Even as a complete layman, the lack of logic was glaringly obvious; nobody could offer a single coherent explanation for why they were rushing such a drastic move. If I hadn't been able to get someone important on the phone to intervene, that would have been the reality. We eventually spent four hours just waiting to head home without any surgery being performed, simply because a specialist finally showed up and actually bothered to give him an honest examination.
We managed to get through it unscathed, but I can only imagine how many people aren't so lucky.
Since then, I don't trust the "system" with even a fingernail.
Matthew Young35 said:I highly recommend you watch the film Death result of Mr. Lazarescu.
A man is shuttled from one hospital to another by ambulance, and absolutely nobody wants to take him in—they just keep passing him off to the next facility.
And this was filmed long before COVID-19 ever existed.
Sure, it's a Romanian film, but it's effectively the same nonsense you'd see if it were filmed right here in the States.
Honestly, I recommend this movie to everyone; it's excellent.
Government employees love doing this. When you show up, their first thought isn't how to help you, but how to get rid of you and ship you off to someone else.
It has nothing to do with COVID-19. This could have happened anytime, and most likely, it has happened countless times before.
brightpilot6 said:Perhaps. But if no one is being held responsible even during normal times when people are dying simply because there isn't enough emergency care available, why should anyone be surprised that things continue this way in such a chaotic era? The system didn't just collapse now; it hasn't been buckling under the weight of mismanagement and neglect—both financial and personal—for decades. And more often than not, it's the person who actually trusts the system that ends up paying the price.
Unfortunately, we see these kinds of tragic stories all the time; the only difference is that usually, the cause is just "standard" incompetence and poor organization. Now, however, it’s being rebranded as "COVID-related incompetence," which makes it the perfect narrative for those fighting against the mandates. That was essentially the point of my previous comment.
If you have ever had to personally escort someone through hospitals, or if you happen to rely on the healthcare system yourself, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
Matthew Young35 said:After reading through this, my takeaway is simple: the mother passed away because of sheer negligence and incompetence, not because of some mass hysteria.
Right from the start, you see that exchange: "Can I have a glass of water?" followed by "No, I'm from a different department."
How does that have anything to do with COVID-19 panic?
The constant runaround you get from staff in government institutions is more the rule than the exception.
This isn't about the virus; this could have happened anytime—a year ago, two years ago, or five years ago.
Don't bring her back; we won't admit her. The reason—as crazy as it sounds—was because her son had a slight fever. They demand a negative COVID-19 test result before they'll accept anyone, and if someone dies in the meantime, well, too bad. The test result, which would show up a few days later, was naturally negative.

It isn't just that no one will answer for it; I almost expect people to hand out medals for success instead.

The effects were top-tier... it isn't some typical, preachy nonsense like Rambo where he takes out half the Russian army and just gets a single scratch on his hand because he's such a powerful American.
I'm not saying Sandra Bullock could have actually died up there, but the film really forces you to contemplate how messed up we are as a species... thinking about how there's absolutely nothing up there but eternal silence...
Interstellar is next on my list to watch...
Anthony Wright30 said:And I wonder, just how much longer will it take for things to finally settle? 😁
I suppose people are still booking trips to some extent, though I wonder who would actually bother traveling when you can't easily cross borders or when everyone has already burned through their annual leave during this whole lockdown period. In my estimation, the travel agencies will likely be the first ones to feel the squeeze, but after that, I guess it really depends on how much economic resilience each individual business possesses. It is all quite difficult to predict at this stage.
I suppose there is a certain charm to the idea that we might end up having more local tourism boards than actual tourists this year. 😁
I suppose I should probably clarify that what I’m saying here is just based on bits and pieces of conversation I've had with friends who work in the travel industry or own their own businesses there; personally, I don't have any direct involvement in the tourism sector myself.
Anthony Wright30 said:It is quite amusing to observe how everyone seems to be enjoying themselves amidst the collapse of the tourism industry; I suppose they truly believe their own livelihoods are untouchable while they wait for the neighbor's business to go under first.
