Are we seriously seeing some kind of overlapping mess between the staccato beats and the exclamation points here!?!? 🙂
Nero BURNS (ENG) @ Spunk, Friday 8/17 in Music ·
I can't even get to it myself, I'm stuck out in the middle of nowhere, some tiny town in rural Nebraska... 😠

😬

Good grief, you people have absolutely lost it... 🤣 🤣 🙏 🤣

rustymaker60 said:So, I finally sat down and finished the whole movie yesterday. Jack Black is great and all, but honestly, the film itself is just pretty mediocre overall. 😢
(it’s probably only worth watching for that one scene with the devil, and even then, I don't know...)

It's really not worth it if you've already seen the tribute music video, where they actually made everything way more entertaining...

..hmm, I was actually pretty stoked when their first album dropped, but man, that movie was a massive letdown. Like, it’s just incredibly stupid... 😛

I mean, "Been Caught Stealing" is such a killer track... 😬
The rest of it? Honestly, just total filler. 😛

Formed back in '94 over in San Diego, Scholtz released their third album as a tribute to our beloved leader // keeping pace with the times // dedicated to everyone who follows him and honestly, they’re easily one of the best punk bands in the States.

If I had to pick a favorite from their discography, it’d be the second one... I don't actually own the first album, so I haven't really given it a listen. Is it any good?

Anyway, let's see some photos from that massive show in NYC 😬
Here’s a shot of my shirt, though the folks from that first link wouldn't let me walk around showing it off properly:

...NMN absolutely crushed it the other night.
My college buddy was busy scribbling down the setlist, Kyle Jackson54 was grabbing a Tom Petty pick, and I managed to snag an Ausfahrt t-shirt.
We spent the whole show right up against the barricade in the front row; Kyle Jackson54 actually caught some footage where you can skip through to find the best parts, and vividcanyon2, don't be stingy—send over those photos! 🙂
They played about six or seven tracks from the latest album, but they dusted off some old classics too, like "The River," "The Tower," and "I'm an Asshole"... I even asked my friend to write out the full setlist for me later. 😉
The only real bummer was that the promoters wouldn't let them play the encore... 🙂

Still, man, it was an incredible show!

Check out this shirt:

It looks way better in person. 😬
The Borgs aren't going to be making an appearance in San Francisco anytime soon... 😢
Anyway, you guys should still swing by if you can. 👋

..as long as those Canadian grandmas stay safe and sound.. 🙂
The other dinosaur (not 😬 stormyviper11, but this guy 😍
) might actually hit up the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival if it’s just going to be a bunch of Canadian grandpas there. Honestly, if there are some trans folks showing up too, even better—it gives me more to gossip about
... ..I'll give you all a heads-up once people start crying all over town and when the ticket prices and locations are finally sorted out
. Right now, the city is just plastered with posters for Rambá, which is playing at the same spot this weekend. Once that's wrapped up, I guess the promo for this one will finally kick in
.
I might also reach out regarding accommodations, depending on how many of my buddies end up being in San Francisco on the day of the show 👍

After listening to it maybe five times, I honestly thought Peek-A-Boo was a total disaster.
But then, things started to shift...

Now, I think it's phenomenal, much like pretty much 90% of that entire album. 🎉

So, does anyone happen to have a copy of "The Complete Truth About Devolution" lying around?
I'd love to get my hands on it.
I'm thinking about picking up the original once I've managed to scrape enough cash together... 🙂

Nicholas Perez33 said:You don't even need the greatest hits collection. Just grab the first three albums and call it a day... ☕

If you’re telling me that stuff like "that's good," "big mess," "Beautiful World," "love without anger," "shout," "don't rescue me," "through being cool," "peek-a-boo," or even "explosions" aren't considered positive things, then I honestly don't know what to tell you... we might just be living in different realities... 🙂

Honestly, I think that whole "Smart Patrol / Mr. DNA" concept is pure genius... easily one of the smartest things I’ve seen in a long time... 🙏 🙏 🙏
Deva is clearly operating at their absolute peak here. Honestly, that one track is just leagues above everything else on the second album... 🙏

There’s an incredible live version up on YouTube right now... you should definitely check it out if you have a second...

Deva 2.0 is honestly pretty great. In some spots, the music actually hits harder than the original stuff, though I find myself skipping those two new tracks—winner and cyclops—every single time. The female vocals aren't bad, but my heart still belongs to Mark and Gary.😎
"Big Mess" on the Deva 2.0 album actually sounds better to me than the original version (🙏), even if I’m still totally obsessed with the one featuring "oh no, it's Deva!"

And then there are those of you who refuse to admit NTS was actually good after their third album... well... 👎
Take this for example: just watch the music video for "Love Without Anger" and then try to tell me it’s a bad track... either you’re deaf or you’re just one of those blind guitar fanatics. That’s it. 😈

stormyviper11 said:Devo is just a band that progressively went further and further up their own ass with every single album, starting right from the jump, because even those later-released demos sound better than Enovi just messing around trying to mimic their vibe.

Well, I'm obviously not going to agree with that...
The demos aren't terrible, sure, but I honestly think punk was pretty vital to the Deva identity—they definitely picked up the pace, too. Just look at the "be stiff" demo versus the version on the first EP: the EP version is way faster and, frankly, much, much better...

Enovi's production didn't exactly do them any favors, but I've read enough to know they weren't really allowed to mess with the sound too much, so things could have easily been even worse... 😉

And honestly, anyone who thinks Deva has been on some endless downward spiral is just being a boring, typical guitar fascist... 😈

driftingcrane13 said:Are those the guys whose track was covered by Rage Against the Machine for "Beautiful World"... because man, that song is absolutely killer...🙂

Yeah, they basically took the whole thing, ground it down, and chopped it up until all that was left were these tiny little fragments of silent screams...
Actually, things are looking a whole lot more lively than I expected...

Speaking of covers, you know, Kurt and Nirvana did that version of "Turnaround," and honestly, the cover sounds just as incredible as the original track...

Honestly,
man's stuff was a million times better than that awful Strummer's Streetcore mess, but I won't get on that tangent with you all...😬
I mean, Hearts of Oak and Shake the Sheets are beautiful albums, truly, but his falsetto starts to grate on my nerves if I listen to them too many times in a row.
I haven't picked up a new album yet. Not yet. But if you're reading this, you probably already know what I need to be doing...🙂
