Commuting to work by bike in Cycling ·
Look, I’ve got one guy at my office who reeks so bad he actually drives a car to work. It honestly makes me want to tie him to a bicycle just to get some decent airflow around him. 😳😁

how do you freshen up or clean yourself once you actually get to the office?

At my workplace, there are quite a few eccentric characters (non-cyclists, mind you) who, for instance, use the restroom to wash their hair and things like that. They’ve actually gained a reputation within the company and have nicknames, so I’m terrified that if I show up smelling a bit ripe after my ride, I’ll end up being known as "that guy who washes up in the bathroom."

enivejz, does anyone have any constructive advice?

I wear underwear that is—as they call it nowadays—functional. The main advantage is that it dries incredibly fast and doesn't trap odors. At my firm, about 80% of the staff commutes by bike, so we're all in the same boat.😁 My hair doesn't really get sweaty because I rarely wear a helmet, except when I'm doing some off-roading.
Those tech shirts cost about $100 or more, but they truly work 🙏👍—you either arrive at work completely dry, or they just soak up every single scent.

I also carry baby wipes to hit those strategic spots. And yes, I always keep a spare shirt in my desk drawer.

Honestly, I think it's better to be known as "the guy who washes up in the restroom" than to be known as the office Tom Quote.

😂

In my opinion, you shouldn't skimp on cycling gear.

👍

I used to think synthetic fabrics were total nonsense, but now I absolutely love all this gear. It’s much more pleasant to ride like this than to lug around heavy bags.😁

Muz bikes in both the summer and the winter; if he doesn't ride for even three days, he starts feeling the itch. He's addicted.

As for me, one thing that bugs me is how my lip balm gets stuck to my mask while riding.🙄 Men don't deal with that particular nuisance, I suppose.

I don't know if it's everyone's preference, but both Muz and I regularly shave our armpits (actually, I do it more often), and it helps immensely.😉
