Used PC builds: What are they worth? in Desktops ·
darkowl72 said:Damn... looks like it’s actually Socket 939 and DDR1 after all... honestly, nobody is going to touch that. It’s a dead platform. You can't even find a decent dual-core upgrade for it anymore. If you stripped out the monitor and the 640GB drive and just left a single stick of RAM, maybe someone might grab it for a few bucks just to use as a dedicated torrent machine...

As for the memory, you mentioned 3.5GB up top, which probably means you've got four 1GB sticks in there. But if it really is DDR1 like you said down below... well, those 1GB sticks might actually be worth something since they're pretty rare. I don't know the exact market value, but if that's the case, I'd suggest checking eBay for some recent sold listings to get an idea...

You’ve actually got me curious with that second part about the 1GB DDR1 sticks. If I remember correctly, I think I have one of those 1GB DDR1 modules sitting around somewhere. Does that stuff actually hold any value? And if it does, do you have any clue roughly how much? I feel like you might know more about this than I do.🙂

I mean, I get it—the payouts aren't exactly huge, but honestly, I don't really need anything more than that.
Do you actually have a better suggestion in mind, or should I just pick one of these two?😁
New keyboard and mouse setup in Computer Peripherals ·
Hey everyone, I’m looking for some expert advice here since I definitely don't know as much about this stuff as some of you probably do.
I'm planning on picking up a new keyboard and mouse, ideally as a bundle.
I've got about $100(around $17) to spend.
The main thing is that I really need them to have some kind of backlight.
I've already scouted out a couple of combos, so if you could weigh in on which of these two is the better bet—or if you have your own suggestions for something better—that would be awesome.
Thanks a ton for any help you can give.🙏

Budget PC build under $750? in Desktops ·
Hey everyone, like the title says, I'm looking for a solid build for under $1667.
The plan is to use it for gaming—nothing too crazy, since I'm on a pretty tight budget and can't really swing much more than that
An SSD would be great if we can fit it in, but it’s not a dealbreaker, and I don't need an HDD larger than 1TB.
Thanks a million for any help you guys can give me.👍
Also, quick side question: What do you all think about this assembly? Does everything look properly balanced and compatible, or should I probably steer clear of it?
🙏

Aha, okay, thanks for the help... I guess it’s pretty clear now that I'm not actually getting any help here, just some brand-new problems instead.👍

Do you really think I should just bite the bullet and overhaul everything?
Or would it be smarter to just scrape together enough cash to build a whole new rig from scratch... maybe order everything separately and piece it together bit by bit??
But honestly, while I'm working toward that, I'd love to find a way to give my current setup a little boost in the meantime, though I'm not entirely sure how. Should I just grab some more RAM?🤔

Timothy Kim60 said:Right off the bat, I'd say none of that is worth it. It really isn't worth sinking any money into such an ancient platform.

aha, so that's how it is... I guess I'll just hold off on using it until I can get my hands on something better.😵
Thanks for the heads up.

So, I managed to track down just the part number for the board: FRU PN 73P0595, but for some reason, I can't find anything on the Dell support site about it.🤔

darkowl72 said:That isn't actually the motherboard model number; it’s just the revision or version code. You're looking for something more like "BC875PLG," which should be printed somewhere directly on the board itself. Usually, you can find it hanging out near the center, maybe around the CPU socket or tucked near the RAM slots.

Once you finally track down that exact model number, you can just head over to the Dell or IBM support sites. If you dig through their archives—specifically looking under the End of Life or discontinued products section—you should be able to find the motherboard manuals or something along those lines. It’s usually tucked away in there somewhere, I guess.

I stumbled upon this manual online today—it’s a bit of a deep dive, but I thought some of you might find it useful. It’s essentially a technical guide for managing certain systems, though it feels a little dated depending on what hardware you're running. I guess if you're still tinkering with older setups, there might be some nuggets in here, but for most modern builds, it's probably more of a curiosity than a necessity. Just a heads-up for anyone looking for specific configuration steps.

Well, I guess it’s all laid out right here for you... everything is documented.

aha, thanks so much for the help! I think I'll head off and dive into some research on this myself. If I hit a wall or get stuck, I'll definitely reach out for some backup.👍

Hey everyone, I could really use a little bit of help regarding this Windows XP motherboard.
Mainly, I’m trying to figure out what the absolute ceiling is for a build on this board—like, what's the max configuration I can actually squeeze out of it?
I guess I’m still pretty much a novice when it comes to the whole PC world; I’ve been doing some digging online, but honestly, I’m still struggling to wrap my head around half of the terminology.
Here is what I'm running at the moment: 1) CPU: Intel Pentium 4
2) GPU: AMD Radeon 9600 Pro
3) RAM: 2GB DDR 400MHz
...
So, basically, I want to know how much RAM I can pack in there, what the beefiest graphics card would be, the best processor, etc., specifically for this motherboard (all I really know is that it's called Windows XP, and if that's not enough info, I’m sorry, I really don't know anything else beyond that🤔).
Thanks so much for any help you can give, I'd really appreciate it.🙏
