It looks to me like you’re missing some core files in your %systemroot% folder, and having an "unknown" user profile is a massive red flag.
Did you try to go in and mess around with the part of the system that handles running processes? Because if you started hacking away at those settings, that would explain this mess.
At this point, you might be looking at a full system repair or just biting the bullet and doing a clean reinstall of Windows to get everything back to normal. 🤷

Honestly, the best move would be to just have them dump their HijackThis log so we can actually dig in and see what's going on!

So, we're looking at that classic Kernel-Power Error ID 41 again. Honestly, it’s like when your car just decides to die in the middle of a busy intersection on the I-95 for absolutely no reason—one second you're cruising, and the next, everything just goes dark and silent. It's incredibly frustrating because the system isn't even giving you a heads-up; it just shuts down, leaves you hanging, and then acts like nothing happened when you reboot. Usually, this means the hardware hit a wall or the power supply just tapped out, leaving your PC staring at you blankly. It's a total headache.
So, did you actually go into your settings and kill the sleep function entirely, or is it still hanging around somewhere?

If you just want to tweak things, right-click on the desktop, go to View, and pick Large, Medium, or Small icons.

On my machine, once I set those icon sizes, they actually stay that way even after a full reboot!! And it carries over to every single folder I open in Windows Explorer too!

Look, I know how to do it, but is that even allowed here? We're talking piracy now, right? Pretty sure the mods would have a heart attack.

Man, I am actually dying laughing right now! 😂 🤣

Are you seriously sitting there thinking a torrent is what’s triggering your BSOD?
hahaha... give me a break, that's just ridiculous...

I mean, the only way that happens is if you're out here downloading straight-up malware from some sketchy, bottom-tier P2P site or some random tracker you found in a dark corner of the web!! Look, just send over the actual error code you get when that blue screen pops up.. snap a photo or just write it down.. then we can actually Google it and see what's really going on!

Alex Harris32 said:No way, man, that’s got nothing to do with your hardware. Everything runs perfectly fine on Vista and even on xpu.

Then we're looking at a driver issue, plain and simple!
Most of the time, when you're staring at a Blue Screen of Death, it's either a hardware failure or a driver crashing out on you!

There is zero chance it's an issue with Windows itself!

The fact that everything works fine on Vista and Windows XP doesn't change a thing.

The only thing is, I can't for the life of me figure out how to make the icons smaller. They're way too huge for my liking and it's driving me crazy,🤷🤷 🤷
so if anyone knows the trick to shrinking the icons on my desktop, please let me know!
Thanks in advance
Cheers🙏

Just left-click any icon on your desktop, hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard, and then scroll that mouse wheel!
It works like magic!

Look, I’m actually pretty happy with Windows 7 overall, but this one specific thing is driving me absolutely insane: torrenting.
Every single time I start a download, about five minutes in, I get hit with a BSOD and the whole machine just restarts on me.
I’ve tried downloading different files, switching up my client, even messing with Compatibility mode and trying to Run as administrator, but nothing works—it’s always the same result.
Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?

Thanks!

Honestly, man, that BSOD is probably being caused by your hardware, not some software glitch!
Go check your CPU and GPU temperatures right now. Also, tell me, is your rig overclocked?
Casey Palmer9 said:THANKS! I was actually looking at two of those super overclock models they have out there, but I couldn't find a single website where I could actually grab one... supposedly they run faster than the standard GTX 275?

So what's your take on the MSI N275GTX TwinFrozr OC, 896 DDR3, 448bit? They're claiming the price is $467, anyway... would a clocked-up 260 super still end up being better regardless?

Honestly, you're probably gonna need a beefier power supply if you're seriously looking at picking up that MSI card!
And when it comes down to actual performance, you're basically looking at two cards that are going to pull nearly identical numbers!
If you're really planning on stepping up to a higher class of card instead of just sticking with this one, then you should just go straight for the Zotac GTX 285

So, here's the deal. About a month ago, my BFG GF 9800 GT OC 512 died on me. It actually had a 10-year warranty, but obviously, those clowns over at Best Buy didn't have a replacement in stock, so I just took the refund and now I'm back at square one...

What would you guys recommend for gaming? I'm looking for a card somewhere in the range of $333 up to maybe $1300-$467? Needs to be PCIe, obviously. I'm running a Neon PL400W power supply, so if I need more juice than that, please let me know.
My motherboard is a DFI Lan Party X38 series.
Basically, give me the specific model and manufacturer if you can... who's your go-to?

And PLEASE, tell me where I can actually pick this up (in NYC) or order it online—I don't even care if there's shipping involved, I just want to find what I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance!

Peter Rodriguez8 said:Quick question. I finished installing Windows 7 yesterday and realized that all my old programs from my previous Windows XP setup are still sitting right there on the system partition alongside the new Windows files. Is it safe to just wipe them out? I'm getting some sort of warning saying it might cause issues, but honestly, I have no clue what that means. It feels pretty stupid to let 10 gigs of space go to waste for nothing. Thanks!

Wait, you didn't actually format the hard drive or the partition when you were installing the new OS? 🤦

Man, you really should've hit that format button, otherwise all those old files just hang around being completely useless. And honestly, if you've got two different operating systems fighting for space on the exact same partition, you're basically asking for trouble down the road!!
