China Trip - Shanghai (April 19, 2009) in Formula 1 ·
Honestly, this is pretty underwhelming

and Blazic is just being disingenuous by claiming how incredibly fascinating this all is. 🙄

But what else is there for anyone else to do?

Early morning, rain pouring down...

Well, who would have thought we'd be racing in countries where it actually rains? It’s a bit like expecting Inter Milan and Milan to play a championship match in the middle of January right when the snow starts piling up.

give me a break, Jonathan Booth5

😁

I don't understand why people are getting so excited about rain like it's some kind of miracle. We'll probably just spend twenty minutes watching the cars circle aimlessly behind the Scuderia Ferrari pit wall before they eventually red-flag the whole thing, leaving us to sit around for an hour and a half waiting for some official announcement to tell us what we already knew.🙂

I am absolutely losing my mind over what happened at the GP of China-Shanghai... honestly, just total chaos. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa😢

It feels like we're seeing a bit too many wet races lately, doesn't it? 😁

As long as they can manage to pull off at least two laps 😁

Michael Lee4 said:I really think having KERS available, combined with how much fuel he’s carrying, could be the deciding factor—especially if that KERS boost gives him an edge right off the starting line.

You seem to be forgetting how Fernando Alonso managed that incredible charge from 9th to 3rd during the Malaysian Grand Prix.

But then, just as quickly, he started sliding back through the field because the car was simply too heavy to maintain that pace.☕

Jonathan Booth5 said:Fernando Alonso, six fuel laps left. If he can just shave off two seconds per lap, and that top-tier car manages to find another second and a half, then the master from Asturias pulls into the pits without breaking a sweat, tops up the tank, swaps to Super Softs, grabs a quick cappuccino, and rolls back out in the lead by a full second and a half. 🙏 🙏

I'll put twenty bucks on Fernando Alonso taking the win tomorrow.🙏

What a total fairy tale

🙏Jonathan Booth5, let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

If we're being honest, the most realistic outcome for tomorrow is a win for Mark Webber in that Red Bull car.🙏

Michael Lee4 said:I was just saying this yesterday—that lineup of Flavio, Alonso, and Massa is basically an unbeatable trio of absolute drama queens.

Actually, hold on, let me rephrase that.

Alonso might be a bit of a drama magnet,

but you can't deny his raw talent—he isn't hitting a ceiling.

Massa, on the other hand, is both limited in skill and a total pushover.🙏

So, if you look at it logically, Flavio probably shouldn't even bother with two drivers; he should just focus on one.

Because Massa essentially embodies everything Flavio's flaws tend to seek out.🙏

The guy really only thrives when he's sitting right there on the pole position at the start.

In his case, it’s all about that perfect qualifying run.

Once he's stuck in a second-row starting spot, things get messy—dealing with the dirty air, the debris, and that awkward entry into the first turn can really throw him off.🙏

A driver with those kinds of limitations just doesn't belong at Ferrari.

He should probably just head over to Renault

Honestly, we could all use a few more drivers who know how to play it safe like that. 😁

It’s an old, tried-and-true tactic 😬.🤣

Man,
there isn't any wall in Shanghai 😁.

At the end of the day, he really is the superior driver.☕

He might be the quickest on a given Sunday, but being the absolute best? That’s a much harder nut to crack.😁

As for Kimi, I’ve got a similar feeling.😍

Honestly, my money is on the die-hard fans who stubbornly believe that Kimi—hey, Kimi!—is still going to pull off some kind of miracle.😁

But then you have to wonder what Robert Kubica is using to be that good.

What kind of secret sauce is he on?😍

Nelson Piquet is stuck at a brutal 697.9 again 😁

It’s actually just General Motors playing the long game

Think of Piquet as a mobile refueling station—basically a heavy-duty tank circling the track, just waiting for an aggressive driver like Fernando Alonso to catch up during a long stint so they can perform a mid-race pit stop on the fly 🙏

It’s exactly what I anticipated; Alonso is running quite light on the grid. My sense is they are planning a very aggressive strategy involving a short opening stint on those soft compounds—which tend to degrade after just five or six laps anyway—before switching over to the harder tires for the remainder of the race.

True, only Alonso benefited from the new components, but take a look at what
Pat Symonds, executive director of engineering, had to say:
"Fernando's front row position is a tribute to the hard work from everyone back at the factory to get the new diffuser on the car following the result of our appeal earlier in the week. It's working as expected although we had some problems on the bodywork this morning as it burnt slightly, but once again the technicians here did a great job to get it fixed. Now we must get the same equipment for the rookie and give him the chance to move up the standings."

I find myself wondering, though, whether they will actually manage to get those parts installed before tomorrow's race, or if we won't see them until the next round in Bahrain...

Quite interesting ☕
