Struggling to sleep? Any tips? in Health ·
Raymond Harris12 said:Does anyone know of any plant-based remedies that could help stop me from waking up way too early?

Basically, I’ve been under so much intense stress lately that I keep snapping awake at 2 AM and

just staring at the ceiling until the sun comes up. Chamomile tea and warm milk aren't doing squat. I'm also three months pregnant. I really want to avoid anything pharmaceutical—honestly, even an aspirin used to knock me out, but now even that does nothing. And my doctor told me to stay far away from Valerie.

Anyone got any ideas? I can barely function at work, and honestly, I'm terrified I'm going to trip on the sidewalk or pass out behind the wheel while driving.

I actually chatted with my OBGYN the other day, and she mentioned that once you hit the 12-week mark, taking a small dose of something is generally fine if needed. She just doesn't recommend it before then since that's when the baby is developing most intensely.

I’m only getting an hour or two of sleep a night; I wake up at 2 AM every single morning and just wait for dawn. And don't even get me started on Daylight Savings—that messes me up big time. At 8 weeks, theoretically, I shouldn't take anything, though my doctor did try to comfort me by saying she had patients on much heavier meds who still had perfectly healthy babies.

Whatever you do, don't go reading those Rodin forums; they'll scare the life out of you.

Honestly, I’m still reeling from this.

Nica and Saab, you two should feel terrible for letting this lady moderate Chicken just so she could shut it down.

Brian Palmer6 said:Good evening! I’m not entirely sure if I’m in the right spot, so sorry if I should have started this thread somewhere else—I guess I might be a little lost.

He’s a really sweet guy, honestly, but he can be so stubborn whenever I suggest changing his diet or try to offer any health advice. A few years back, he was around 260 lbs, but he dropped down to about 175 lbs after some heavy drinking and doing manual labor. When we first met, he was at that 175 mark, but then he gained it all back and hit 220 lbs within just a year.

Right now, he’s living as a renter with some roommates. They have a kitchen that's pretty run-down, I suppose, but it’s functional enough to cook in—he just refuses to use it. I’m always telling him, "Hey, maybe just grab some pasta and some veggies and whip something up? You'd probably feel a lot better." But no, he just insists he can't or doesn't want to, so nothing ever happens.

Since he’s making a bit more money now, he doesn't really have an excuse to complain about being broke; he could easily cook something "healthy" at least twice a week. Instead, he keeps blaming that old gas stove they have, saying he has to clean everything constantly—even though it doesn't even get dirty since he hardly uses it 😵 anyway.

The thing is, his body is clearly trying to tell him to stop eating like this. He’s constantly grabbing burgers, frozen pizzas, or sandwiches loaded with extra mayo. It's not like he has nowhere to eat at work, either—it's not like he's avoiding sitting in the breakroom with his boss and coworker. I understood when he didn't have a place to sit before, but now, I think he's just making excuses. It's easier and cheaper for him to just grab some deli meat and mayo from the grocery store and wolf it down rather than making a soup once in a while.

Now, here is the real issue... his gas is unbearable. He’s always had some issues, but after being together for two and a half years, I’ve noticed—and even his buddies have pointed out—that he leaves behind a literal cloud of toxic fumes. 🙂 He thinks it’s funny, but for me, it really isn't. 😠 We actually got into a huge fight about it once, and he tried to argue that it wasn't his fault, but the beans he ate, claiming it happened way before too (though yesterday he only had pancakes and it still smelled awful). Blah, blah, blah...

I explicitly tell him he needs to change what he eats, and then he snaps at me, calling me heartless and saying I'm counting his every bite. I don't find that normal at all, and he just won't see it... I've told him multiple times that he doesn't need to start lifting weights or go vegan just to please me, but he needs to take care of himself. His digestive system is clearly struggling, but he just won't face it. My mom ruined her figure and her thyroid because of a constant pastry habit... I'm actually thinking about just paying for allergy testing for him, since he's having such a hard time just going to the doctor on his own.

What do you guys think? Is there any way to ease up this whole gas situation?

😁 That bolded sentence is hilarious.

You can definitely cut down on the gas by cutting out junk food and sticking to a low FODMAP diet https://www.healthline.com/nutrition...-diet#section1 -

Or, to put it simply: eat more meat and veggies that don't cause bloating. He wouldn't be leaving a stink behind if he just ate some turkey breast and a green salad.
Man, if he's addicted to junk food, well, like any addict, nobody can force him to stop if he doesn't want to.
People's eating habits.Man, it's such a pain to get things changed.

Honestly, you should just send it off to be tested for bad bacteria if he's dealing with those constant, stinky gas issues already https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/stool-test/about/pac-20385110
($117 once you take the test, you'll get an antibiotic prescription and a low-carb diet plan). It’s a new diagnosis, so not every GI doctor out there will be up to speed on it, but at least you'll finally have some answers.

It’s wild how nothing seems to bother him—men are just built different, man. I swear, I’d love to know what it’s like to have a brain that carefree for just one day.

The way they linked those pastries to thyroid issues actually makes total sense to me.
Constant burping - happening 100x a day in Health ·
Daniel Green98 said:There's really nothing else to it, just gotta deal with the stomach issue. Gastroenterology, I guess.
My friend went through something pretty much identical. An ulcer...

Can you please tell me more about just waiting? Is that actually an option? Nobody’s even mentioned surgery yet, but I’m suffering here.

I've been dealing with constant burping since the second I wake up. My endoscopy showed my stomach sphincter is basically wide open.

Luckily, it isn't intense all day—it usually ramps up in the afternoon. Honestly, the worst part is when the gas travels from my stomach up my esophagus; it takes like thirty minutes of painful attempts just to get one good burp out. It's infuriating. I can barely eat anything in the afternoon, and sometimes I have to hide my meals just so nobody watches me struggle. Some weeks are fine, though. They're... manageable.

The only thing I know for sure is you gotta avoid everything that weakens that muscle—so no coffee, no booze, and no smoking.
How long have you been on Eliza?

Dealing with bile reflux in Health ·
Edward Ortiz54 said:Hey everyone,

I've been dealing with major acid reflux issues for about 2.5 years now after having my gallbladder removed. The diagnosis is chronic gastritis caused by the reflux. I've completely overhauled my diet and tried pretty much every medication out there, but nothing seems to touch it.
What's your experience been like? Has anyone actually managed to fix this?

Best,

What kind of symptoms are you getting? Maybe I've got something undiagnosed too.

Do you know if I can just go private for an exam without waiting on a referral from my doctor? I have a discount at this one clinic, so it feels like the smarter move.
What specific test should I ask for?

You can just take a stool sample to a private lab like Quest Diagnostics $50 to check for H. pylori.
As for $117, you can also skip the referral and head to a place like Labcorp to get tested for SIBO, which could be what's causing that bloating and constipation. They usually prescribe a specific antibiotic for that too.
Plus, you’ll get a sugar-free diet plan, similar to the one for Candida.
Just don't expect your doctor to know much about SIBO—most GPs and even GI specialists will try to refer you to a psychiatrist before they actually give you any real advice on nutrition.

Hannah Lee10 said:Hey everyone!

Okay, look, I’m definitely going back to my doctor for a full checkup, but since I’ve already dropped a small fortune on private specialists checking me out from head to toe, I wanted to ask here first before I dump more $133 on an ultrasound if it turns out to be nothing..

A few months back, I started getting this really intense bloating and constipation, and honestly, my digestion hasn't been right since. The bloating happens even when I stick perfectly to my meal plan and eat on schedule.. which is weird because I'm naturally pretty thin and never dealt with this before. Along with the bloat, there's this heavy feeling, though it doesn't exactly hurt. On top of that, I get this sharp, stinging sensation on the right side of my stomach—just under the ribs—that seems to radiate down my right side...
Also, my bladder is acting up. I feel like I have to run to the bathroom constantly, and then I just sit there forever waiting for anything to happen.

About ten days ago, I felt incredibly nauseous after having about half a beer. Thank God I was home to just lie down, because it was brutal. I had to force myself to throw up just to get some instant relief. I’d eaten a full meal right before the beer, too..
The same thing happened yesterday. I took maybe three sips of beer, laid down, and the nausea hit... plus that stinging on my right side, and then the nausea got even worse when I pressed on the spot that hurts. I had to vomit, and that was that. I felt totally fine afterward, though.

On top of all that, I’m feeling ravenous all the time.. but I feel pretty terrible after eating if the meal isn't mostly healthy stuff..

I also struggle with anxiety, so I wonder if that could be playing a role here?
Any advice on which blood work markers I should ask for? Going to the local clinic feels like a total waste of time because that place is a complete circus.

P.S. I used to drink beer regularly without any issues, so I doubt I'm allergic or sensitive to the ingredients.

Maybe this sounds a bit trivial or vague, but I just have a gut feeling that something is off.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks so much!

It's probably not the beer. Go see your primary care doctor and get a referral to test for H. pylori, because that causes nausea, pain, extreme hunger, and digestive issues.
Fix your diet—cut out the carbs since they basically feed the bacteria + try a strict FODMAP diet.
