This forum is incredibly slow in Feedback & Suggestions ·
mistyhound94 said:In this day and age, where everyone is constantly hyping up lightning-fast fiber optics and high-speed connections, we’re basically hanging out on a forum that feels more like it belongs in the last century than in today's world... And why is that? Because keeping a decent server running requires actual cash flow, and since there aren't enough people here who are willing or able to bankroll this place, we're stuck with the leftovers. Over the last few weeks, trying to access the site between 8 and 9 PM has been a total nightmare. Just in the past couple of days, sometimes it takes a full 20 SECONDS just to load a single page! And don't even get me started on the login issues, which have been a persistent headache for way longer than that...

So, what’s the solution? Honestly, it probably involves some poor technician getting poked with pitchforks just to try and patch up the remnants of this bottom-tier server that the owner has been neglecting alongside the forum for years now...
Look, I totally get that we’re all here for free, and I realize the ads are there to bring in revenue, but this forum is like a tiny little microcosm of our entire country... Money is coming in from somewhere, but absolutely nothing is being reinvested to make things better...

Anderlone, why won't you just invest in this community and take things to the next level? Even the layout itself hasn't changed in ages, which isn't necessarily a crime, but the actual functionality is incredibly low—I'd go as far as saying it's almost non-existent... Should we be paying a small, symbolic fee just to keep the servers breathing? There are nearly 3,000 people online right now, yet only about 400 are actually logged in, which is clearly due to the exact reasons you keep ignoring without any real explanation... You seem to be living under this illusion that everything is fine as long as it's "working," because why bother changing anything if it barely functions? The money will land in your pocket regardless, and honestly, none of us have any say in the matter anyway, nor will you ever truly value a suggestion regarding the forum, especially when it comes to the server infrastructure...
Think about it: if we had an annual membership fee of maybe just a few bucks, multiply that by 3,000 users, and you wouldn't just have enough to maintain the servers and the site, you could actually pay a portion of the crew who moderates this place for FREE... You'd still have plenty left over for coffee, smokes, and a decent deli sandwich... But I guess that sounds like too much work for you... Right now, you've got two or three people patching everything together while there are tons of frustrated users who actually WANT to hang out, participate in threads, and reply to posts—unless, of course, your only desire is for us all to just go outside into the sunshine and soak up some Vitamin D, because clearly, you're such a selfless saint...

I just don't get it, I really can't believe someone would systematically neglect a forum that actually has decent traffic and potential in an era where WhatsApp groups and Discord have already swallowed up so many other communities... It makes zero sense to me that someone wouldn't want to invest even a little bit of money to ensure this place runs normally... Especially nowadays, when there are so many hosting providers out there with perfectly reasonable prices... It's honestly a shame...

Yeah, I'm with you 100% on this...
Way to go, mistyhound94! 🙂
I don't understand how anyone can comment that things are going well... 🤔
If it's supposed to be free, then make sure it actually works properly...
And if we're supposed to be paying, then just say so...

I once had a manager who was honestly enough to make anyone lose their faith. It was a Sunday—during a major holiday service, too. I’m not much of a religious person, but still... it just wasn't right.
Usually, she was one of those types who would break her own back just to squeeze out a few extra bucks—hers or anyone else's, it didn't matter.

The goal is to work so you can live, not to live just to work. It sounds cliché, I know.

Just imagine life... you work yourself to the bone for your kids and your grandkids, planning everything, scraping by, and pushing yourself to the limit thinking you've secured a future of abundance and happiness for everyone—only for your daughter to bring home a junkie who burns through half the estate, leaving you broken from both the labor and the heartbreak.

It's better to live comfortably off your hard work, ensuring your kids aren't blowing money on drugs and that you aren't being pushed around in a wheelchair because a stroke took you out due to all that stress from a son-in-law.

I've dealt with just about every kind of workplace bullying there is...
I've swallowed a massive amount of crap for pennies just because I needed the paycheck...

But a few years back, I was offered some overtime alongside my regular job and I turned it down flat. Sure, it was more cash, but it meant adding another 4 or 5 hours to my workday, and honestly, I just didn't need it...
stormygull36 said:From where I'm standing, I think I could actually handle manual labor—given enough time to get used to it, anyway. 🙂

I'm not saying it would be easy—I never claimed it was—but you've got a blueprint or a project, you know exactly what needs to be done, and you just chip away at it bit by bit.

After a while, it just becomes routine, kind of like any other job, I guess.

I'm gonna leave it at that. Agree to disagree. 🙂

Me too. 🙂
stormygull36 said:I guess I finally see why you're taking this so personally. 🙂
My bad, swiftgull4.

I am definitely not taking it personally, but you really can't compare the two things you're talking about...
I mean, if I were working in an office right now and someone tried to tell me my job was just sitting around all day, I’d definitely push back on that too! 😁
Morgan Newman7 said:If someone had actually touched him right now, he’d probably be in a better mood...☕😬

🤣
stormygull36 said:I mean, how many more requirements can you actually throw at me? 😁

Look, I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty—I've always been used to putting in the work.

To be fair, I haven't really worked out in the pouring rain or during those brutal American heat waves before... mostly because when I was doing stuff around my own house, I just couldn't bring myself to deal with that level of discomfort, you know? But if I really needed the paycheck, I’d definitely pull those shifts regardless of the weather.
If I didn't have a job to get to, staying stuck at home with absolutely nothing to do would probably be the absolute worst part of it all.

As many as you need to... 😁 I’ve actually done this type of work professionally for a long time, rather than just treating it as a little hobby to unwind from office life...
Hannah Allen5 said:Who pissed in your coffee this morning? 😲

Bread doesn't just get made; bread grows on grocery store shelves.🥳

I can't name a single baker, butcher, laborer, locksmith, or clerk—it feels like almost everyone is stuck in some cubicle these days. It honestly blows my mind how many people on this forum claim to be "working" compared to what I see in actual real life.

I don't know anything about it, since I work in an office—which is really just a fancy way of saying I'm trading my health for a paycheck. 😁
Though, if we're being honest, you're probably wrecking your brain even more just by reading this forum... 🤣
stormygull36 said:I mean, honestly? I’m pretty sure I could totally nail that job. I guess I just have that kind of thing in me—you know? Just a feeling! 😉

But how many hours a day are we talking about, what kind of weather conditions should I expect, and what's the overall duration? 😁
Plus, honestly, that whole process you described involving digging up and burying pipes sounds like the kind of work where even the tiniest little slip-up could lead to a massive disaster...
stormygull36 said:Honestly, this feels like you're totally underselling mental labor—all that concept development and problem-solving you have to scramble through right before a deadline hits, which just makes everything so much more stressful.

For me, doing something physical after work or even on the weekends actually feels like a way to unwind... and sometimes I think, man, life must be easier for people in manual labor. Like, they're told to dig a trench, lay some pipes, cover them up, level things out, pave it over...
There isn't a ton of deep thinking involved; it's mostly just mechanical stuff.
I'm speaking from my own experience with my job, obviously, but I'm sure there are plenty of office roles out there where the workload and the responsibility aren't nearly as intense.

Oh, totally. Their boss probably even wipes their chin for them because the job is just so mindless and repetitive.
Just give it a shot. 😉
Ashley Vaughn79 said: 08/19. Is it better to be successful professionally but have poor spinal flow, or to be less successful at work but have good spinal flow? That's the question.

I'll just make a copy from my inbox. 🙂

Our lovely moderator asked me to expand this into an intro post for the topic of the day.
To be honest, I don't really remember what I intended to say.
Maybe I wrote this quite literally.

Basically, people spend a lot of time sitting at work.
It’s well known that life energy, or "chi," flows through the spine and circulates through the body. People who sit a lot have their spines compressed for most of the day, which stifles that energy flow.

The result is that professionals with desk jobs—which is almost everyone these days—start looking worn out and aged pretty quickly, often dealing with various physical ailments and mental struggles...
But because they are so dedicated to their careers, they earn a decent amount of money.

So, the question could be framed as whether it's worth sacrificing your health for the sake of your career and reputation. Have you ever been in a situation where you were offered a chance to sell yourself out to an employer for great money, but at the cost of ruining your health? Poorer health, better pay.
Is it worth it or not?

Then again, the thing about the spine could also be a metaphor for one's integrity, self-respect, or honor.
In other words, would you bow down and humiliate yourself for good money?

That's roughly how the topic could go.
However, the moderator mentioned she might enrich the thread by sharing an uncomfortable story from her own private life. If she feels like it, she can add that story to the thread. It would make things more interesting.
If not, here are the questions:

Is it worth sacrificing your health for your job and professional reputation? Have you faced situations where you could sell yourself out to an employer for big money, but only if you ruined your health? Is it worth it?
Would you humiliate yourself for good money?

Honestly, comparing someone who worked their way to retirement as a construction worker to someone who spent their career behind a desk... I mean, what kind of ridiculous comparison is that even supposed to be? It just feels so silly when you really think about it... goodness me...🤦
It seems like almost everyone is heading back into the office today, isn't it? If that's the case, I have to wonder who's actually going to be around to bake the bread...
And honestly, even this one doesn't exactly look like a massive haul...

So, I was thinking today that maybe the topic of the day should be about whether it’s actually worth it to completely wreck your health just to climb the corporate ladder or build up a massive reputation at work... I mean, have any of you ever found yourselves staring down an incredible opportunity where the paycheck is absolutely life-changing, but the catch is that it’ll basically drain your soul and ruin your physical well-being? It's that classic dilemma of choosing between having a huge bank account and actually feeling healthy enough to enjoy it...
I can't help but wonder if it’s actually going to be worth the effort in the end, or if we're all just spinning our wheels here...

Is it really worth throwing your health down the drain just to climb the corporate ladder? I mean, if you're looking at it from the perspective of just keeping a roof over your head and making sure the bills are paid... I don't know, is it actually worth the trade-off?...
You know, I can't help but feel like this whole thing about the ridge could actually serve as a deep metaphor for one's own sense of integrity, self-respect, or even personal honor...
So, I’ve been sitting here thinking about this one, and honestly, I have to ask... would you actually bow down and swallow your pride just to get your hands on some serious cash...?

Is it actually worth tearing your health apart just to climb that corporate ladder or hit some arbitrary deadline... I mean, honestly, I find myself wondering about this more and more lately... Is there any point in sacrificing your physical and mental well-being for a paycheck if you aren't even around to enjoy it? It feels like we're all caught in this endless cycle of grinding ourselves down, thinking that if we just push through one more late night at the office or skip one more meal, we'll finally reach that sweet spot of success... but the reality is that once your body starts sending out those warning signs, no amount of money or fancy job titles can really buy that vitality back... It’s such a tough realization to face when you’ve been working so hard, but I truly believe that finding a balance is the only way to actually sustain the life you're working so hard to build... So, I was just thinking about something that came up at work today... have any of you ever found yourselves staring down a massive opportunity where an employer offers you a huge paycheck, but there’s a catch—it basically requires you to trade away your health and sanity for it? It’s such a heavy thing to weigh, isn't it... whether that kind of money is actually worth the toll it takes on your body and mind, or if it's just a trap that leaves you empty in the end...
So, I was just sitting here thinking about something pretty heavy, and I couldn't help but wonder... would you actually go through the whole process of swallowing your pride and humiliating yourself if it meant walking away with a massive pile of cash? It’s one of those deep questions that really makes you pause and look at your own values, because on one hand, we all want that financial freedom and security, but on the other hand, there's that little voice in your head asking how much of your dignity is actually for sale... I mean, where do you personally draw the line between chasing a dream and losing yourself in the process??

Honestly, anyone who’s ever held down a job here in America has probably dealt with that sinking feeling of being totally belittled by a boss at some point... it just seems to be part of the experience, doesn't it...
And once again, we’re looking at this whole thing being handled with such blatant disrespect, basically just tearing down anyone's health and well-being in the process...
I just don't see how that makes any sense, because unless your entire job description involves sitting in an office all day sucking on plutonium, it's definitely not worth the hassle...

🤦

The easiest path is claiming someone else is to blame. That might be true once or twice, but it’s statistically impossible for everyone else to be wrong all the time. It’s just unrealistic.

Thanks, we definitely drifted off-topic.

But even character can evolve. For instance, if you're someone with a short fuse that constantly lands you in hot water, you can work on de-escalating your own tension. Over time, you can become much more level-headed. It won't happen overnight, but through years of effort, it's possible.

That describes me perfectly.
When I'm in an argument, I tend to say whatever comes to mind just to get under the other person's skin, even if I don't mean any of it... then the next day, I feel terrible and full of regret, but by then, the damage is already done.
And honestly, that's something I really need to work on. It requires intentional effort and a massive shift in my own personality, starting with just admitting that I have a problem in the first place.
Some people won't believe me and will claim I'm just making excuses or being fake, but I am truly owning up to my mistakes and working to be better. Let them try doing the same thing—it's definitely not easy...

So, yeah, that's really what it comes down to.
But I truly believe you can step back and see things clearly even when you're involved, you just have to have the willpower to do it...
I mean, you can always do it, I guess... once you’ve messed up enough, or hurt people, or lost everything—even lost someone dear—you might finally decide to just sit back and look inward at why everything went sideways in the first place. But man, it is such a massive struggle to actually go against your own ego and admit, "Hey, I might be wrong here, maybe my perspective is totally skewed"... it's incredibly hard. Seriously, give it a shot sometime. It’s always so much easier to just point fingers at everyone else, shift all the blame onto them, and tell yourself you’re 100% right. That's just how it goes, life happens, and sometimes you change so much that you don't even recognize yourself anymore, and that old version of you is just gone. It takes a whole lot of courage to own up to it and try to find your way back to who you used to be...

I feel like my post is coming off as negative right now, which totally wasn't my intention at all... I was honestly just wondering if I should be bracing myself for what's coming or not 😁. I really don't care for politics and would much rather not have it bleeding into our discussions here on the forum either 😁
. But hey, if everyone else is enjoying the topic, then fine by me! Those who aren't just going to have to deal with it
.
But seriously, why does it always have to be about politics? 😁 😁

It’s really not about how much everyone else is throwing your way, it’s all about what you’re willing to put in yourself, so if you're only giving three or four, then that's just where you're at... 😁
