Zoom keeps disconnecting after a few minutes in IT Support ·

I honestly have no idea why they’d even suspect me

Try resetting the MAC address on your network card.
That’s another way Microsoft tracks usage.
There are plenty of tools online to handle that...

Check your BIOS settings—is there an option for "Legacy USB" or something similar?

What actually happens when you hit Ctrl + Shift + del on your keyboard and select the option to clear your browsing history?
Zoom keeps disconnecting after a few minutes in IT Support ·
Is this happening to just one or two specific users, or is it hitting everyone during every single connection attempt?
How do I clear out my Gmail inbox? in IT Support ·

Just be careful with IMAP. If you're only syncing headers instead of full emails, deleting them from Gmail means they're gone locally too. Gone. Forever.

Do you mean you use "Outlook" as an app (from the Microsoft Office suite), or do you just have an email address like "nestonesto@outlook.com"?

If you're using the Outlook desktop app, you can actually manage both outlook.com and gmail.com accounts right from there:

Can someone break this down for a buddy of mine? He’s... let's just say he's a little slow on the uptake:

May 3, 2019. "Statute of limitations applies" (effective June 12, 2019).

How to check character count in Microsoft Word? in IT Support ·

Check under the Tools menu --> Word count.
(I don't have Microsoft Word 2003 on hand right now, so I can't double-check)

Michelle Bennett5 said:Back in the day, operating systems would actually scan every single piece of hardware during bootup just to see what was installed, which meant waiting forever…

Then they finally had the bright idea to just save that configuration after the first scan. Now, they just use that saved profile every time you turn the computer on, assuming you haven't gone out and swapped your motherboard or something

Which, honestly, was a pretty smart move. I mean, how often does someone actually swap out their motherboard or plug in a new graphics card or some random PCI card? It’s incredibly rare. There’s really no reason to waste time scanning everything every single time. Of course, the OS still needs to be smart enough to realize if the hardware doesn't match the old config so it can trigger a new scan without making things a total mess

What I'm getting at is that there is massive room for optimization during the boot process. Like, seriously, spending a millisecond to initialize a basic video driver isn't going to break the bank or anything

There was a lot of chaos before we had modern software and Windows 10.

But I honestly don't get how there's absolutely *nothing* on the screen?

First, the PC should show the BIOS info and the menu, then even Windows 10 usually shows little boxes and a spinning loading icon while the OS boots up. Is this happening on multiple machines or just one?
How to stop spam emails? in IT Support ·
Melissa Nguyen2 said:So, I signed up for this one site—total mistake, looking back—and now my inbox is getting absolutely hammered with like a hundred spam messages every single day. It’s relentless. There's actually an "unsubscribe" option, which sounds great on paper, right? Well, I've clicked it ten times already, but the flood just keeps coming like it's nothing. Is there any way to actually report this kind of thing to someone, or am I just stuck in this digital purgatory?

Well, you basically just told them your email address is active.

[1] Try this. It won't fix everything overnight, but you might see fewer emails popping up in a week or two.

Just make sure to update your address and info accordingly.

[2] This depends on where your mail is hosted. But—try creating a Gmail account and letting Gmail fetch your messages (usually via POP3). Gmail’s spam filters are top-tier; they'll scrub the junk right out.
You can either (a) just stick to using Gmail (you can still send from your old address) or (b) set Gmail up to forward everything to a third address.
