Gregory Harris8 said:Labeling any expression of dissent as mere "jealousy" is perhaps the most pervasive pseudo-argument on this online forum. It serves as a convenient crutch for those who lack the actual mental capacity to construct a coherent, valid counter-argument.

I tend to take my own approach to these things. When I find myself genuinely repulsed by—or even just deeply unimpressed by—something someone else owns, I generally choose to keep my mouth shut. I defend my position through silence, primarily for the exact reason you mentioned: it’s far too easy to be mislabeled as being driven by jealousy. You even admitted that you're used to being treated that way, yet here you are, continuing exactly as you always have. Honestly, I have to hand it to you.

I won’t even dignify your intellectual capacity with a comment—after all, having unlimited bandwidth is entirely wasted if you choose to spend it exclusively on spitting venom. Your terminology, and that goes beyond our direct dialogue, reeks of pure frustration. Honestly, where else would someone like you find a better outlet for spreading such bitterness than an anonymous online forum?

Look, I’ll admit the festival wasn't exactly flawless. However, if you aren't capable of extracting even a shred of positivity from the experience—and I certainly managed to find plenty in the company I kept, the overall vibe, seeing Grinderman, the beauty of Central Park, and even the surprisingly perfect weather—then I have a suggestion. If you truly found the entire ordeal that miserable, perhaps next time you should just stay home.

🤷

Gregory Harris8 said:And what exactly am I supposed to be jealous of? The fact that his covers were completely ruined by some tacky autographs from a man I care about so little that I couldn't even bring myself to watch the first forty-five minutes of his set? And honestly, should I even feel bad about missing it?

Not at all. It’s simply a matter of taste and nothing more, and I certainly respect that.

I find myself wondering whether we are witnessing simple envy, some sort of aimless rebellion, or perhaps something else entirely. I honestly can’t—nor do I particularly care to—figure out what specific insecurities drive you to bite at other people's interests and genuine happiness with such relentless fury and disparagement. It’s like watching a Doberman snap at nothing; I simply cannot wrap my head around it.

Gregory Harris8 said:Idolatry has never really been my thing, so honestly, scoring an autograph from Nick Cave impresses me about as much as getting one from Maja Morales.

I wouldn't call myself an autograph hunter, per se, but Nick Cave has always occupied a singular space at the very top of my list of inspirations. He is such a multifaceted and incomparable artist; having his signature in my collection is something I truly treasure.

I will reiterate: it is simply a matter of taste.

It’s good that you shared this with us 👍 I would feel exactly the same way if I were in your shoes! Some of these comments are honestly nothing more than a reason for a collective facepalm. Just look at how "someone" completely "trashed" your albums 🙏

Thanks! 😉

I am not actually upset; my experiences on this forum have generally been quite positive, but one can find landmines everywhere.

I didn't share this to impress anyone or—heaven forbid—to cause an uproar (after all, I don't even know anyone here, for starters). A few days ago, I initiated a conversation by asking the veterans if it was even possible to track down an autograph, and today I simply wanted to bring that same discussion to a close in this manner.

🙂

Gregory Harris8 said:Well, look, if you’re going to air your private business in front of everyone, expect comments—and surprisingly, not all of them will be positive. If you aren't prepared to accept negative feedback alongside the praise, then you shouldn't be doing it. It’s very simple.

Private business? Just read the thread title. How much did I actually overshare, and exactly how "official" am I supposed to be?

😕

It wouldn't be much of a world if we all liked the exact same things, so I certainly didn't come here fishing for compliments or standing ovations. My primary goal was to gather information, followed by (ideally) pleasant, rational, and civilized discussions regarding our shared interests.

And if your conscience and upbringing allow you to express yourself in the manner you persistently do here, then any discussion immediately ceases to be pleasant, rational, or civilized.

In any case, when someone like that directs bitter criticism my way, it only makes me more satisfied with having achieved my goal.

Nicholas Walker3 said:Everyone does it... even a child wouldn't relish being the target of someone else's jealousy...

Could you please quote me specifically regarding this point? 😲

I can settle this matter quite efficiently: personally, I am devoid of envy (to whatever extent that is possible), and I have no desire to provoke it in others, nor do I celebrate it—rather, I despise it.

Had I realized that I would spark such debates (with the exceptions of Burning Man and analogbadger5), I wouldn't have posted anything on this online forum, neither before the festival, and certainly not after.

🤦
analogbadger5 said:How on earth did you manage to snag one? Did you actually witness the signing in person, or did you just hand off some albums to someone else to get them autographed for you?

Well, there's that... One of the conditions was that I’d have to watch my mouth later on, which is something I am more than capable of doing myself. 🤷 It really wouldn't be right for me to go back on my word now, especially considering I owe a significant favor to the crew.

That being said, just to clear the air and dispel any lingering suspicions: I was *not* some obsessive groupie. 😁

Nicholas Walker3 said:Everything else seems fine, but if we’re going to include signatures, I’d argue they should be placed on the inner lining of the packaging—at least, that’s my preference. It would allow their original design vision to remain completely untouched and pristine. 👍

Of course. 🙂

The reason I’m looking for them in this specific way is that I intend to arrange them inside a display cabinet alongside a bracelet, some markers, and a few photos. It’s my little ritual—curating a collection of travel mementos and similar trivialities into a single display.

Every dog has its day, or so the old saying goes. 🤷

Gregory Harris8 said:Yeah, and now he's gone and made a mess of them too...

I used to listen to stuff like this about 15 years ago back in middle school, usually whenever I'd get something cool like a new pair of Nikes or something. 😬

No matter how you look at it:

1) Please don't worry about me—the CDs still work perfectly fine, and I'm currently spending my entire Saturday listening to them. 😉

2) I clearly had a positive influence on you; you've managed to connect two separate posts without resorting to swearing at the organizers. 👍
Gregory Harris8 said:Honestly, I would never let anyone mess with my album covers, especially with such hideous handwriting on the autographs.

🤣

Particularly if that "anyone" is essentially the person who created those albums in the first place. 🤣

It would be quite something. 🙂
briskhawk40 said:I haven't made it to Coachella yet, so I have a somewhat practical—if slightly naive—question. Is there any realistic chance (assuming extreme luck, or perhaps some divine intervention) that I might actually snag an autograph from someone in The White Stripes? Or should those of us heading there just abandon all hope and leave our CD sleeves at home?

A few friends managed to track down Ellis in Vienna, so I’m curious to know what the vibe is like at the Santa Monica Pier.

🙂

Susan Jones91 said:Regardless of whether you get an autograph or not, it's going to be fun, fun, fun! 🙂

briskhawk40 said:Oh, absolutely, though having a Caveov signature on a The White Stripes album would certainly be a welcome bonus and a lasting memento. 🙂

Vamos. 😎

Oh, absolutely. Though, I have to admit, having a Caveov signature on my Grinderman records would be quite the little bonus and a great keepsake. 🙂
I haven't actually attended the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival yet, so I have a somewhat practical—if perhaps slightly ridiculous—question. Is there any realistic chance (assuming extreme luck, or maybe even some heavy bribery) that I might manage to snag an autograph from someone in Grinderman? Or should those of us making our debut just abandon all hope and save ourselves the trouble of carrying around CD sleeves?

What on earth am I supposed to do until then? 🤷

I found myself asking the exact same thing.

One potential way to kill the time might be hunting down Nick Cave to see if he'll sign some CDs.
