You don't really need synthetics for anything specific—like needing high abrasion resistance or moisture wicking for contact sports in a base layer, or that lightweight insulation ratio you want from fleece when you're hiking and carrying extra layers in your pack.
Synthetics shed easily, they don't insulate as well, and they basically act as microplastic generators for the environment.
