Thomas Hayes said:I honestly prefer movies like Marathon Man or Spy Game; looking back at that trilogy by Woody Allen, I’d say that particular film is definitely the weakest link for me.

Personally, I think it's great—it cracks me up every single time I watch it.

this is easily one of my all-time favorites, right up there with some classic American comedies like Groundhog Day

who knows, man

I wasn't really a fan of it myself,

and I suppose I might be the only one who felt that way.

Terry Wilson5 said:I was just sitting here thinking about *L.A. Confidential* and how it holds up, because honestly, it’s one of those rare films that feels even better every time you revisit it. There is something so incredibly immersive about the way they captured that specific era of Los Angeles—it wasn't just a backdrop; it felt like a living, breathing character in the story. You really get lost in that gritty, neon-soaked atmosphere where everyone seems to have a secret and nobody is quite who they claim to be. The layers of corruption and the intricate web of police politics make it such a gripping watch. It’s not just your standard crime thriller; it’s a deep dive into the moral gray areas that define much of classic noir. I always find myself admiring the screenplay, too. It manages to juggle so many different perspectives and plot threads without ever losing its momentum or feeling cluttered. It’s a masterclass in pacing. I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but sometimes modern thrillers feel a bit rushed or overly reliant on jump scares, whereas a movie like this relies entirely on tension, dialogue, and character development. It stays with you long after the credits roll. It’s definitely one of those films I’ll keep coming back to whenever I need a reminder of what great filmmaking looks like.
Honestly, this might be the most intense movie I’ve seen in the last fifteen years. If you decide to check it out, just a heads-up: the sequel is just as brutal as the original, so you definitely need to watch the first one before diving into the second.
I sometimes wonder just how far a person can actually be pushed before they completely lose it. How much can someone truly be broken or unsettled by life?

I think I'm actually going to check that out; it looks pretty solid.
Thomas Hayes said:I was just scrolling through IMDb and stumbled upon the page for *L.A. Confidential*. Honestly, looking at it again really makes me wonder why more modern neo-noirs don't capture that specific kind of lightning in a bottle. It’s one of those rare films where everything just clicks—the atmosphere, the tension, and that gritty, sun-drenched corruption that feels so uniquely American. There’s something about the way they handled the layers of mystery; it wasn't just a simple "whodunit," but a deep dive into how power and reputation can rot a city from the inside out. I remember watching it for the first time and being completely floored by the pacing. It doesn't rush you, but it never lets you get comfortable either. It’s got that heavy, cinematic weight that stays with you long after the credits roll. I know some people find the complexity a bit much if they aren't paying close attention, but I think that's actually its greatest strength. You have to earn that payoff. It’s definitely a benchmark for the genre, and every time I see it pop up in my recommendations, I find myself leaning in a little closer.

I don't know, I felt like that one was just kind of mediocre to me.

I'll go ahead and pass this one along to you

It’s honestly such a solid horror slasher from the brilliant mind of M. Night Shyamalan

They really need to realize who they're dealing with

Maraš, Maraš, you can never get the upper hand on him
Maraš, you have to come up with a plan in a split second
Maraš, Maraš, he's practically running this whole city!

😕
Who even are these people?
Rachel Evans94 said:Actually, you don't really know what you're talking about, but I have to admit, reading your posts is pretty entertaining.

That’s a spot-on observation and a pretty fair evaluation if you ask me.

Well, I mean, that's just how you come across to me... I really don't mean any offense by it.

I mean, you're just one of those salt-of-the-earth, everyday Americans, just like him.
Hey, I was actually rewatching Devil again yesterday 🙏
Rachel Evans94 said:I actually really enjoy those gritty war movies, but Sergio doesn't touch them, so I guess we aren't exactly on the same page.

He’s all about those big Hollywood blockbusters, whereas my taste leans much more toward indie cinema and international films.

You love the simple, down-to-earth stuff, you aren't really a movie buff, and a few other things... honestly, you two are practically twins.
You both just enjoy a cold beer.
