The start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (Part 1) in War in Ukraine ·
Looks like there's plenty of rotten Western attitudes floating around here—whatever.

We’re seeing the start of a new East versus West divide, and the winner is pretty obvious.
We're entering a new era.
Mandatory pension funds: What are your thoughts? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
placidmaker6 said:Depends on how much longer you plan on sticking around. If you make it another 20 years, you’ll probably see about half that amount, assuming a gross pension of roughly $1333. But if you live to be 100? You'll get the whole thing.

Let’s be real—I'm not hitting 100 with this line of work. I've still got 30 years of grinding ahead of me. A buddy of mine over in Germany pulls in €2,600 net, and his pension contribution is €600. It’s a joke—straight up robbery. I'm not handing my cash over to any "pillars" or retirement schemes, and I sure as hell don't expect anyone to hand me anything either.

Out of that total, only about $0.33 goes toward your individual retirement account, while more than $3,000 is diverted to Social Security to cover current retirees.

Besides, isn't it true that salaries at those government agencies are largely subsidized by the taxes we pay working in the private sector?

This is even worse. Where do they get the nerve for such a ruthless robbery? I work day and night just for them to casually snatch $4,500. I'm not interested in paying for anyone else's retirement, nor do I want anyone contributing to mine when I finally retire. Just give me my own hard-earned money—I know how to manage it better than they ever will.

Out of my gross pay, anywhere from $4,000 up to $1500 goes straight into mandatory retirement funds every single month. What kind of robbery is that? We’re talking about pumping over $2 million into this system over a 40-year career. How much of that actually comes back to me when I retire? My take-home is around $13k or $14k—working for a government agency, obviously. I don't want to give these thieves a single cent. It’s shameful. How long are they going to keep bleeding us dry? Is there even a way to screw them back?

Hey, I'm looking for a laptop. Most of my work happens in an office setting, though I'll be using it to stream movies too. Needs to have a 17-inch screen.

Thanks, 🙂

Thanks for the input, everyone—shout out to the guys suggesting the Q8200, haha.

If I end up buying a new rig—which, honestly, is looking more likely by the day—I’d probably just hang onto my old HDD. Might swap the case too, but it’s an mATX case, so who knows if everything will even fit?

Still, my wallet might take a bit of a hit at $833 :P

Looking at about $3,000—and that’s without an HDD. For a starter setup, I was thinking of just grabbing something like a GTX 650 to get by, then moving it over to a new rig down the road. Is that actually a decent plan or am I just wasting my time?

Hey, I’m looking to upgrade my GPU a bit—just enough so I can actually run some shooters without everything lagging out on standard settings.

Motherboard: ASUS P5KPL-AM
Check out this ASUS P5KPL-AM motherboard. Just dropping the link here for anyone actually looking for specs.

CPU: Q8200
GPU: GTX 220 1GB
RAM: 2x 1GB

Is it even worth grabbing a GTX 650 2GB and maybe some 2x2GB DDR2 for this rig—or am I better off just biting the bullet and buying a new PC?

Hey. So, I’ve already got a Bet365 account, but now I'm thinking about opening a second one over at Betfair since their odds are usually way higher. Aside from mostly sticking to singles, is there any other catch? Should I actually pull the trigger and play there? Speak up now or stay silent forever. 😁

Ended up grabbing a Samsung ML-1660 laser printer for $165 😁

My HP OfficeJet finally gave up the ghost. It actually served me pretty well for a few years, but after constant use, it just bit the dust. So now
I’m looking to pick up a cheaper inkjet at Staples or wherever the hell has the best deals—ideally under $200$100. Anyone know of a reliable model out there that actually prints decent results and has ink you can find easily at a local CVS or Walmart? Thanks.
