But the second something isn't done perfectly, everyone starts screaming and throwing insults. I didn't come here to cause trouble or pick fights with anyone; I just came to get some information and ask questions when things aren't clear.

Anyway, enough about that, let's get back to the topic at hand...

edit: Can you recommend any other solid torrent sites besides Demonoid, Zamunda, or Mininova? Thanks.

I agree!
You probably already know about The Pirate Bay, but most of those sites work closely together, so you won't find much variety beyond them.

Personally, I think Windows Aero looks fantastic! Sure, it eats up system resources, but if you want it, go ahead and use it...

silentridge4 said:Hey guys, quick question
I just finished installing win 7 build 7068
Honestly, coming from Windows XP, this feels like a massive shift and I'm still trying to get my bearings
But I can't find Outlook anywhere to check my emails...
Where did they hide it? 😉

It's not there, man!
Neither is Word, Excel, or PowerPoint...
You're gonna have to wing it.

Just create a new partition, install Windows 7 alongside your current OS via dual boot, and give it a shot; if you don't like it, just wipe it

Nicholas Collins68 said:To claim that Windows 7 is nothing more than Vista with Service Pack 2 is the kind of nonsense only someone with absolutely zero understanding of operating systems would ever utter.☕

I hope you weren't aiming that at me, but fine!
I personally prefer Vista, and honestly, just seeing it on my screen leaves me absolutely floored!
It works perfectly fine for me, and honestly, it runs way faster than XP did on this same machine.
I’ve already installed both Service Pack 1 and the Service Pack 2 beta. I know there are plenty of naive fools out there who think far too poorly of Vista (but, as I said, they're just naive!).
All things considered, Windows 7 really should have been treated as nothing more than an extension of Windows Vista; if you actually take a moment to think about it, Vista was around for roughly five years, yet Windows 7 arrived only two years later. 🤣 As for the actual workflow structure—at least according to Microsoft—nothing has been changed yet. Honestly, who knows what the final version is actually going to look like?
To be honest, Vista is my top choice. I can't even look at XP anymore—no offense to the XP loyalists, though.

Long live Vista!👍

Thomas Hernandez21 said:Look, don't get mad at me, 😁 but you're saying it recognizes 4GB even though there's less actually available 😉 It’s probably showing about 3325MB. I see the exact same thing on my System Properties where it claims 4GB, yet Task Manager and all the other tools always report 3325 😉 Because, theoretically speaking, it's impossible for the OS to have the full 4GB entirely to itself 🙂

Aha, thanks. Now I finally get it! Really, thanks! I honestly thought it was using the whole thing, but I guess it's just some clever way of tricking the user... 👍

I was actually just browsing online and stumbled upon this:

It really gave me something to think about.🙂
Especially the comments—they're pretty interesting.

silentridge4 said:Oh yeah, please explain to me what these labels actually mean:
x32,x64 and x86

thanks

The terms 32-bit and 64-bit refer to how the computer's processor, known as the CPU, handles data. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows are designed to run on computers equipped with either 32-bit or 64-bit processors respectively.

64-bit versions of Windows utilize more memory than the 32-bit versions. This reduces the time needed to transfer processes to and from memory because more of those processes can be stored directly in RAM instead of being swapped to the hard drive. As a result, you get better overall program performance.
Actually, it might be better to go with x86 since it supports just about everything, whereas x64 can run into issues with certain programs. And like I said, to actually make use of every single bit in a 64-bit version, you absolutely have to have a 64-bit processor! That said, the 64-bit OS is generally "higher quality"—meaning it's more stable and, as mentioned, faster.
Bottom line: if you're into gaming and running a bunch of different software, grab the 32-bit version of the OS and you won't have any trouble.

And yeah, just like Thomas Hernandez21 mentioned, x86 doesn't always support a full 4GB of RAM. Well, not always: on my machine, which is x86 (so, 32-bit), it recognizes all 4GB—it actually shows that it sees 4GB.

Why on earth don't you have the aero effect enabled?

My take? Don't waste your energy trying to install every single new version that drops; just wait for the final release later this year and you'll be set...
Overclocking (Main Thread) in Desktops ·
What kind of temperatures can I expect from an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 during heavy workloads, like gaming? Right now, I have it clocked at 3.4GHz and while I'm playing, the temp sits around 49 degrees. I'm not really sure what my ceiling is since I haven't touched the Voltage yet—I've only bumped up the FSB. Also, something weird is happening: whenever I try to push the E8400 to 3.6GHz, the system won't boot properly. It tries to start, then immediately shuts down, repeating this cycle several times until it finally gives up and resets the BIOS to default settings. I have no idea how to fix this! Could it be an issue with my RAM? I know there are various settings available, but do I actually need to increase the Voltage to get any more overclocking out of this? Or is there something else in the BIOS I should tweak instead of just messing with that multiplier?

From what I’ve gathered, the upgrade runs smoothly and shouldn't cause any issues.

So, is there actually a way to upgrade from the Windows 7 build 7000 directly to Windows 7 rc1 without having to wipe everything and reinstall the OS? Is there some kind of update path available or what? If I’m reading this right, Windows 7 rc1 is build 7057.

Does anyone actually have a clue how the transition from beta to the final release is going to work? Like, will it be a simple paid download—similar to how some studios handle their early access stuff—or are we looking at having to reinstall everything from scratch?

Can someone give me a quick rundown on how to overclock an e8400 to 3.6 GHz via the BIOS? Once I've done that, what software should I use for testing, and for how long? Is it bad to let it run under load for extended periods? Also, which program is best for monitoring temperatures?

Everything seems to be running fine for me so far, though I have noticed that not every single application is working properly...
Windows 7 in Software ·
Is there any way to patch from 7000 to 7032 without having to redownload the entire 2-3 GB package and running through the whole installation process again? Can I just run the update alone?
Much appreciated! I ran the numbers and hit over 570W without even pushing it, so an 800W unit should be perfectly fine. I just hope the build quality holds up, but thanks again—and please excuse my impatience earlier, I'm pulling the trigger on all these orders today!
So, what now? The specs for the HD4870 state that if you're running two of them in Crossfire mode, you need at least a 600W power supply!
I'm just not sure if my Xilence 800 goes far enough. It's the gaming edition, and while it claims to be Crossfire compatible and has all the necessary connectors, I'm still second-guessing myself.
