Windows 7

Steven Hayes80 said:I simply could not restrain myself from weighing in on this subject, because quite frankly, Windows 7 has disappointed me to such an extent that I am still struggling to process the sheer frustration.
I have personally tested just about every iteration available, ranging from those early beta builds to the 64-bit versions once they were finally released for download.
Not everything functioned with the expected level of stability, but I held onto the naive hope that by the time the final retail version arrived, Microsoft would have smoothed out all these ridiculous kinks.
And here we are! Windows 7 Ultimate.
The installation itself proceeded without much incident.
To my genuine surprise, I found that all the drivers were easily accessible online.
However, the trouble began immediately when I attempted to install Firefox; it runs at a pace that can only be described as pathetically sluggish.
So, I decided to try Opera! Well, look at that! It actually works, albeit in a somewhat peculiar fashion! Regardless, I shall move on.
Nero, Winamp, and uTorrent all installed successfully, yet none of them seem to function with any degree of reliability. Should I even mention how uTorrent, for absolutely no discernible reason, will abruptly terminate a download and throw up some nonsensical error message? Something along the lines of "the files you are downloading cannot be completed because they are currently in use"?!
And then, quite suddenly, the entire system freezes for no apparent reason, even when there is only a single program running.
Then, naturally, it loses the wireless password settings. And so it goes, and so it goes...
For the sake of context, I should note that my machine is running a Pentium 4 with 4GB of RAM and a 256MB graphics card.
To summarize my ordeal: if I had to choose between Windows Vista and Windows 7, I would actually pick Vista, simply because it manages to perform adequately enough.
Just kidding!
I am wiping Windows entirely and making my escape to Linux!
Ubuntu!
Goodbye, Microsoft! For heaven's sake...
Greetings to everyone!!!
To begin with: run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, and it will signal to you exactly what is malfunctioning on your system. Following that, you really ought to ensure you are using a clean, legitimate version of Windows 7 that isn't riddled with bugs. In my own experience, the 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate beta version operates without any errors whatsoever. The only issue is that certain older games—Will Rock, for instance—don't run perfectly (I suppose I'm getting old), whereas some newer titles, like Crysis, run fine provided you have the latest updates.
I have noticed that Windows 7 seems to be a bit more aggressive at detecting pirated software, but aside from that, everything is fine.
