Maria Barnes said:I was thinking about starting a thread called "talk a little about psychology" where everyone could drop their wishes, suggestions, or visions for the Psychology subforum, but then I realized we already have a thread with almost the exact same title.

Look, you can see for yourselves that Psychology (plus the Psych Couch) is a pretty well-organized section, but maybe you’ve got ideas to make it even better? Well, go ahead. Speak up. Everything you really want eventually comes to fruition if you ask for it.🙂

Don't be afraid to be ambitious—if you are, we'll just spin the chat off into its own dedicated thread.

I have one wise suggestion of my 🙂own.

Find Richard Nelson84 some help.

We shouldn't have one of our most active subforums (and its associated PDF) being moderated by just one guy who also happens to moderate other sections here, if I'm not mistaken.
It’s a bit sad to be stuck working all alone in the office.😬

It hit me the other day that he's flying solo, while even Trash (probably the least active PDF around here) has two mods. 🕺

What are you two even talking about? 🙂

Peter Murphy6 said:Man... Dawn hypocrisy gets deep, doesn't it? 😲
Hypocrisy.... such a fascinating topic. 🙂 Honestly, I'm just curious how an experiment like that would even be designed. 🕺

🙂
🤦
For sure. 🤣

They fit together perfectly. 🙂

Could happen, but I don't really have the brainpower to dive deep right now😬.

Peter Murphy6 said:But hey, at least he'll be happy 😬

Is there an emoji for that guy? 🎉

Or he'll just end up being a hypocrite.
Which is basically just another experiment.
An experiment within an experiment—experimentception.😱

Is there even an emoji for this guy? 🎉

Aha 🙂.
That guy and 🙂 came "bundled" together 😍.

I’ve been wondering where 504 disappeared to, haven't seen them in forever 🕺.

It makes me think about what truly goes down in the Big Brother house; no matter how much we might poke fun at the blatant sexual tension caught on camera, those contestants are really just acting out the same subconscious impulses we all possess.

I don't really watch it. I only caught the first season back when it was actually fresh and I was just in middle school 😳.
Every single time, they try to pull that line about how they aren't aware of the cameras, and every single time I think, "bullshit." Either they're genuinely unaware they're being filmed in a house specifically designed for filming, or they're just incredibly dim.
There are no excuses left, especially after this many seasons.

Peter Murphy6 said:You know what? 🕺 I had the exact same thought 🕺 😱
🙂

As for that second part—hehehe, man, they're just keeping us on our toes. I bet they've got some huge reward waiting for us at the finish line 🐔

Nah, no way.
They started talking about luck versus money, so if it turns out the winner (lol) is someone who claimed money isn't everything, they'll probably just get handed a huge windfall 🙂.
Crazy Talk Thread in Psychology ·
Solid comparison.

Honestly, that 503 error, the search engine glitching, all that... it isn't just some crappy server issue. It feels more like they're running an experiment on us😲.

It just feels like we're doing all this work without any kind of payoff at the end🤣.
At least over at BlackBerry, even the biggest idiot gets a little payout🕺.

Maria Barnes said:We aren't going to pre-define anything here. This is just an open chat. We might give it a name later once we see where this actually goes. 🙂

🤔

Fair enough.
You guys could honestly just call this the "dumpster fire thread" where you toss all the random off-topic stuff until the main discussion dies down (kind of like what happened up there). A chat isn't really a chat if people are getting deleted for saying "hey, how's it going?" and there aren't any clear guidelines on what's actually off-limits.

Matthew Cruz44 said:Dice... what’s going on here? Is there really no dedicated psycho lounge or some kind of chat room space available for us to vent in...

Brandon Lopez6, are you being serious right now—did they actually change your diagnosis?

Yeah, but not everyone hangs out there, and this whole thing started differently anyway😁.

True... I definitely relate to some of the borderline stuff (though that feels like a catch-all bucket for basically every symptom ever), but I don't have the core component. In fact, I'm pretty much the opposite when it comes to that, which is the big thing.

For now, the doctor put down Bipolar II, but we'll see how it all settles over the next few months. 🙂
Crazy Talk Thread in Psychology ·
Wow, look at you guys go!! 🙂

To be honest, my post about changing diagnoses is actually pretty important for this community, so it’d be a huge help if you guys just brought it back 🙂.

Just kidding 😁.

But seriously... could you maybe start a discussion thread or something?
Like a "spiritual psych chat." I think Joseph Bailey41 had a thread about dreams, if I remember right, but honestly, I have no clue what's going on in there; it's kind of a mess 🙂. Or whatever else, as long as it's a dedicated chat with a specific topic instead of just nothing.
(Nailed it, I'm pretty brilliant)

This is probably the closest I’ll ever get to producing a semi-normal kid. ;ponosna:😍

And yeah, honestly? I'm actually into the idea of having two separate chats. 🥳.

briskwalker10 said:Brandon Lopez6, you and Jerry Robinson56 basically think the same way—you just can't communicate with each other, which is the whole joke here. I was laughing while reading this... 🤣

But wait, what are the odds that several of your friends would kill themselves? How many people do you actually have in your circle...

Our psychoses just aren't on the same wavelength🧐.

Hold up, what are the odds that several of your friends actually took their own lives... I mean, how many people do you even have in your inner circle?

Way fewer than before? 🕺
Crazy Talk Thread in Psychology ·
Joseph Bailey41 said:Well, he didn't hold back—he basically told you straight up that you're living in a state of psychosis. 🤣

I mean, honestly, it feels that way 😳.

Personally, I’m convinced I’m dealing with some kind of hypomania or whatever, but unfortunately, I don't have any profound, deep-space insights about the battle between good and evil 🕺.
Just saying, I'm pretty dim even when I'm totally losing my mind 🙂.
Crazy Talk Thread in Psychology ·
Man... whatever you're on, I need a hit of it 😬
Crazy Talk Thread in Psychology ·
Does anyone else feel like we're all just missing the most basic concepts regarding schizophrenia? 🍿
Crazy Talk Thread in Psychology ·
I’m not gonna repeat myself since I just laid this all out a few pages back. Seriously, man, you're asking the same unoriginal questions. If you actually want the answers (and the links), just scroll back 🙂.
Crazy Talk Thread in Psychology ·
I’m pretty sure there isn't a single person out there with schizophrenia who does better by skipping their meds 🤔.

Man, we literally covered this a few pages back. Is reading that much of a struggle? 🙂

For guys dealing with schizophrenia, the suicide attempt rate hits 60%.

How can you sit there and casually claim this is easy?
Crazy Talk Thread in Psychology ·
Jerry Robinson56 said:Of course. Let us not dwell solely on this—genetically transmissible mental illness... communication breakdowns🍿
It just so happens that others haven't switched on the right light for you...
Read A Scanner Darkly... it is profoundly instructive.

How is schizophrenia diagnosed?

Diagnosis is determined through psychiatric interviews with the patient and their family members. To this day, there are no laboratory diagnostic tests for schizophrenia.

Personality collapses happen to many, nearly everyone...

The "we" is merely a construct built around genes...

Well, I hope you have a psychotic episode then.
It’s easy for you to talk big when things are simple, but people on meds? They're just weaklings who can't even control their own bodies. Total losers. ☕

Now I just need to go out and buy a diploma so I can become a religion teacher. 🤣

In my generation, most of the girls enrolling in those programs were basically lost causes. Either they started out that way, or they pivoted during their freshman or sophomore year. Some ended up joining cults. I know a girl who left that school and went straight into that sect over in the Czech Republic or Canada—the one founded by some Korean guy or some shady character... I can't recall the name, but I Googled it once and found out they had these mass weddings where hundreds of couples would marry at once. Of course, the guru would pick your spouse based on some "karma-dharma" logic. Apparently, that was supposed to bring peace to the world, but she bailed before they could marry her off, which is probably why we still don't have world peace. 😵

They have some pretty clever tactics for recruiting people into that cult... first, they approach you talking about world peace and hand you flowers or something. Then, they lure you away to some remote ranch in the middle of nowhere. After that, they spend days telling you how incredible you are, how everyone loves you, how Jesus loves you, and how special and perfect you are. Once you're hooked, they slowly start brainwashing you until you sign over all your assets to them. Quite the crowd. 😁

Mind youuu.
While the professor—who’s basically part shaman, part exorcist (but seriously, he's our best 🧐)—was rambling on about his stuff, I was just this terrified 20-year-old girl dealing with brutal panic attacks, feeling like I wasn't even from this world.

I walked into that building as a Catholic who barely practiced anything outside of an occasional prayer or celebrating Christmas, and walked out as a theistic agnostic wondering how all these grown men managed to brainwash themselves into playing the exact same loop over and over. 🤷

Jerry Robinson56 said:I am not entirely sure why, but I feel compelled to point out that you are interpreting a text that lacks any context for you. From what I can gather, Diego is struggling immensely with schizophrenia.
It is common knowledge that one can sense the body... try letting the body sense you instead; that is the true "message."
Prayer is nothing more than a placebo.

That was not my intention, so you have reached an unfavorable conclusion. We shall not dwell on trivialities like "you don't understand me"

Look, everything remains manageable until you are actually hit by something irreversible—physically. You can repair, upgrade, alter, and truly understand the psyche, provided you associate with intelligent people.
Or even if you simply spend time with yourself.
Delta Air Lines class and a grin from ear to ear.
All problems share a common denominator; the only question is how much you can reduce the numerator.
Which brings us back to mathematics and to the esteemed judolina and the reasonably evolved Joseph Bailey41
Mathematics is the only absolute truth in the space we are presented with.

P.S. I am glad the current wasn't strong enough to sweep you away 😁

Schizophrenia isn't something you "cure," it's more about maintaining a certain quality of life (which, sadly, is way below normal for some patients). A chunk of people with schizo lose their ability to work; it's such a cliché, easy, high-profile thing to talk about.
But we aren't talking about freaking panic attacks here. We're talking about a genetically transmitted mental illness, arguably the worst one out there.
(Because you're fully aware of what's happening, yet you can't help yourself during the times when you're definitely not aware.)

Joseph Bailey41 said:So, you took a class in the psychology of religion and now you're just asking nonsense instead of actually answering our questions? What a troll. 🤣

Guilty as charged.
I spent exactly two years studying religious studies 😳.
(Yeah, the same degree DoA finished 😁)

And honestly? I picked up some pretty "useful" insights along the way.
1. Mental illness is just all in the patient's head.
2. People are mentally unwell because they aren't devout enough.
3. If they prayed for a cure and nothing happened, clearly they just didn't pray hard enough. More prayer required.
4. Pills, doctors, therapy... yeah, it's all nonsense.
5. Church, church, Church, God Jesus, prayer, healing.

That’s basically the whole curriculum.
Now you're an expert too, huh? 😳

I lack the expertise regarding organic matters (carbon), though I am quite knowledgeable in a technical sense (silicon).
In any case, distortions of reality or sensing different perspectives should be limited or slowed down before they actually occur, especially when we can anticipate them based on experience... I believe that is preferable.
Given that we can learn from and recover from any disorder if one maintains consciousness, you essentially become more resilient. One should also attempt to memorize as many details or decision-making "pathways" as possible.
Attempts at calming oneself, starting with breath control (there is a useful book by a Russian author), can be quite helpful.

Reminds me of this psychology of religion professor who used to claim people are mentally ill because they don't pray enough... and then they can't get better because they aren't praying well enough. Pure logic, right?
That was the day a part of me died. Any shred of desire I had to study Religious Studies just blew away in the wind 🙂.

Still, whenever I'm feeling particularly low, I just wish all those people who jump in to lecture others on problems they've never actually lived through—which is a huge factor—could just step into my shoes for one single day. Just one of my worst days.
After that, honestly, I wouldn't give a damn what anyone thinks 😈.
