Rick Lee said:I'm kind of with you there... it feels like one of those polished MTV productions—it lacks soul. The songs themselves have character, but they feel separate from the production. Sound-wise, everything is crystal clear and perfectly balanced; technically, it’s an A+ student project, but it’s got no grit. Same goes for the instrument tones. There’s just this massive gap between the actual songwriting and how slick everything sounds.
To me, bands like The Strokes are the gold standard for getting production right,😉 like In Utero, Vaya, Songs for the Deaf, Pretty Hate Machine, Superunknown, or Songs About Fucking.
If they had gone with a rawer sound, I think the band would have felt way more convincing. Maybe not right out of the gate, but definitely as time went on.
😂
"Interpol with raw production"?
Give me a break.
Man, just look at the STYLE of music they play... he’d probably record this in a basement in Brooklyn.😲 🙂
The guitars NEED to be crisp... and they ARE.
The drums need to be raw enough to hit hard... and they DO.
And that muddy bass tone? It fits them perfectly, and it's EXACTLY what they've got.
So what's the issue?
What's all this "MTV" talk about?
