Peter Rodriguez8 said:So... here’s the thing. I finished installing Windows 7 yesterday, and I noticed that on my system partition, right alongside the new Windows, there's still all this leftover junk from my old Windows XP setup... all those old programs and files. Is it actually safe to just wipe them out? I'm getting some kind of warning message saying it might cause issues, but I don't really get what it means... It just seems silly to let 10 gigs of space sit there doing absolutely nothing... thanks

The installation process should go something like this:

1. Put your bootable Windows 7 onto a DVD-ROM (and, of course, make sure you set the boot priority in the BIOS to start from the
DVD-ROM
2. When the prompt pops up asking if you want to boot from the DVD, just click YES
3. Pick your preferred language for the install
4. Choose your regional settings... you know, things like the currency and date formats, maybe US English for simplicity
and stuff like that
5. Now, if this is a fresh Windows 7 install over an existing Windows setup, you really ought to
DELETE the partition where the old Windows used to live, then format that
partition before starting the clean installation of Windows.
Just skip entering the serial number (that 5x5 character code) for now
6. You'll need to be patient... give it about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on how fast your PC is running
7. As for loaders... well, I believe we aren't supposed to discuss those kinds of things on this forum...

I tried burning it to a DVD at a slower speed—since I downloaded the ISO online like any decent American would—and I've tried every trick in the book, but it's always the same thing... right at 27%, it just hits that same error!!!
what to do people help!

The fix is actually pretty simple if you use: Nero Burning ROM, because it lets you manually set the burn speed to 2X... that’s the sweet spot for stability.

I managed to fix the first issue by digging through Google, but this MTP one is proving to be a real headache... I just can't find exactly what I need anywhere. Has anyone else run into this specific wall?
Also, my Device Manager is showing an "Unknown Device" under Other Devices... any idea what that might be referring to?

Overall, Windows 7 feels alright, though it feels a bit silly that they ditched Quick Launch—I'm really not a fan of how they handled the taskbar now—and they took out DreamScene too...

There is a free program that fixes the Unknown Device Identifier perfectly!
