lonerider10 said:So, you're heading to work? Man, if that’s the case, then you're definitely picking some seriously weird routes just to get to the office. 😁

There’s some construction going on nearby, so I figured I’d head over to see how things were moving along... honestly, it just made me start reminiscing about the old days when I used to pass by Central Park every single day. I remember looking for my buddy so we could grab a quick coffee before the shift started, but he was always tied up, so I’d just head back to my small town, grab a cup there, and then finally get myself to work. 😁

Hit the road for work this morning 28 miles 🙂

I wouldn't say I've been blessed with perfect luck,
1. So, one time I’m riding along this gravel path through some thick woods outside of Columbus, just cruising along on the dirt road. I spot this woman standing in her yard, maybe 30 or 40 yards to my left, so I just keep heading down the trail... then suddenly, out of nowhere, I hear this lady screaming her head off behind me. I look back and—holy crap—this massive sheepdog is charging straight out of her yard right at my back. Honestly, I didn't even care about the gravel or how wiped out I was from the ride... I was pushing 40, too, so I just kept going, and after maybe a hundred yards or so, the dog finally gave up the chase.
2. Then there was this other time, just staring into the dense trees in some rural part of Ohio, totally empty everywhere. I glance down at my speedometer, look back up, and—boom—there’s a deer standing dead center in the road, maybe 30 feet ahead of me. I slammed on the brakes just in time, and the thing bolted into the brush.

Come on, just put it out there if it’s not like some big secret or anything

Man, right now it’s just total garbage... if the roads are wet... whatever... I'll just ride 6.2 miles/h and I won't end up getting sprayed all over my legs... if it starts snowing... I can probably still pull 15-20 mph on my current tires... easy, no big deal...
Every single morning, you see people around 50 or 60 years old out riding their bikes... umbrella in hand 6.2 miles/h, heading to the market, the grocery store, wherever...

So, I rode my bike to work today. Pure bliss, right? Except, you know, there’s about 15-20 inches of snow dumping down like crazy, and apparently, all the pedestrians think they own the damn road, so they're just staring me down like I'm the problem. 🙂

Karen Thomas25 said:So, does anyone actually have experience riding a bike in a skirt? Like, is that even doable or am I just asking for trouble? I don't exactly have a changing room at my office, and honestly, even if I did, I really wouldn't feel like swapping out into something else anyway.

Jeffrey Sullivan4 said:I mean, honestly, it’s totally doable. If you just throw on some fenders with side guards and a chain guard, you're pretty much set—even if you're rocking a formal evening dress or something. It really is that simple. 😉

I mean, my mind went straight to a skirt, so I honestly have no clue what you're even talking about. Like, what kind of chain guards? What mesh mudguards???
I mean, honestly... just pull over under a Jeep or something, strip off, and then you can just change once you actually get to the office. 🙂
And then again... maybe they actually mean dresses... like full-on floor-length skirts and stuff like that...

Whatever, it’s all just layers, man... I’ve got an undershirt, a tee, then a jacket, you know... like a heavy winter coat... should be just warm enough to get me to work... assuming I don't go absolutely ham on the pedals or anything...
1.6 milesYeah, it works.

Edward Turner27... I'm debating whether to just hoof it on foot for maybe 20 minutes or just hop on my bike and be there in like 5.

Edward Turner27 said:In my case, it’s gonna be The Sunday Times in about 6 months... so what would be the most optimal route..?

Personally, I'd try this route..
heading out through the rural areas up to I-75 and then just floor it toward the shopping mall, take the lower road down to the interstate and then gaaaaas all the way to the suburbs... definitely the fastest way... true, and maybe the most dangerous too...

The only thing is you'll have a "little" more traffic 🙂, but since you'll probably be heading out pretty early, I don't think you'll hit the same mess I did when I was driving from downtown toward the mall several times (via I-75, obviously), so I didn't roll into the mall area until just before 7:30.

Or, if you're coming off the highway near the industrial district or wherever, head toward the outskirts and then cut right onto the coastal road toward the suburbs.

Anyway, let me log my own little trip... I biked to work that day it started snowing... just got back home today... it was a quick 5-minute ride 😢

Jeffrey Garcia11: Look, your route isn't actually bad, assuming you aren't terrified of cars, have enough leg strength, and don't mind dodging the cops since you're technically breaking road rules. If I were you, I’d take a slightly longer path than going from Antunović down through Horvatska—maybe hit that other street and then cut left toward Jarun. You could do half of Jarun on Jarunska and then head for the pedestrian bridge. There isn't much traffic, no crazy stoplights, and the scenery is way better.

The real question is whether you want to be surrounded by more cars or fewer.
One way is to go through Kajzerica toward Central Park, then follow the route past the German district over toward Buzin, crossing the bridge on the left side to get into Buzin. This route pretty much has bike lanes everywhere, except for that stretch through Kajzerica.

The other option is taking the pedestrian path by the river, hitting Remetinec, then cutting along Old Highway before turning into Buzin. This one has a bike lane all the way up to Remetinec, but after that, you're stuck on the main road where traffic gets pretty heavy.

I think the drive from Jankomir to Velikogoricka was about 17 miles yeah, like an hour of solid driving.

So, I picked this stuff up about two months ago. A buddy of mine was hauling it in his car, and when he hit the checkpoint, the Customs agent started grilling him about what he was carrying. He just played it cool and told them it was for a friend—just some dietary supplements, you know? Since he didn't really act like he knew what they were, they didn't think much of it. He showed them a receipt for maybe $30 and they just let him slide.

Right now I'm stuck working in my company's warehouse... or maybe just in the office right next to it this Saturday 🙂
btw... yesterday was absolute hell around 4:00 PM on the drive home, but man, I can't even imagine what today at 1:00 PM is gonna be like

Same deal over here. If I don't have other stuff piling up on my plate or if the clock isn't working against me, I’m out on my bike.

Is it just me, or is nobody actually biking to work?
:=)

I’m currently finishing up my 1865 miles at the end of February.
I’m really hoping things pick up soon, you know? Like, I'm aiming to be out on my bike commuting to the office every single day.

analogrider3: glad I'm not the only one heading toward Old Town... 🙂

Bike2Work is still going... I've ridden 1243 miles just for work in the last 2.5 months alone.

So, the bike2work thing is still going on, but today was actually kind of a big deal because I finally managed to hit my max speed on flat ground, topping out at over 37 miles/h—specifically 39 miles/h. I mean, obviously I was tucked right behind a semi-truck, but hey, on a flat stretch, 🙂

Everything's squared away. I'm heading back to the grind tomorrow and the day after.
We'll just have to see how the weather holds up next week, I guess.
But this week? I'm definitely hitting the road 622 miles on my new bike 🙂
Commuting to work by bike in Cycling ·
Yeah, totally.
It feels like there are more and more cyclists clogging up the streets every single day.
Seriously, even just yesterday I saw entire packs of them riding in formation.

I’ve actually started recognizing some of their faces at this point, since we end up passing each other in almost the exact same spot every damn morning.
