Linda Chavez14 said:By the way, I think one of my packages got lost. It was sent on May 15th, and the tracking just stops after arriving in Indianapolis. Based on the website's timeline, it should have reached its destination by today. I guess I'm wondering if it's too early to file a claim today, and how long the whole process usually takes before the carrier decides to reimburse the value listed on the package?
Thanks in advance.

I was a bit busy so I didn't get a chance to check in sooner, but my package actually did arrive at its destination. So, I probably won't need to deal with filing a claim or any of those other procedures after all. 🙂
Thanks again to everyone for the advice. 🙂
Nicole Lee4 said:she should probably provide $3.25

maybe try checking here too if they haven't already checked at the counter http://

Thanks for this info regarding the return, I finally know exactly 🙂

Regarding checking via the website, that just doesn't work for domestic shipments. I've tried several times. I guess you just have to call their number to get any actual information. They checked for me over the phone and then again at the service counter before sending me home.
The last update they had was that the package left Indianapolis on May 15th, so it obviously got diverted somewhere along the way 🤷
Linda Williams28 said:Maybe wait until Monday at least (I usually wait about seven days before I go file a claim)...
They write up a claim first, and if they can't find it, they draft that reimbursement paper. You go sign it, then they mail it to the person who didn't receive the package, that person signs it, and it goes back to your local post office, and eventually, the money gets sent to your house... I think the whole process takes at least a week... if my memory serves me right...

Oh great, thanks so much 🙂
They told me over the phone to go file a claim today, and of course, I went to the post office in the meantime only to be sent home and told to come back Monday. It's total madness 🙂
Zachary Peterson6 said:Exactly, you pay the shipping fee and the package arrives as certified mail...

Aha, so it's not like this scenario where I pay $27.40 because I sent it COD as a package under 2kg, and then if it gets returned, I have to pay that exact same amount again? Instead, I just pay the rate for whatever the weight ends up being as a certified shipment?

Okay, I think I get it now. Thanks for clearing that up. 🙂

By the way, it looks like they lost a package I sent out. It went out on May 15th, and the tracking just disappears after it hit Indianapolis, but according to the timelines on the website, it should have reached its destination by now. I guess what I'm wondering is if it's too early to go file a claim today, and how long the whole search process usually takes before the post office decides to reimburse the value listed on the box?
Thanks in advance.
Zachary Peterson6 said:I think that's how it works🙂

I'm asking because I heard that if it gets sent back—you know, if it's cash on delivery and nobody picks it up—they make you pay the shipping costs. Now I'm just confused🤷
Zachary Peterson6 said:Yeah, it's $9.50—depending on weight—since it comes back as a recommended shipment.

Sorry to jump in here, but I was wondering about this too. 🙂
So, if I understand correctly... if I send a package via COD that weighs about 800 grams, and since it gets returned as a recommended shipment (if the person doesn't pick it up), does that mean I'd have to pay $6.25 just to get it back?
Sarah Martin41 said:I need to send something to Washington, D.C., maybe 350 grams max, and everyone keeps telling me the shipping cost is $6.75, but I've sent things weighing a whole kilo before and they were just $6.75.. So what does that mean, that weight doesn't matter? Seems off to me :/

So how would you actually ship it?
If you're sending it as a standard package, the price stays the same for anything up to 2 kg (18, or maybe $6.75).
But if you want it registered, then the price fluctuates from $3.25 (for stuff under 50 grams) up to $8.00 (for weights between 1 and 2 kilos).

For your 350 grams, a registered shipment would probably be $5.00.

There’s a calculator on the USPS website, so I guess you can always check the exact amount there 😉
Ashley Thompson93 said:So the phone is worth $133 and he won't agree to cash on delivery—basically, he doesn't want me paying when it arrives because he claims that's not how he does business. He wouldn't even give me his cell number to talk things through; he just gave me an email address that he already changed twice during the day. (It feels kind of shady to me since I have no idea who I'm actually dealing with.) What I need to know is if anyone can guarantee I'll get my money back if I wire $133 to his checking account, and how I'd prove the payment was specifically for this phone. I'm asking because I've never done anything like this before. Please, any advice? Is it worth paying upfront, or should I pass? I usually always pay COD, but he won't do it.

Once you send the money, you'll get a confirmation from the bank showing the account number and the amount, but nobody is going to guarantee you'll get your money back. If the guy is constantly switching emails and refusing to provide a real way to contact him, I'd honestly suggest staying away from him. It might not be a scam; maybe he just doesn't want to deal with the risk of someone refusing a COD package, like what Vance mentioned happened to him once. But then again, maybe it is a scam. Either way, you don't want to wire $133 only to find out later you never got the package, right?
Olivia Nelson37 said:I'm still waiting on a certified package from January 14th.

From what I understand, the USPS has specific delivery windows for certified mail. If they miss those deadlines, you're definitely entitled to some kind of compensation, and they've certainly gone past the limit here. Maybe try calling the post office to see where things got stuck?
silverangler4 said:girls, are your recommended shipments running late? 😢 my customers reached out saying they haven't arrived yet; I sent one package on Monday and another on Tuesday...

My little package is running late too. It was sent by another member on Monday, but I haven't received it yet (nor the pickup slip), so I guess it's just normal lately and there's no need to worry. Who knows, maybe they'll show up tomorrow.🙂

If you really want to, you could call the free info line at FedEx and check where they got stuck using the tracking number.
Lisa Garcia41 said:Oh, thanks 😍, it's all sorted now. I had no idea about that number. I probably would have driven all the way to the FedEx office, but this was much easier over the phone. 🙂

No problem at all. I'm just glad you got everything handled 🙂
Lisa Garcia41 said:I sent a certified envelope within Washington, D.C. on December 6th and it still hasn't arrived.
Is anyone else dealing with late deliveries right now? Maybe I should take my receipt down to the post office.
I haven't really dealt with this before. It's driving me crazy. 🙂

If you used certified mail, maybe try calling this number: 0800 303 304 (weekdays from 8 AM to 8 PM). Just give them the tracking number from your receipt and whatever else they ask for. They should be able to tell you where it got stuck and what to do next.

I actually got a package today that was sent via certified mail yesterday morning, so I guess I haven't noticed any delays yet.
Olivia Green46 said:Did anyone else send anything today? Shipping was supposed to be $12.50 but they charged me $4.75. I guess it's that Catholic Charities thing again; they seem to do that quite often.

I sent some stuff back on Thursday, and since it was solidarity week, they added an extra $0.52 to my total. I was wondering why the price seemed high, then I finally saw it on the receipt.

As for how fast things move... I sent a package via certified mail last Thursday, and by Saturday, it had already arrived at its destination.
Hannah Palmer6 said:Thanks for the replies, it’s mostly $20, which is crazy!!!

No problem 🙂 Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but everyone has their own rates.
Yeah, $20 is definitely pricey, thanks for letting me know, now we know.
Hannah Palmer6 said:My cousin in Vienna wants to mail me a dress. It isn't heavy, maybe half a pound or less. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone knows roughly how much the shipping would cost from there to the US?

Melissa Morgan77 said:About half a pound. $5.00 Recommended.

Melissa Morgan77, that price is just for domestic shipping. As for international orders, sending a registered package weighing up to half a pound from the US to Austria would be around... $20.

Hannah Palmer6 posted that it’s probably best if you just head over to the post office to check. I guess their price lists might be different.
Melissa Morgan77 said:I haven't heard if anyone actually received their package yet, though maybe not everything arrived. There isn't any proof or confirmation either that what was inside matches what was agreed upon or sent.
But how do you even prove something like missing contents? I guess they'd have to weigh it at the USPS office before it gets delivered to the recipient?

To be honest, I hadn't really thought about it, and luckily it hasn't happened to me. But on that white slip you fill out for certified mail, the back side mentions that this is one of those cases where you can claim damages. I suppose weighing it at the post office wouldn't help much since the contents could go missing during transit too. It also says the recipient or an authorized person has to file a complaint for damage or missing items immediately upon delivery. I'm not entirely sure how you'd actually go about proving it, though. 🤷
Emily Rivera83 said:How would you guys handle this...

I've sent plenty of things through the mail before, and there were never any issues. Everything always arrived on time and everyone was happy.
But recently I sent something again, and the woman didn't specify she wanted it tracked, just regular mail, so I sent it that way. It’s been almost a week now and she still hasn't received it.
Now I'm stuck in a situation where she's accusing me of scamming her, which isn't true. Honestly, everything has always gone perfectly with all the girls, both on the forums and off.
Is it possible for people at the post office to just take certain items and not deliver them, or what?

That's a messy situation. Though, maybe it'll still show up. Maybe it already arrived and she's just saying it didn't? Or maybe someone else grabbed it from her mailbox? From what I've noticed, regular mail gets lost easier because there's no insurance or compensation like there is with tracked packages if things get lost, damaged, or delayed. I just think they pay way more attention to registered shipments because of those rules. Everything I've ever sent has been tracked, mostly so nobody can claim I didn't send it or that they never got it, since there's proof for everything. I really don't know what happens with standard mail, but I'd definitely suggest only sending via tracked mail from now on, especially to people you don't know personally. Good luck.
coastalmaker2 said:By standard shipping, does she mean without tracking, like just sending it as a regular letter?

Standard shipping is basically just mailing it like a regular letter. Priority mail is a different class—it moves faster, so it gets to the destination sooner, I guess.
briskgull8 said:Hey everyone, I need a little help. I have to mail an important document to a university in Indianapolis to see if they'll accept me. I'm wondering what the best way to send it is. They just told me to use the mail, so I'm curious if I should send it via certified mail or just regular? And can I buy an envelope right there at the USPS, just pop the papers in, tell them it's certified, and be done? Or is there more to it? Also... what does "return receipt" mean when you send something certified? Thanks in advance. 😁

If it's important, I guess I would go with certified mail if I were you. At the USPS, you can just ask the clerk for an envelope and tell them you want to send it certified. You'll get a small white slip that you'll also need to fill out. On that slip, you can check a box for a "return receipt" if you want that extra service. A return receipt basically means that once they receive it at the school, you'll get some kind of confirmation back through your own mail (like a notification arriving in your mailbox) letting you know it was received. So, everything—from the envelope to the actual shipping—can be handled at the post office. They'll weigh it and charge you there. Anyway, I hope that helps... and good luck with the university application!
