I was thinking about this today while watching a video of some new tech being tested on public streets. It feels like we're constantly told to "embrace the future," but there's a massive difference between a cool gadget and something that actually shares the road with families and pedestrians.
It seems like every time a major company pushes a new frontier, the first thing that gets sacrificed is the human oversight required to keep things from going off the rails. We've seen this pattern before—move fast, break things, and then let the legal department deal with the fallout once something inevitably goes wrong. It's easy to call it "progress" when you're looking at a sleek interface, but it’s a much harder sell when you consider the people who are actually left to manage the chaos behind the scenes.
I honestly worry that we are letting companies bypass standard safety protocols just because they have a catchy marketing slogan. If the people tasked with monitoring these systems are being stretched too thin to actually do their jobs, is it even "autonomous" at that point, or is it just a liability waiting to happen?
Do you think we need much stricter regulations on how these automated systems are supervised, or is the current "wait and see" approach just part of the cost of new tech?
Lawrence Murphy8 said:We're getting ready for a cochlear implant surgery. Any experiences, results, expectations, or recovery tips? Anything helps.
First off, how old is the kid? I guess the general rule is that the younger they are, the faster they pick up speech. My daughter was three when she got her implant, and now she’s 16. She’s doing great with her speech—honestly, unless you know she’s deaf, you probably wouldn't even notice. But just a heads-up, the surgery isn't the finish line. You've got daily rehab ahead of you, and it's not just at the clinic (like at a place like SUVAAG)—you really have to work on it at home constantly. It starts with learning to recognize sounds, then moving to understanding them, and finally actual speech. There might be days where you feel totally discouraged and feel like things aren't clicking, but from my own experience as a parent, please don't give up. Recovery is pretty quick; after a short hospital stay, you'll need about a month for everything to heal before the first fitting to adjust the processor. Things move a little slow at first, but you just have to stick with it. Wishing you guys the best of luck and a smooth recovery!! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out! 🙂🙂
Looking for a new printer...
I used to have an HP All in One 5610, and honestly, I wasn't exactly thrilled with how things turned out... Whenever I tried to print photos in a document, they’d come out super washed out, which was pretty annoying. Plus, the ink was pricey, even the generic stuff—don't even get me started on the official cartridges.
Does anyone have recommendations for a solid printer where the original ink won't break the bank?
Any advice helps!
Thanks

Can anyone walk me through what that search actually looks like???
Thanks
Hey Nathan Castillo8, I was driving down that road you mentioned the other day—you know, near the construction zone—and it looked like they put down some extra gravel along the shoulder. It seems like if things get a little crazy or traffic picks up, you’d actually have enough room to pull over to the side if you needed to! I can't tell if I'm just seeing things or if my desperate need to go for a bike ride is making me hyper-focused, but honestly, I’m always a little nervous about cars when I'm out on my bike. :-(
How long is the drive to Dugav?
Hey, Nathan Castillo8, that road feels way busier to me than the one by mlak !! I'm honestly a little worried someone might plow right into me :-(
It’d probably be best if they just connected that stretch by the road from ExxonMobil to the Buzin !!! business park.
So, quick question for anyone who commutes from the suburbs into the city... 1. If I drive out toward the outskirts, hit the main highway, and then have to cut through that industrial area near the ExxonMobil plant to get into the business district—is that stretch actually dangerous? Like, is the traffic super heavy? I’m honestly kind of hesitating about making that drive just because of that specific part. It makes me a little nervous, I guess... Could you guys share some of your experiences?🙂
My kid’s been using an artificial cochlea for almost nine years now! If you guys need any advice or just want to chat about it, feel free to ask!
So, I'm on the hunt for a new GP—basically just a solid family doctor. Our old one finally retired, and they replaced her with this total ice queen, and I mean that literally (ugh, hate even saying it). I don't really go to the doctor much, but lately, I've been totally ignoring certain health issues just because I can't stand the thought of sitting in her office. So, if anyone has any leads on a good doctor in the suburbs or over in New York City, please, PLEASE let me know!
Thanks!!!
I mean, you can definitely find a great private eye clinic in the Chicago area that won't look down on a cheapskate like me
and won't judge my budget too hard!!! I just really don't want to have to take out a massive loan just to get my teeth fixed.
So, I've been dealing with this crazy heartburn for about a week now, and honestly, it feels like everything is just bubbling up in my throat! I haven't really dealt with anything like this before. I'm not totally sure if it's something I ate, maybe just stress, or if my stomach is just acting up. Has anyone else gone through this?
