AF is actually a pretty decent pick. Maybe the issue lies elsewhere in the lineup.

I'm on the same page. If you look back at my previous posts, you'll see I never actually suggested we need to bring in RATM—that's just wishful thinking on my part. I wasn't saying we need these massive, overpriced acts either. There are plenty of cheaper bands that are worth seeing instead of these overhyped names. They could have easily booked Shunk, Korn, Apocaliptyac, Manu Chao, ADF, Flogging Molly, Pendulum Live, or many others I don't follow closely enough to name... all of whom happen to be touring the US this summer. Then you've got the likes of Foo Fighters, Disturbed, Limp Bizkit, Dream Theater, and Guano Apes... all of whom are playing around the States right now.
Arthur Garcia59 said:Arcade Fire actually outshone both System of a Down and Rage Against the Machine—and maybe even RHCP. They aren't quite at the level of U2 or AC/DC yet, but they're getting there. By booking them, they proved they can snag the most sought-after headliner of the summer. As for Gentleman and Cypress Hill, I guess they showed that those acts just don't really fit a major serious festival. That whole Kraftwerk/Moby/N.E.R.D. combo was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. 😢

So, regarding this Arcade Fire talk—I’m hearing about them for the first time now, mostly just because you claimed they’re better than RATM. Honestly, I have no idea what you're talking about. You're comparing a one-hit wonder band that people will likely forget by next year (think along the lines of Franz Ferdinand or Kaiser Chiefs, though I did catch both of them live) to legends like Rage Against the Machine or System of a Down. Those guys sell out massive reunion tours and have hundreds of thousands of die-hard fans, especially RATM. And yeah, RATM was actually the top choice for Lollapalooza fans last year, and since the organizers couldn't make it happen, they're basically the main target for Coachella now... if not already.
P.S. For me, the absolute peak lineup had to be The Prodigy, Serj Tankian, and ADF..
I suppose we can all agree that you just can't put Nick Cave or Arcade Fire in the same league as heavyweights like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, System of a Down, U2, AC/DC, or Rage Against the Machine... though personally, I've never been much for the Red Hot Chili Peppers or U2 myself. I guess I just don't understand why American festivals seem to lean so heavily into the underground scene. You have things like the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival focusing on indie, or Hartera leaning into electro... but at the end of the day, it feels like there's only a few thousand Americans and Canadians actually tuning in. I wonder why they don't aim higher, maybe with something like a massive World Fest. What was missing for acts like The Prodigy, Serj Tankian, or Franz Ferdinand? They might not be the absolute pinnacle of the music scene, but they're certainly on the right track somewhere.
Lollapalooza doesn't book acts like this even if they were willing to play at 1:00 PM, though I guess there are exceptions, like maybe Mastodon. If you actually look at their lineup over the last seven years... P.S. I really don't want to go off-topic anymore so I won't dwell on it, I just wanted to point out that these are all pretty "small" bands. Where are the "A-list" headliners?
David Sullivan4 said:Three years ago, this camp was basically just an open field for tents. Now, they’ve got hot showers, restrooms, electricity, Wi-Fi, secure storage, and a bunch of other amenities. I suppose any decent festival that provides actual infrastructure within its camping area—think Coachella or Lollapalooza—is going to charge for those perks. It makes sense; the organizers have to pay someone to maintain all that equipment and service.

Lollapalooza offers all of that, plus charging stations and they even broadcasted the World Cup on a massive video wall last year, and the whole thing is free!

I'd bet anything that claim was pulled straight from some random fitness subreddit.
What studies actually confirmed this?
Guys, seriously, just relax and stop splitting hairs over every little detail!

Well, I was quoting! If I had the scientific proof myself, I wouldn't be asking, right? And when it comes to my training and diet, I'm pretty laid back—otherwise, I'd probably see much better results 😁it's just that I can't afford to be so sore that I can't even get out of bed for work the next day...

I’ve heard people talk about how contrast showers can actually help, though personally, I usually just reach for Advil when things get rough. 😁 Still, I suppose it might be better to avoid unnecessary medication if I can, so maybe I'll give the contrast shower thing a shot next time I'm dealing with some inflammation.

@ Paul Baker29: That’s a decent enough answer 👍 thanks
I was actually thinking about something more specific. I found this quote on another forum: "One thing that's crucial—avoid dairy altogether. It supposedly increases lactic acid buildup in the muscles, and if you have more lactic acid, the inflammation just hangs around longer..." I guess I'm wondering if there's any truth to that, or if you know anything about the science behind it?
P.S. My current plan: hit some MuscleTech after training, then follow it up with some whey mixed with milk 😁

I haven't been keeping up with all the back-and-forth in these threads lately, but one thing has been on my mind. I came across some claim somewhere suggesting you shouldn't drink milk after hitting the gym. Personally, I’d much rather mix my whey with milk and some oats than deal with plain water. I guess I'm just wondering why people advise against using milk, and what your take is on the whole thing?

Chloe Green61 said:Bringing in Disturbed just doesn't make sense; I mean, maybe 80% of their listeners have actually seen them live in the last three years😁

There’s some truth to that, though in my experience, maybe only about 3,500 people here have actually caught them live—like during those two Boogaloo shows—even if I suspect way more people listen to them. But that’s beside the point, I suppose. They’re a solid rock band and they were available at the time. Personally, I think bringing in Primus would have fit the overall vibe much better, but I guess they were already busy finishing up their European tour.
I mean, if they just threw Disturbed on the bill alongside Mastodon (they haven't been around here in two years anyway, and they're constantly playing all those big festivals across Europe 😁), it might actually be worth the trip... plus, there are plenty of other solid, affordable bands playing in the area around that time..
I suppose everyone has their own specific taste in music. Regarding Jamiroquai, I definitely agree with you; no matter how many of his tracks I listen to, they just never seem to click for me. 🤷
However, I wasn't aiming my comment specifically at you, but rather at the general forum community—especially those who tend to gravitate toward a heavier rock sound. 👍
Just a quick heads-up for anyone currently typing Mastodon into YouTube for the first time: they aren't really the kind of band you'll fall in love with on the first or even second listen. It might take closer to a hundred spins before it clicks. I’d suggest being patient—just download an album and listen to it from start to finish. Their records are highly conceptual, almost as if the entire album functions as one continuous song. The music is admittedly quite "heavy" going in, but once it finally settles in your ears, 🙏 they become, in my opinion, the most powerful new metal band out there, right up there with Disturbed.

I've been looking forward to this for a while; I missed out on them last time, but there is absolutely no way I'm letting this chance slip by now.😁
