How much sugar is too much per day? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Peter Robinson93 said:Cut back on white bread? Seriously, where am I supposed to get that energy from? Bread is calorie-dense, and I’m easily knocking back 300 grams of it a day—maybe at least 200... If I were to slash it by half, hmm... what then?

Look, white bread is fine after a workout... you don't need to be nearly as strict once you've finished training, provided you aren't loading up on fats too. It all comes down to your goal: cutting, bulking, or just maintaining. If you're on a cut, though? You should ditch the bread and all that junk entirely.

So, looking strictly at sugar intake, is it actually "better" to eat, say, three pears, two apples, a banana, and two glasses of milk (roughly 45 grams of sugar) instead of an 8-ounce Coca-Cola (about 20 grams)?

Look, I get it—the fruit option is obviously healthier on its own. But I just can't shake the feeling that my total sugar consumption is way too high, so...

It’s not better... sugar is sugar. That’s why people avoid milk in bodybuilding circles too. Think about it for a second.😉 Fruit is fine, but don't overdo it. Everything has a limit.

And what Richard Cook2 is saying is spot on... you need about 60% of your daily intake if you're bulking. When you're cutting, all those numbers shift in favor of protein.

Honestly, stop obsessing over specific sugar intake when you’re consuming it in everything you eat without even realizing it. Unless you’re hitting the gym hard, then sure, go ahead and load up on some glucose tablets from CVS. That's fine if you're active.
Just work out, get moving, and cut back on the bread, alcohol, and all that other junk, and you'll have a six-pack in no time.

By the way, "treating yourself" usually just means eating stuff loaded with sugar and fat—that's your real reason for gaining weight right there. Cut that down, ditch the sodas, and drink tons and tons of water instead.

Glucose supplements are ONLY for after a workout! Never any other time... don't go giving this guy bad advice.... Truth is, you don't actually need added sugar at all since it's just empty calories... Having one piece of fruit a day is fine, just don't overdo it.. Avoid regular table sugar and juices too... Just use artificial sweeteners if you need to sweeten things up.
