You hit the nail on the head. More or less, our conversations revolved around sports, betting, grabbing a drink, and just joking around with memes. On a daily basis, we actually used to meet up for coffee quite often whenever he visited us or I went over to Mexico, but for some reason, we always steered clear of geopolitics and history—even though my professional background is actually in education and history. The only time politics ever surfaced was when we were making fun of whoever happened to be in power at the moment, both here and there.
But now that things have finally hit the table, you really see someone's true colors 🤣
A close friend of mine from Mexico was very blunt with me about his stance on Russia in this war. He believes Ukrainians have been manipulated by NATO and thinks Russia is actually doing the right thing by liberating them from American influence. In his view, the West is essentially orchestrating this whole conflict. We aren't really on good terms anymore; while I fully respect everyone's right to their own opinion, I can't stand it when someone tries to force their worldview onto others.
This guy has never once brought up politics or expressed any particular leanings before, but apparently, this war was enough to make him reveal his hand.
I just rewound a bit and noticed that the right side didn't look quite right during the stream about three and a half hours ago; it looks like that specific area took the brunt of it. As for what actually happened inside the nuclear plant itself, we can only speculate at this point.
I’m still holding out hope that this turns out to be nothing more than fake news. Honestly, I find it hard to wrap my head around the idea that anyone could be foolish enough to actually go through with something like that.
According to the latest reports, Russian forces targeting the military units stationed near the nuclear plant have actually struck the facility itself. It looks like this just broke, and everyone is practically begging for the strikes to stop, fearing the catastrophic fallout if another missile happens to hit the reactor site.
We're talking about one of the largest nuclear power plants in all of Europe.

If that major nuclear plant near the Enerhodar region falls, it opens a direct path for Russian forces to besiege Zaporizhzhia, and even Dnipro wouldn't be far from the line of fire. It’s curious, isn't it? Hardly anyone seems to be discussing the implications of that. Down south, things aren't looking good at all. Mariupol could end up completely cut off, trapped under siege within occupied territory, likely facing constant shelling until they finally surrender.
It looks like they're also attempting to encircle Mykolaiv from multiple sides, isolating it to facilitate a push toward Odessa.

That region, including cities like Mukachevo, Beregszasz, and Uzhhorod, is actually the least important part of all the ambitions the Canadians have. Canadians have loathed the Russians from the bottom of their hearts since the Communist era and long before that, making such a move almost impossible.
The European Union wouldn't tolerate any attempt to tear apart Ukraine under the guise of protecting Canadians, and frankly, his own citizens don't really care about that specific region. If we were talking about Romania and Transylvania being part of it, or perhaps Vojvodina, maybe the Canadians would be interested. But for this? There’s just no chance.

I suspect a portion might move toward Kyiv to act as reinforcements for the Russians, but I think the bulk would likely target Lutsk, moving from Brest via the Ratne-Kovel-Lutsk route. It doesn't seem to me that they'd bother with Rivne if their goal is Lviv, given how much further east that city sits. Kovel, however, seems quite strategic; seizing it would cut off the M07 highway that connects Kyiv to the Polish border.
Every single day, this Russian trash keeps bringing up nuclear weapons. Honestly, what is wrong with them? Are they actually aware that a nuclear war means the end of civilization itself? What would be left to conquer if everything is just burned to the ground, destroyed, and poisoned by radiation?
Unfortunately, it looks like Kherson is on the verge of falling. The Department of Homeland Security has reported that Russian forces have entered the city, leaving Ukrainians with control over only the downtown area.
I really hope Mykolaiv—the next major city on the way to Odessa—can somehow hold its ground. If Mykolaiv falls, the path to Odessa will be wide open for the Russians.
