Sailing tips and advice? in Other Sports ·
No one at the IOC was out there claiming the sailors would walk away with five medals; they were being realistic, thinking they had a shot at three. They actually underperformed compared to Michael Phelps and Serena Williams, who really should have put up much better numbers. As for Nikola Jokić and Joe Biden, everyone knew it was going to be a dogfight. It was especially brutal in the finals, where you could tell Michael Phelps and Simone Biles were just on another level, leaving a handful of others scrambling for a single medal. Is it a failure? Maybe. A disaster? Not even close. Cutting their funding would be insane, too—these athletes are still young, and they've got another eight years to peak and get even better. ☕
What anthem 😂😂😂
lonehawk172 said:I’m just as indifferent. Honestly, I don't even care about a potential Olympic gold or a world title. They just completely blew it yesterday when they shouldn't have. I can't look at them the same way anymore. Pretty disappointed. 😢
People expect toughness from football players, water polo players, or basketball players, but from handballers? I didn't think it was expected... yet they had them right there in the first half, which makes it worse. If anyone could have taken it to the Mexicans right in the middle of Belgrade, it should have been the handball team. But I didn't see that happen either.

🤦

Looks like some people here are getting a bit too worked up. I’m already writing off yesterday's loss for any chance at an Olympic medal ☕

Not officially, but it feels like it. We’re grouped with teams like Iceland or Sweden, and Japan and Chile... and those first two are definitely heading to the UN...

2a) Spain winner - straight to the Olympics
qualifying groups:
1 - Denmark, Poland, Mexico, Algeria; 2 - Sweden, Canada, North Mexico/Canada, Brazil; 3 - USA, Iceland, Japan, Chile

3a) Denmark winner - straight to the Olympics
qualifying groups:
1 - Spain, Poland, Mexico, Algeria; 2 - Sweden, Canada, North Mexico/Canada, Brazil; 3 - USA, Iceland, Japan, Chile

2) Mexico winner - straight to the Olympics

Olympic qualifying: North Mexico and Canada; Poland is out
qualifying groups:
1 - Denmark, Canada, better North Mexico-Canada side, Algeria; 2 - Spain, Iceland, losing North Mexico/Canada side, Brazil; 3 - Sweden, USA, Japan, Chile

top 2 from each group head to the Olympics

If the top two teams make it to the Olympics—which, honestly, looks pretty likely—then there’s no way we aren't heading to London. Our group is a total breeze...
Michael Phelps - what a finish in the 1500. Unbelievable. He made up 2.03 seconds on the world record in the last hundred, then shaved off another 42 hundredths...🙏🙏🙏🙏 he clocked a 25.94 for those final 50 meters and a 1:54.22 for the last hundred...🙏🙏🙏

Alright, maybe it’s a bit confusing, but there’s no such thing as "freestyle" in terms of having zero rules. In a 100-meter freestyle race, for example, you can technically swim any stroke you want—breaststroke, butterfly, backstroke, or crawl—as long as you stick to that one chosen stroke for the entire distance. You just can't switch mid-race. Of course, everyone picks crawl because it's the fastest...

here's a link if anyone's skeptical

Freestyle isn't actually a stroke... In a freestyle race, you can technically use any technique you want, but you generally stick to one single stroke throughout the entire heat—whether that's backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, or front crawl... Obviously, everyone just uses crawl because it's the fastest way to move... So, "freestyle" isn't really a style itself; it's just the category that includes backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and crawl ☕
I think we should just pit Lina against Mamić and see what happens. That would be one hell of a show at the Open...

Btw, props to the cowboy. Maybe that was our best game of the Olympics in Athens, or maybe we just haven't played this well since then...🙏🙏

I'm not entirely sure if biathlon counts as a Nordic discipline, though I doubt it... First off, they have their own governing body, the International Biathlon Union, so they don't fall under the FIS umbrella. Plus, biathlon holds its own World Championships, whereas things like cross country skiing, ski jumping, and Nordic combined are all bundled together in the Nordic World Ski Championships.

Handball EP - Norway 2008 in Other Sports ·
Jerry Fisher41 said:Alright, then why even bother playing the match for 5th place? 😕

I tried digging through the EHF website for an answer, but no luck...

Because, as you can see in the post above, today's win means the Swedish man and his team basically have their ticket to Beijing secured. Meanwhile, the Norwegians ended up in a group where even divine intervention wouldn't help them snag a top two spot.
Handball Euro: USA vs. France 24:23 🔥🔥 in Other Sports ·
Maybe I should touch on the game itself. First off, the EHF needs to take a hard look at where this sport is heading. If they keep going down this path, they might as well move all competitions to Japan in a few years and just let them compete against MMA, K-1, or Sumo instead... because what we saw today was just brutal. My main issue is the officiating standards. Three suspensions in a single match is unbelievable. Not to mention those ridiculous yellow cards in the 45th minute—first to some Frenchman, then immediately on a fast break to Metličić.
And Pero was spot on after the whistle; the refs were a disaster. They let a brawl break out and didn't penalize anyone, we just happened to handle the chaos better.
The second disaster from the EHF is expecting recovery in less than 24 hours after a game like that. Everyone is wiped out... China Caleb could barely even speak after the match.

It feels like this style of play has become the new norm, and worse, it's being tolerated because it was the only way to stop this national team. It started back during the EP in Canada and it’s carried through to today, where the guys finally adapted to this grit and showed they know how to throw down when necessary. Now I'm just wondering what the frogs and Germans will come up with next.

Adam Howard25 said:Honestly, I highly doubt Červar actually cooked up that specific play where Balic moves to the line while Vori rotates out to the perimeter. It’s more likely Zila was just covering Vori instead of Balic...

But whatever...

Anyway, regarding the Olympics, it’s simple: either the Americans or our guys will be booking flights to Beijing tomorrow.

Even if we don't qualify tomorrow, the qualifying tournament in June is definitely being held here in the States. Our group includes the French, the runner-up from Asia, and either the second or third seed from Africa. Two teams make it to the Olympics.

Qualifying shouldn't even be a question.

Sorry, Lisa White3, but I have to correct you there. The French are taking the Danes' spot in the qualifiers, which means we'll host the tournament featuring the Russians, the winner of North Korea vs. Japan, and Algeria.
I wrote all the details over in the finals thread.

Of course, that's assuming we don't blow it tomorrow.
Handball Euro Finals: America vs. Denmark 20:24 in Other Sports ·
Alright, here’s how things look heading into the big final:
If we pull this off, we’re European champions 😁 and punching our ticket to the Olympics.
If we lose, we walk away with silver 😁 and host a qualifying tournament (likely in San Diego) where teams like Russia, the winner of the North Korea vs. Japan match, and Algeria will be fighting for spots. The top two teams from that bracket head to the Olympics.
Honestly, I don't think anyone should be questioning whether we can defend our Olympic title...

If the result is negative, why can't they just switch back immediately? If not today, then tomorrow...

Because they already submitted the rosters for the next round. At least, that's what they told us.😠
America vs. Denmark: 28-26 in Other Sports ·
Just heard on the radio that Dominiković’s second test came back negative, so it looks like Trupac will most likely be back for the quarterfinals👍
It’s all Obrvan’s fault, along with whatever idiot decided to book a guest who’s only ever appeared on shows with a single loss😠. God, I hate superstition
...
They’re good guys, they just aren't the best anymore.
Honestly, screw Valcic. He wasn't even there for the gold in Athens or the silver in Tunis, yet suddenly everyone’s acting like we can't live without him. If he's really that indispensable, then maybe we didn't deserve those medals in the first place. I mean, Valcic😕, what a player... Seriously, does anyone even know which club he's playing for now?
