Aaron Gray said:We struggled through the first half, playing a suffocating 6-0 defense and went into the break trailing. In the second half, we switched to a 5-1 setup, managed to pull ahead by four, and luckily held on until the whistle.
One wonders if Coach Goluza has learned anything at all.
Or perhaps their side has a coach who actually watches film now and then. They might even adjust their tactics accordingly...
Let him talk. That same national team knocked Manhattan out in just two qualifying matches. Currently, Russia is sitting right ahead of them in the standings. Only someone who doesn't understand handball—or perhaps harbors some strange grudge against our neighbors—could possibly write something like this.
It might finally be time for Poland 22:24 to knock us out of the tournament. They seem to be playing with a certain freedom, as if they have nothing to lose and no heavy expectations weighing them down. Meanwhile, we appear to be on a downward slide, struggling with a subpar goalkeeper and seeing absolutely nothing from Duvnjak. There is little point in overanalyzing this further:
The French will likely face a more rigorous training session ahead of the quarterfinals. I had assumed the Canadian squad held the upper hand, but today’s matchup appears to be a true toss-up.
Did you catch last night's tactics? We ought to simply replicate them. Domagoj Duvnjak carries the load in the first half while the two wingers refuse to take shots. If Dušan tightens the defense, then the Spear and Bićko utilize their sheer power and pace to break through their lines.
In all seriousness, though, what Vori mentioned at the start of the second half is precisely what secured our win. Rapid ball movement to the wings—Domagoj Štrlek and Horvat have been phenomenal this tournament. Eventually, the middle will open up as well.
It is quite rewarding to read through this thread from the beginning, visualizing the game alongside the commentary. I suggest you try it if you haven't already. 😁
It is somewhat reassuring that, based on the final statements from Goluza and Bicko, it appears we actually possessed a cohesive strategy. 🙂
I find myself pleased that Denmark are the favorites; it allows us to play without undue pressure and see where the chips fall. If nothing else, the Spaniards aren't particularly formidable, so another bronze medal might just be within our reach. 😁
And who exactly is supposed to step in then? Josip Valčić? The man managed to turn our +9 lead into a +4 in just a few minutes yesterday. A real tactical genius, isn't he? 🤣
Today looks grim, truly difficult. Our offensive flow is agonizingly slow, and when our one-on-one plays fail, we stall. If the keeper makes even two or three saves, we lose our rhythm entirely.
If the offense finds the pace they showed during those first 20 minutes against France, we’ll cruise to a win.
