's no way an i5 3350p is $325 when even the cheapest wholesale option on is more, or an r9 280 via $500 and so on...
With tax included, that's way over $1667
.
Besides, you’re actually getting a newer version of the same processor—the 4460 is cheaper than the 3350p right now anyway. You also get a better, more expensive ATX motherboard (newer socket, so you can upgrade to Broadwell later), a nicer ATX case, and the Asus version of the GPU which comes with a year extra of warranty. As for gaming performance—or any performance for that matter—it stays basically the same.

Yeah, my bad. Those prices were before tax, so with tax added, it's closer to $2.00. The price is fine with me, but what you said really stuck with me: that gaming and overall performance stay the same. So, even without adding extra $267, we're getting almost the exact same thing.

Would it be worth spending those extra $267 on more RAM or something else to bump up the gaming performance?

Anyway, I have to buy this from the same vendor who gave me a quote five months ago, so I'm not looking to hunt down the absolute cheapest shop out there.

I need a PC for my nephew to play new games, but I can't go over $1667. I see people on here saying pre-built setups aren't great, but I really don't have the time to hunt down parts and build it myself. I don't want to waste money on something bad. Since this is a gift from my company, I definitely need an official receipt for the reimbursement...
Any suggestions on where or how to go about this?

I actually went ahead and ordered based on one of your recommendations. I'm just starting the buying process now. In the meantime, my budget bumped up by about $267, so I told the guys at the shop to put that extra cash toward something that would actually boost performance.

Question:

Below are the old and new quotes. Could you let me know if they actually improved the machine for $267, or if they just swapped things out for more expensive versions of the same stuff? Where do you think it's best to spend that extra $267?

It all comes down to one simple question: why is it such a massive deal to just step away or miss someone without everyone making it a huge drama? I don't get where this constant need for "stop, thief!" comes from. I guess I'm just playing vigilante now. Not sure if that's a good thing.Teaching people how to drive properly... just to bring some order to the entire universe?

Just let someone go and move on with your life. 🙂.

You've got a point. It really just comes down to one simple question: why is it so hard for people to respect the rules? I’d love to see how you'd react if some guy walked right into a Starbucks and cut to the front of the line just because he was in a rush.
If you're going to be rude and break the law, at least have the decency not to get mad at the people actually following the rules.
I try to stay in the left lane, but sometimes it’s impossible to satisfy the people who drive like they're in a demolition derby. It happened to me on the interstate the other day—I moved into the left lane at over 80 mph to make room for someone merging, and this idiot in a tuned-up car doing nearly 130 mph tailgated me instantly and started flashing his high beams. Once I finally cleared the guy who was merging, this lunatic swerved into the right lane to pass me, cut me off within three feet, and tapped his brakes. If I had been some distracted driver and slammed my brakes, I could have totaled myself, my wife, and our three kids, and he probably wouldn't have even realized what he did. If he’d just misjudged the pass and hit me instead, we wouldn't be having this conversation...
Yeah, honestly, you've gotta stay cool and just walk away from people like that. Playing vigilante is just a losing game.
You’ve gotta stay chill, even when people are acting like geniuses—you know, those drivers who wait until the absolute last second to merge from a turning lane into straight traffic while everything is backed up. And you have to keep your cool even when someone says something completely unhinged or aggressive to you.

Thanks
I barely understand any of this... but I think I'll just go with the one from $1675

Hi there
I'm looking for a PC for my nephew so he can play the latest games, but I need to stay under $1667. I've seen people on here saying to avoid pre-built setups, but honestly, I just don't have the time to pick out individual parts and assemble it myself. I don't want to end up wasting money on something subpar. Since this is a business expense, I really need to make sure I get a proper receipt for the tax write-off...
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look for or where to buy?
