As far as I'm concerned, they can both stay right where they are, simmering away.😈

Is it just me?

Maybe today just isn't your lucky day🙂

I guess here are a few bands that our local club really ought to book:

1. James Chance and the Contortions, at least before things take a darker turn
2. Lightning Bolt, assuming they don't burn themselves out first
3. Trans Am, just to see if they can actually pull off that double act twice
4. Battles
5. That new band from the guy in Mclusky. I'm not quite sure what his name is or how their sound will turn out, but I have a feeling it'll be totally bitchin'😁
6. Mission of Myanmar, before Miller goes completely deaf

My top 5 musical clichés

1. That one girl from the Midwest wears denim shorts (think classic pop anthems)
2. Black artists tend to favor Black partners (it’s a common theme in R&B)
3. Monkeys causing chaos at the entrance (Bora’s track)—I guess the ASPCA hasn't filed a formal complaint about that lyric just yet!
4. Women are, well, feminine (classic rock vibes)
5. Every girl wants to kiss a sailor (standard sea shanty logic)

True, but I guess it mostly leaves everyone who didn't grow up in NYC feeling a bit left out 🙂

lonebison37 said:If we ever actually meet up, my first test for you will be seeing if you can even pronounce "Ivan Blažičko" correctly 😬

Oh, and honestly, people from the East Coast generally have no clue how to handle specific accent marks or subtle pronunciations 🙏 🙏 🙏
They usually just make excuses about being software engineers to justify skipping those details—it’s all just habit and social pressure, I guess 🙂

And man, the sentence structures they use really get to me:
"If you're gonna come over, I'll bring you a CD" (but phrased in that weirdly broken way)🙏

Well, if we're being honest, even folks from the South don't really get those distinctions either. To them, those tiny linguistic nuances are just as confusing as they are to people from Chicago. Just ask Alex Rogers91 or anyone else; it seems like nobody actually knows, but I certainly do! I always pulled straight A's on my English essays because of it. 😁

Wait, who do you mean by "us"? 🙂

I honestly don't know if they realize how unmanly they actually sound?!

Oh, I wouldn't go that far! I guess some of them might even be under the impression that they sound totally manly. 😁

Hey everyone, I know these albums are considered absolute classics, but I just can't seem to wrap my head around them:

1. Lou Reed - Berlin (The songwriting feels pretty mediocre to me, and honestly, Brian Eno's production and those orchestral arrangements are a total nightmare) 😱
2. Ramones - End of the Century (It feels like Phil Spector got lost somewhere trying to implement that Wall of Sound; maybe he improved it a bit, but the material mostly sounds like a collection of fillers)
3. That second album by Peking Duck we were talking about earlier. I think Dr. Zelig already covered everything, except perhaps for that one idiot's idea to run a flanger/phaser effect over the hi-hat and just leave it running through the entire album. It reminds me of that old fable about the mouse and the hi-hat 🙂
4. Beach Boys - Pet Sounds. Looking at it from a bird's-eye view, the arrangements are legendary and the production is top-tier, blah blah blah—but if I actually pick out individual songs, I maybe like two or three of them
5. Paraff. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's bad; it's actually quite pleasant, but I just don't find it as good as everyone else does

I left out the artists I actively dislike because, well, a list like that wouldn't really make much sense, would it? 🙂

Carol Jackson45 said:Oh, come on, how could you possibly overlook Balasevica and his subtly aggressive fanbase?

Apologies accepted! I haven't really run into any die-hard Balasevica fans yet—aside from my aunt, and we haven't managed to get into a heated argument just yet. I honestly thought they mostly just spent their time copy-pasting lyrics online...
but if you all think otherwise, please feel free to add to the list!

@Nicholas Perez33/">@@Nicholas Perez33: I have to admit, there are a handful of things I actually like about your take, but that’s beside the point. You completely crushed my attempt at being funny, and honestly, I'm hurting here. I think I deserve a public apology 😠

Ahem, let me try that again. Here is a fresh list of bands whose diehard fans seem to think it’s perfectly fine to terrorize anyone who isn't part of the inner circle*:

1. The Doors
2. Dream Theater
3. Tool
4. Queen

* - Now, I guess most hardcore fans are a bit eccentric, but these four groups really seem to stand out when it comes to their intense, almost militant aggression towards outsiders.

I personally know about four or five people like that (including Dana Anderson4, who insists she used to know how but just totally forgot!), and it seems like there might be plenty of other candidates here interested in joining such a crew.

Hmm, I'm not entirely sure if I'd qualify. The last time I hopped on one of those old-school, hippie-style rides—you know, like a pony bike!—was probably fifteen years ago...
