Best protein powders for muscle gain? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Daniel Hill86 said:I'm about 6'4" and 207 lbs, and I'm looking to bulk up my chest and arms—nothing crazy, just some solid mass. Which supplements from brands like Optimum Nutrition or MuscleTech should I go with? I've used Weider Mega Mass 2000 and basic proteins before. Any advice would be appreciated... also, how many times a week should I be hitting the gym since I've got a home setup?

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but there isn't some magic protein powder that’s going to target your chest and arms specifically to build them up... if that's what you're thinking. If you're just asking which protein is worth buying, honestly, just go with whatever is easiest on your wallet—most of them are pretty much the same stuff in different tubs (though I'd steer clear of those random brands you find at Walmart or similar stores, which are usually total junk). As for the training side of things, it really depends on what kind of program you're running, but generally, 3 to 4 times a week is the sweet spot... if you're planning on focusing strictly on those two muscle groups, just make sure you give them at least 48 hours of recovery between sessions...

I basically answered my own question... it really just comes down to the portions.

Bradley Fisher56 said:Hey guys, please help me out here—I really need some advice.

So, I'm fifteen years old and I row every single day for about an hour and a half to two hours... I weigh around 165 lbs right now. I haven't actually used any protein supplements yet, so I was wondering what would be the best thing to pick up if I want to start building some muscle mass... thanks.

Honestly, you can't beat proteins from animal sources... they're definitely the way to go.

So, I decided to finally pick up some protein powder today... I've never actually bought any or used it before... I really want to build some muscle, but I'm totally lost on which ones to grab for my first time—any recommendations? I'm 17, and I was wondering if protein supplements are going to mess anything up or if they're actually bad for your health...
and how much do they usually cost in dollars.
THANKS

Since you aren't really keeping up with this thread and you're only 17, protein powders could definitely be bad for your health—if you were an adult, it wouldn't be such an issue...😁 Also, why exactly do you need protein for muscle growth? Are you hitting the gym or playing a specific sport?

Nicholas Kern90 said:Can you imagine how much that little bit of whey is going to spike your insulin?

I mean, yeah—it does trigger an insulin response, sure—but when you mix it with a lean protein source, that effect actually gets dialed back quite a bit. Honestly, though, I don't really see any massive benefit to mixing them like that, especially if you're just a casual lifter... maybe some people do it just to make the taste less awful, I guess...

So, I was reading through this whole thread from the very beginning, but I couldn't quite find an answer to what’s really bugging me... basically, for a girl who weighs about 155 lbs and is 5'6", looking to lose fat while keeping all her muscle, how much protein should she be hitting daily?! btw—that girl is me...

Wait, why are you even worried about losing muscle?

urbantrucker322 said:Oh man, up until now I've barely been hitting 110 grams, I definitely need to start adding more whey—I've been mixing it into my oatmeal in the morning and then into cottage cheese at night😉

thanks 😉

Ditch the whey in your cottage cheese during that last meal... it's kind of a waste of extra protein if you can just eat the food itself. Just go for 250g of cottage cheese and maybe throw in some Omega-3 supplements if you can swing it.
