That’s exactly why you’ve alienated the Washington, D.C. crowd because, believe it or not, they don't vibe with your views, which seem to get more extreme by the day. The stands used to be packed with everyone feeling welcome—punks, rockers, skins, even the preppy types... but nowadays, if you have even a slightly different perspective? Get lost. And then you wonder why they won't join your ranks.
To build on that, I’ll give you an example of how regular fans—the kind who just show up for the matches every now and then (which includes me)
a few years back, we were over in Switzerland. I can't quite remember if it was a friendly or some other type of exhibition, but honestly, it doesn't matter.
Before the match, I hung out near this restaurant where the supporters were gathering, and there was a huge crowd of casuals like myself. There were UV guys there, and I spotted a few Boys near the stadium too; Torca was represented, and if I recall correctly, some Vinkovci residents were there as well.
Right outside the stadium, I actually watched a guy from UV hand some cash to a couple of the Boys to buy drinks. It was purely a gesture; the guy clearly had money to burn and just wanted to treat them, so they happily accepted (the beers were about 10 bucks each).
Once we got into the stadium, we were split between two stands. I won't name names, but one group of the Boys was with us, while another group was on the stand right next to us.
For reasons I still can't wrap my head around (apparently, someone didn't want to move a UV banner away from the railing), that second group signaled to our side to absolutely tear into that same guy who had just been so generous.
The very same guy he had just bought drinks for.
I totally get what the hardcore supporter scene thinks of UV, but most of the UV guys traveling from abroad have no clue what the underlying tension is even about; they're just there to support the national team, but hey, that's how it goes.
