What should I kill first? Honestly, looking at these processes feels like stepping back into the Windows XP era... which, okay, I guess it’s great if you’re obsessed with saving every single ounce of RAM.
This is my Vista setup... running the "speedy" version, which basically means it's been stripped down to nothing. image

Sean Perez21 said:Look, even if this Windows 7 isn't exactly cutting edge, once we hit the four or five-year mark after the final release, Microsoft is just going to roll out some shiny new version anyway... so don't sweat it...😉

And as for it eating up all that memory... who actually cares? If you're really feeling the squeeze, you'll probably just go out and buy a faster, beefier machine anyway... nobody is planning on riding the same old desktop for ten years straight...☕

When I first finished installing 7 and popped open the Task Manager... I saw 29 processes already running in the background.

Joshua Long said:So, what actually went down? Did you get some specific error message or something? When I tried this the first time, I loaded up Microsoft Office, Norton, and MSN Live Messenger, and immediately after that, my entire Windows 7 partition started throwing these constant "corrupted files" errors at me.

I couldn't even run an uninstaller or trigger a system restore, so I just wiped the whole partition clean.

A week later, I reinstalled Windows just so I could get back to playing around with things.

Absolutely nothing. Everything just froze solid. I couldn't even perform a normal restart, so I had to force it... once I booted back up, it asked if I wanted to "start Windows normally"... I said yes, it loaded, and then just sat there frozen.
I shut it down, booted into Windows XP, fired up Acronis, and just restored the Windows Vista image back onto that partition.

I'll take your word for it... because over here, the installation finally wrapped up, and now my mouse is just a useless plastic brick that won't budge an inch.

I was trying to get MSN up and running on this Beta Version, but the whole thing just hit a massive wall and completely froze up on me... everything went totally unresponsive, forced a restart, and then I'm right back where I started. Honestly, I just didn't have the patience to go hunting for what caused the error.
