I grabbed it at ADM for about $67, though I think they've dropped the price since then. I'm going to give this one a shot with the cappuccino 🤣, and if it actually performs well, I'll probably just go ahead and pull the trigger on the one from Protis
The distance is about 100 meters, but there's a building standing in the way... would an omnidirectional antenna that picks up 360° actually be a good move here?
So, I’ve got a weird situation here. When I’m on my PC wired directly into the router via Ethernet, the speeds are decent—around 4 Mbps, which means I'm pulling about 490 KB/s. But as soon as I switch over to the Wi-Fi, the speed drops significantly to roughly 200 KB/s... plus, when I check the connection status, it claims the actual link speed is only 1 or 2 Mbps.
I’m not entirely sure if this is the right sub for this kind of thing, so if I’ve posted in the wrong section, mods, please feel free to move this elsewhere... Basically, I’m using an AirLive WL-1700 USB wireless card, and it came with a 5dB antenna. The issue is that while the antenna does a decent job of picking up the signal from my router—which is located quite a distance away—the actual speeds are terrible. I’ll show four bars of signal strength, but then the speed drops down to something like 2 Mbps. I’m looking to pick up a more powerful antenna to reach $100, so I was hoping for some recommendations. I saw something about a 24dB grid antenna $97 online, but I'm wondering if that's actually worth the investment or if there's a better way to go about it?
It uses DDR2 memory, which makes it cheaper $33 than the NVIDIA GeForce FX series, but performance-wise, it’s definitely worse
I'm trying to figure out the actual difference between an NVIDIA GeForce FX series and an X1650 at HG spot, since there's a sale going on right now and I might just grab one.
Give me Brawn GP over Ferrari any day.
When is the release date this

And honestly, who cares if the 9500GT has 1GB? That's just useless extra space for this setup.
It doesn't even have 1GB, it's 512MB. Look, it’s not exactly a high-end rig, but if I can't get any actual help building a PC in the desktop subforum, then what's the point?
I'm planning on putting together a pretty complex build (assuming nobody will actually step up to help me assemble it), and it’s going to feature an NVIDIA 9500. So, I wanted to get some input—is this card actually any good?

And what about Windows 7? What am I supposed to do about drivers? It’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack—there isn't anyone left actually hosting downloads for this OS. 🤷
I honestly don't think it's possible. I've been running some tests on my end, but I can't get it to work no matter what I try. That said, I'm not 100% certain myself, so I could be wrong.

You could basically call Windows 7 a major upgrade to Windows Vista.
But since I'm a Linux user, Windows 7 would have to be absolutely flawless if it ever wanted to convince me to ditch Linux.
Personally, I don't have anything against Linux... I used it for a while, but for me, Windows is just in a league of its own.

A ton of my usual programs run without a hitch, and even drivers originally designed for Windows Vista seem to work just fine. The only real hiccup I ran into was Build 7000 messing with my MP3 files, but I figure that’s an easy fix once the updates roll out. Honestly, I’m definitely making the jump to Windows 7. I'll stick with this beta until the final RTM version drops. It’s rare to find a piece of software that feels this polished while still in the beta stage.
I'm with you on that.👍🙂
I have it... So, when is Windows 7 actually dropping?
So, what you're telling me is this beta version is just going to lock everything down? And then I'll have to go out and buy new drives just to install it on those so I don't lose all my data from the hard drive?
Personally, I’m feeling pretty good about Windows 7 as it stands right now. My only real concern is whether I’ll be able to run future service pack updates on this version—since I'm currently running the Beta like everyone else—or if I'm just going to be forced to buy the final retail version once it drops.
Why on earth would anyone even think about replacing Winamp?
