Rijeka's finest: Local gems? in Music ·
swiftmaker20 said:Exactly. If we could just lure a few international superstars here, maybe our venues wouldn't be sitting empty (looking at you, Madison Square Garden 🤔). Right now, local music scenes basically boil down to garage bands and the occasional set by some "legendary American artists" performing on the Boardwalk.
I honestly wouldn't even complain if someone booked Egypt for a show at Sony; I can only imagine how many people would turn up. It’d probably just be stormywolf39, Bill, and me in the front row, with maybe five random passersby behind us. 🤣

Well, I guess you have to slowly acclimate people to that level of talent. At least my twin brother Joe is making an effort.

How could you say that? The 27th is practically a national holiday concert

Where is there even going to be any hope in San Francisco? Even the stereo systems are failing there.

Well, I only mentioned them as an example because they have a Billy Idol Tribute show out in San Diego 😁

Robin Rodriguez5 said:Are you suggesting Ciccolini was the first to record Mozart or Beethoven? He certainly wasn't, nor was he the last. Besides, no one ever attacks an artist just because they chose not to perform their own original compositions.

I specifically stated he was the first to record Mozart—please, let's try reading for comprehension here. As for the rest, I agree with hollowseal33.

At the end of the day, even if forum members aren't famous composers, they're still part of this community. Some of them probably fly fighter jets or drive tanks; does it really matter?

Or to put it simply

A Maiden concert would be absolutely incredible
I'll be mesmerized by any footage of them performing
I’d certainly have a blast at a solid Maiden cover band set, though I wouldn't claim it as high art

Robin Rodriguez5 said:Following that logic, did Ciccolini gain worldwide fame just by playing piano compositions by Mozart and Beethoven? He released albums of his interpretations of Mozart and Beethoven where practically nothing was changed from the original notes, and he sold them in the millions. I don't recall anyone ever criticizing him for it—maybe we should ask the folks over at Reddit if they're worried about his health? (He's still alive, as far as I know.)

Perhaps it's because Mozart and Beethoven didn't record their own albums, whereas he did. Since they've been gone for quite some time, they couldn't exactly file a complaint, could they? But my point stands: you're comparing classical masters to tribute bands.
I certainly understand your desire to defend them, though. 😁

@ Banderas: That’s true, but we have to remember that most classical compositions were written long before recording technology even existed. They were originally intended to be performed by live musicians, and the whole way people experienced music back then was fundamentally different from how we listen today.

Look, I’m not necessarily bashing the whole idea of a tribute act. I think they’re perfectly fine for die-hard fans who can't make it to a concert whenever they want. But trying to assign them a value beyond that? That’s just ridiculous.

Robin Rodriguez5 said:Just a quick observation: the whole "they should just write their own stuff" argument feels incredibly hollow. Authorship and performance are two entirely different skill sets, and conflating them is a massive mistake. People keep insisting that if these groups were actually talented, they’d be creating original material. Honestly? I’d much rather listen to incredible cover bands who never wrote an original note in their lives—kind of like how I feel about those classic tribute acts in Chicago.

No, comparing Ive Pogorelić to tribute bands playing at KSET is just ridiculous. It's honestly laughable...

Robin Rodriguez5 said:Pogorelić is bottom tier 😛 I have more respect for Vatra and Ramirez than I do for Pogorelić, Ciccolin, or Rostropovich... What's the point? Spending 20 years in school just to spend your entire life playing other people's music? And they even gained global fame doing it—it's just pathetic. If he wants to play Mozart for me, fine, but why can't he create something original? 🙄

🤦

I am all for this.😳
Samuel Murphy6, why don't you stop being such a coward and finally announce the headliner? Hint: poke her face 😉
I suspect the main reason the YYYs struggled was due to poor sound quality and subpar acoustics. They truly gave it their all, and even as someone who isn't exactly a huge fan, I have to admit they put in the work

I didn't say a single thing regarding the band's quality. That guy above is just being an idiot because he's upset about the bylaws.

Can we please get feraldriver8 to stop promoting that band?
Of course everything has to happen on the one Saturday when I'm completely unavailable 😢

it was 🙂
I lost both of them a long time ago ☕
I can't believe they're actually playing this again. Honestly, I remember hearing people say it all the time whenever we were heading back to New York after a concert. Thank God it's a bit more of a rarity these days.
