Did you send it as a standard package? Just regular mail or via FedEx?
I sent some sneakers yesterday (way heavier than Chucks) to Miami, registered mail. It cost me $6.25 and the box I bought at the post office was $2.00.

I've shipped a ton of stuff, and nothing for domestic shipping ever cost me more than $6.75 🤷
