I finally got it sorted out... those "new" drivers were the culprit all along. I rolled back to some older versions and

I just finished installing Windows 7, and now I’m stuck in this endless "battle" trying to get things actually working. :-)) The problem is the system isn't detecting any audio hardware whatsoever. There’s just a red 'X' over the speaker icon in the taskbar, and it claims "No Audio Output Device is installed." It’s frustrating because back when I was running Windows XP, everything worked perfectly without a single hiccup. I searched everywhere for the right drivers, eventually hunted down some new Realtek drivers specifically for Windows 7, and installed them, but still—absolutely nothing. It seems like installing software is a total waste of time if the OS refuses to even acknowledge the hardware exists in the first place. How on earth do I force the computer to recognize the audio device? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, thanks... I've already done my own digging on Google and seen the whole picture. I guess I'm just looking to pick the brain of someone who actually knows their stuff a bit better than I do. This BIOS situation is what's really giving me grief. P.S. As far as the partition goes, it's all good. ;-)

Alright, here’s what I’m running...

CPU: AMD Athlon XP, 1473 MHz (11 x 134) 1700+
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7VT600P-RZ(C)
RAM: 1.5GB DDR
BIOS Version: F5
Storage: 160GB + 320GB
Audio: Altec Lansing 5.1
GPU: RADEON 9250 128MB

I’m trying to figure out if I can jump straight from Windows XP to Windows 7 without any major headaches, or if I'm walking into a total disaster zone. Is there some specific BIOS tinkering required to make this work? Does anyone have actual advice before I pull the trigger on the installation? (And please, spare me the "just go buy a new computer" comments—I’m already planning on doing exactly that, haha...)

Thanks! :-)
