Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·
Justin Mendoza16 said:☕Regarding Libya—Gaddafi basically signed his own death warrant when he pushed to neutralize big conglomerates in the Middle East and tried to unite with others to kick the dollar and US companies out of global dominance.

We all know how that played out and how it ended... plus you had all kinds of terrorism being funded by that state too...

Even if it happened with Hillary Clinton's backing, Libya was mostly a French operation. The dollar wasn't even the main driver here. Has everyone seriously forgotten those leaked emails?

Clinton emails suggest France bombed Gaddafi’s regime for oil

If control over the reactor output or the fuel itself goes out the window because of some damage, we already know how that ends for the reactor. The only real question mark is how the containment structure will hold up—specifically, whether it’ll just fail and leave everything burning out in the open like it did at Chernobyl, where the disaster turned into way more than just a standard meltdown.

But then again, that’s just my own take on it...

Is there really no chance the cloud moves east? Does it absolutely have to head south...

I mean, it clearly states right there: "Under the weather conditions of August 15-18".

It’s like when a waiter tries to charge you five times the price of a meal; it’s just a certain mindset. Honestly, it feels almost epigenetic—it might take dozens of generations of re-education before they align with what we consider "Western" moral principles.

To be honest, Ukrainian partisans and special forces have done more damage to Russia in a few months than those silly sanctions have managed in half a year.

Haha, back to the old argument that the Russian ubermensch can just survive on moonshine and vodka. 😁 But hey, we're taking it a step further now by calling it "epigenetics."

Believe it or not, Russians are still human beings—once they get a taste of consumerism, they aren't exactly rushing to give it up.

Just needs to clarify what a "reserve fund" actually is—basically just a rainy day fund for when the main budget runs dry.

We've been reading all along about how Russia is pulling in record revenue from oil sales—sanctions be damned—all thanks to those sky-high prices.

So, how does that square with a 4% drop in the second quarter? How is that even possible? (And no, that’s not a rhetorical question).

From what I can see, the US is basically shifting toward a total war economy, so GDP isn't even a useful metric here... we can't really compare the Russian GDP to anything else anymore.

Funny joke.

“I really don't want to leave Crimea. It's so cool here. I'm used to it. It's like we were at home here. Everything is so soulful, homey,” she says in Russian

I highly doubt she shed a single tear when Ukrainians were being forced out.

Basically a vivid description of how the average Russian feels when they find themselves stuck abroad.

Personally, I'd happily sign off on 64°F if it meant Americans saw gas prices drop to $2 a gallon.😁

If it makes you feel any better, the push for more ExxonMobil exports is driving up both demand and gas prices right here in the States.

Personally, gas is just a backup for me—I mostly rely on electricity (which is basically 90% coal anyway).

The European Union is still the biggest buyer of oil and gas

It's not about the federal budget—we're talking about the current account balance.

Giving up on a war isn't the same thing as a total collapse. Nobody’s actually out here calling for Russia to fall apart—even if that would probably be the best move for any sane person left in the world.
Will they back out of the war? Who knows. They folded in Afghanistan—so this isn't exactly their first rodeo. 😁

Honestly, the USSR was operating at a much higher level of civilization than modern-day Russia.

By its very nature, Europe has to be energy-dependent on someone—whether that’s the USA, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, or Russia is just a matter of politics.
Any kind of dependency like that limits the ability to maintain hegemony. The attempt at hegemony over Russia was handled in such a complex, naive way, fueled by promises from Washington that Putin would collapse under the weight of sanctions any second now.

Now we're paying the price for that naivety.
Simply put, under the threat of those sanctions, Ukraine should have been pressured to wrap up the war instead of being coddled and fed all this nationalism. If that had happened, energy dependence wouldn't be an issue, and we'd still have cheaper fuel than our competitors in East Asia.

I'm not even advocating for a total cutoff of Russian energy. The sweet spot is having dependency spread out across multiple sources. That way, if one supplier stops being reliable, you can actually pivot and cover the gap from somewhere else without everything going sideways.

That would be South Stream—which was never actually finished, so it doesn't exist. It was abandoned back in 2014.

It’s pretty wild to see what else they think they can just grab from their neighbors. Looking at this image, it feels like a total fever dream.

And here we have the Russians complaining about some old Chinese textbooks:

The text claims that according to Chinese maps, the entire Faraway East of Russia belongs to NRK, and official history books in China apparently state that "Siberia is temporarily lost territory of the Celestial Empire."

So, when are we finally getting some revolutions over in Europe? I see Russians posting on Telegram claiming they haven't even started yet compared to what happened back in 1848.
