I'm actually really interested in Flux by Belew, but I've never owned an iPhone so I haven't tried it. :D

Something similar was that Oscilab app—it was great, but then it just vanished from the Google Play Store. 🙂
Then I discovered Sun Vox. 👍

For kids or relatives, I'll fire up Nodebeat—cool concept and solid output. 😁

Like finishing my second planet. :D

Which one? This Björk thing? 😁

Look... if you have a Vive VR headset... preferably a newer model... you get a clear look at what the next musical (and general artistic) medium might look like in about 10 years. 🎉

Thanks for the Sun Vox recommendation... might give that a shot too.

Edit: In my opinion, any developer who chooses to stick exclusively to the Apple App Store is a total fascist. 😁
As for us Android users—we get nothing. 😁
Not to mention this Belew guy is a prog gentleman.
And we all know that prog musicians, by their very nature, are often fascists themselves.
It all fits perfectly into a mad puzzle... pure horror. 😁

Tom Waits - Grapefruit Moon EDIT

edit:
I'm planning to invest. 😁 Just dropped X bucks into the Enot android app. 😁 Bloom 10 Worlds.
I just can't make up my mind. I'm not exactly rolling in it, so I'm not about to just throw ten bucks at some Enote. 😁
I’m just sitting here waiting for Jean-Michel Jarre to port his EoN over to Android! 😒
I’m going to make it happen. End of story. There’s no room for poverty here. Doing what needs to be done isn't hard. 🙂

As a total geek, I’d love to experience that new Bjork u VR album within a VR environment. Ideally on some next-gen Vive.

The Zero Theorem in Movies ·
Watched it.
This movie is shockingly bad, especially considering it comes from Gilliam, the guy who gave us masterpieces like 12 Monkeys, Brazil, or Fisher King.

The sheer pretentiousness here reminds me of Darren Aronofsky's Fountain.
Except with Fountain, there’s actually substance buried under the weirdness; it’s ambitious and actually hits those mystical notes effectively...😁

But with The Zero Theorem, I don't see any ambition at all... just pretension and boredom. It feels like Gilliam was just bored out of his mind and thought, "Whatever, let's just film this nonsense." 😵

edit: Around 2010, basically every film from the legendary directors started feeling like mediocre filler at best, or more often, absolute garbage like this...
😕

If there's nothing left to say or make, then what's the point? Just stop. Let the cameras go silent. Everything has been said; let it all just end... 😁
It's better than just churning out mindless crap and wasting everyone's time with trash like this. 😒

I expect high-level debate, which naturally demands applause and respect for top-tier contributors like myself... 🙂

☕

which also means making the mods uncomfortable when someone of my caliber 😁 shows up on their threads... leading them to actively suppress quality posts and let trolls tear apart regular users just to shut down meaningful discussion.
It’s a classic case of jealousy leading straight to social ostracism.

Pathetic.

Your attitude and writing style have always been incredibly bizarre. Most people would just call your posts trolling, flame wars, or plain old playing dumb.
You aren't objective at all, especially when discussing the tech industry—which is basically what most of your posts boil down to. Reading your descriptions, you make it sound like you're describing Auschwitz rather than an American IT professional's workplace. You paint the entire industry as a massive victim of some imaginary persecution targeting you.
It isn't just me; plenty of other users here have noticed that you clearly went through some kind of work trauma, and now you're just venting those frustrations through your posts.
And while I agree that nobody should tolerate being insulted or belittled by other users, your specific way of expressing yourself is exactly what attracts that kind of toxic feedback, so I'm not surprised one bit.
I asked you to tone it down because this isn't a constructive way to have a discussion.

And what exactly did you just explain?

I don't understand your post at all in the context of the basic rules of communication on this American forum. 😕

As for my writing style, if we're going there, there have been at least 10, maybe 20 users on that specific thread alone (not counting the hundreds of others across this entire site) who explicitly or implicitly praise and value my posts. ☕
And the people who actually like how I write are mostly the top-tier contributors on this whole damn American forum, like JPK and many others...

The ones who don't necessarily praise me usually just engage in a solid debate over my views—which is the whole point of a forum. It shouldn't be a giant circle jerk where everyone just agrees so they don't have to deal with actual input. It's not like everyone is a degenerate flamewarmer looking to derail discussions like a few of those other users.

When has anyone even noticed one of your posts? How am I a negative presence then?
What are you even talking about, my dear friend?

edit:
Here is an example of you writing baseless nonsense about me, which is why you shouldn't be on the moderation team...

Saying that my descriptions sound like I'm describing Auschwitz instead of the IT sector isn't some invention or "trolling" on my part. It's identical to the experiences shared by a mountain of engineer users in that thread, and in other threads regarding the economy or career paths.
Your attempt to manufacture a "Grace Jones86 case" where I'm supposedly trolling about bad experiences is disgusting and immature. Truly childish and miles away from having any profile for a moderator or anything else...
You're fabricating this because I write a lot and I write hard. Either you have a problem because you don't get it (which is pathetic), or because you can't just write high-quality content on this forum due to censorship (which is even more pathetic).

Gerald Chavez7 said:It’s incredibly simple to read your entire body of work regarding STEM—you showed up, bragged about everything constantly for weeks, post after post. Then you revived this thread a year later with this post and started...

Even in that constant bragging, you rarely pose an actual interesting question, so I'll give you the floor.

But I don't get how someone so certain of their own genius has to constantly beg other users for protection. You're even accusing people of trolling when they're just acting normally and refusing to swallow your "I'm a genius and everyone else is just a geek loser" mantra...

Regarding the flame wars, I have issued warnings several times and harsher sanctions will follow if this continues...

I don't agree with one single word of this "explanation" of yours...

When I revived that thread with that post, it was absolutely legitimate. There isn't a single trace of "bragging about everything" in any of my writing there... 🙄
I was writing about the insane, degrading way the IT workforce is being treated. How is that unnecessary "bragging"?!?!?!? 🙄

Honestly... you don't resonate as a person or even as a moderator—not even in a politically correct sense, but because you are completely devoid of interest in the topic or understanding it. ☕

I still can't believe you actually wrote—"how someone so certain of their own genius has to constantly beg other users for protection"

What on earth is that supposed to mean?!?

Does this forum have rules? If it does, shouldn't those rules apply to all users equally, rather than letting those "certain of their own genius" 🙄 be subjected to senseless flaming by trolls just because you enjoy seeing that happen to users "like me"...
I seriously can't believe what I'm reading.

Et cetera...

A catastrophic "explanation."

I would demand a statement from the supermods or whoever... but there's no point. It's embarrassing to be posting in the same space as people who justify harassing users (especially that troll Deadpool who trolls everyone there) and behaving outside the rules...
Economy subforum is getting trashed in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Third edit, because I have an absolute mountain of things to say... 😁

Your posts were barely more coherent than Deadpool's... and he’s an obvious troll who just launches insane flame wars at me (and other users randomly without any intention of actually contributing to the discussion), intentionally derailing the thread, which the mods clearly love... 🙄

And that post where I finally snapped at you? That was because you went ad hominem again 🙄 with your trash trolling and assumptions about who I know or who I should be talking to.
That has nothing to do with the damn topic.

etc...

You're messing with me, man, and the moderation is messing with everyone else on this damn site too. 😉

edit: This kind of "moderation" has been happening since Anderlon first took this place live about 20 years ago... so, not at all.
The only thing they seem capable of is locking threads. A stellar moderation team, as usual. 🤣

About 50 high-quality users who could actually write five related sentences—or even more—stopped posting a long time ago. I'm still dragging myself through this forum because I think I'm a genius 😁 and because I naively believe the mods might recognize that... or that they're capable of doing anything at all. ☕

Gregory Ward said:Besides, the author of posts like this always complains when others flame them or go off-topic.

Here are a few posts from the first two pages of the thread. I won't bother explaining further because these incoherent outbursts mean nothing. There are 170 total; the sample is more than representative enough.

The fact that you can't understand or appreciate how I educated the vulgar masses on the division of labor—white collar, blue collar, and pink collar—or how I demonstrated what society thinks about "the zone" (and what a zone actually is, the flow), or the issues involved in working with engineers if you don't fit their personality type (that bit about Asperger's or general simpletons) is your own damn problem.

But it shouldn't be an issue for the site administration. They should be reading with some prior knowledge... which is presumably why they work these side gigs on forums... ☕

In this middle-of-the-road post, for instance, I am complaining about the incredibly pathetic level of debate where people have nothing but the tools to attack the participant instead of the actual subject matter.

Again, none of this matters if a person is literate... which is a massive question mark here.

And what should the moderators be defending? People who actually contribute content, not people who show up just to take cheap shots at the writer.

The moderation doesn't do that. They are extremely weak and incompetent. It shows exactly what Reddit thinks (which is nothing) about the people providing any actual substance...
(Flaming other users isn't content, though they clearly fail to grasp that.)

edit:
Why didn't you attack the actual content of these quoted posts? I would have gladly welcomed you attacking what I write. If you had, maybe I would have learned something from you.
But since you are utterly incapable of engaging with any actual content or challenging these posts, there is absolutely nothing worth reading or learning from you... which is obviously the ideal standard for the moderation on Reddit.☕

On the STEM economy thread, these weirdos Deadpool and Gregory Ward have spent months doing nothing but posting flame wars and ad hominem attacks directed at me.
The moderators haven't lifted a finger.

They’re just straight-up trolling me and the rest of the users. They never once manage to drop a coherent, on-topic post.

Zero response from management.

What’s the move here? Should I check in on Anderlon’s health, or maybe file a complaint with the local water board?
What is even happening?? ☕

Maybe I should just stop posting on Reddit altogether?

If I stop contributing to the economy section or the site in general, when will this place finally see some actual on-topic, well-written, original content?
Is that what we want? 😁
Is that what the water board wants?

The content on this site is garbage, and most users are basically bots...
Who’s actually going to read this stuff; why force people who actually put effort into creating content and hits to stay on this forum?
Can money actually buy happiness? in Psychology ·
It isn't about luck.

It’s an issue of existence.

A certain level of stability provides you with that existence.
If that foundation isn't guaranteed—if your very survival depends solely on whether you succeed or fail—then there is no room for "happiness," regardless of how much money you make.

You can't claim to be happy when every single wrong move could send your entire life into an absolute abyss.

Compared to the story this user linked, those amounts are pocket change. It's like Larry Page, Larry Ellison, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Jack Ma, Warren Buffett, and John D. Rockefeller are all partying on a private island together, just burning through billions for fun.... 😁 😵

Because this guy was describing the absolute bottom of the barrel.
Absolute zero. 😁

I have never once had my paycheck delayed, even at the most mediocre companies, let alone missed a payment entirely.
Those situations are straight-up nightmares... 😵

Sam Murphy said:I can't help but feel a bit skeptical about all these claims regarding steam suffocation... I mean, nobody comes on here just to brag about making massive salaries.

You have nothing to doubt.
The average salary in IBM is $2733. Something like that.

Let's just say experienced people—if they actually know their stuff and put in the work—regularly pull in 10 $0.00. That's been the reality for the last 20 years.

And if someone happens to climb the ladder and becomes a manager of anything at all, they make significantly more.

Sam Murphy said:Unless you're working in some government agency, you haven't seen anything yet—there are stories out there that make this look like a walk in the park.

I am extremely far from being in government service, both now and before.

But look... I've had bad work experiences... but everything described here is seen through the lens of those bad experiences. What this guy described is grotesque. Bizarrely bad life and bizarrely bad business experiences.
Especially since he’s even ten years older than me.

And then acting like some kind of elite programmer...

For God's sake... at the start of the 2000s, people were walking straight from dog-walking jobs into high-end IBM positions at top-tier firms.

For every one story like his, you have 1,000 stories of people from his generation drowning in money within tech...
people who were making serious cash according to the papers, for example.
people who worked in sales everywhere for great money.
and graphic designers who earned plenty.

You have an entire nation of people somehow making a living. And then you have a story like this from someone who was completely steamrolled.
I'm not surprised, especially if he wasn't more careful about choosing companies.
I know better than anyone that whether it's the biggest American corporations, fancy foreign firms, or major banks... everyone is a total nightmare as an employer.
But what this guy is describing is worse than North Korea. 😵

This sounds incredibly depressing, broken, and twisted. It’s such a heavy story it’s almost hard to believe it's real.
I hope this is just trolling.

Because based on that logic, I'm clearly some spoiled version of Carnegie or Vanderbilt... 😁
The real question is, who isn't Carnegie according to this narrative?😁
Why are the youth leaving? in Economy ·
stormylynx4 said:You're not an idiot. I was just wondering why you picked economics. Honestly, the only way that makes sense is if you were naive enough to think that degree would actually land you a job in a country where the economy is basically flatlining.

Stop attacking the guy.🍿

Economics isn't a bad choice.
I know plenty of economists just a few years older than him who have solid careers. Sure, a good chunk of them got in through connections, but whatever... at least it’s about knowing the right people rather than political favors.

I also know some older guys who started working around 2000... they ended up as brand managers for major corporations with $5000 salaries. Those were the glory days. 🐔

There are tons of decent jobs with good pay in Chicago.
You just have to keep grinding. If you don't have $2,000 or $3,000 saved up for trips around Chicago within a year, then you're screwed. How are you even supposed to survive?
