My experience was completely different. I walked into the OR without any prior injection, they just gave me something through my IV... and then boom, gone. I woke up when everything was already finished two and a half hours later. Feeling "rested," if you can call it that, with swelling that looks nothing like yours. It was just on the surface of my nose with some tiny white bandages. I thought everyone's swelling was like mine... now I’m just shocked and terrified... I feel so bad... my swelling was barely noticeable, like a tiny scratch... I don't know who this Dr. Rajko is... but I am horrified!
Someone NEEDS to pull him out of this mess. Hang in there, get some rest, and we'll wait for updates! 😍

Well, thank God it's over. Now I just have to get those tampons removed on Monday and everything should be fine. I haven't been able to sleep properly—not really—and I can't stop crying. Everything feels itchy and weird inside. 😁 Dinko and Rajko (father and son, Tončić Clinic, over in the suburbs of Chicago)

I really regret not going to Kinčl for my father's procedure; now I'm scared of surgery for the rest of my life. 🙂

Regarding my thigh, the doctor mentioned all the nerves are concentrated right there, which is why she gave me that injection. There was a black spot in that exact same spot before. I honestly have no clue what they were doing because they were talking in code—something about a big rabbit, a small one 🤣. And no, I didn't catch any of that during that famous brain fog, since they were whispering the second I stepped into the OR. Besides, you can hear everything they say and how they're prepping anyway. Even the doctor told me before the surgery that they try to be quiet, and I just thought, "Well, I'm already here, might as well." But he said absolutely nothing about the pain!

So, what did your swelling look like? Mine is a bit smaller too, but my whole face is covered in bandages. A little purple bruising spread toward my eyes, but it's mostly staying put. 🙂

It doesn't look too gruesome. I honestly thought once the swelling peaked and especially overnight, I’d wake up looking like I just stepped out of a boxing ring. I'll take some photos of myself today and post them. Just ignore my eyebrows, hair, and how pale I look! 😁
Whenever I’m stuck in a headspace like this, I start spiraling back to my ex and our old relationship. I’ll find myself reminiscing about how incredible things actually were, replaying all those memories and videos in my head... and then I look at him and think, "Fine, you win. You hooked up with her, or whatever." But then I immediately flip the script: "Hey, I had an amazing time too, and it was beautiful!" Honestly, if he knew exactly what I was thinking right now, he’d lose his mind—he'd be just as worked up as I was two minutes ago. It’s weird, but it makes me feel so much better instantly.

It’s a bit petty, sure, but it works for me. I’m not even angry anymore. It saves us from pointless arguments and keeps me from having those jealous, hysterical outbursts. 🙂 😉

Give it a shot. It might help you too!
Ashley Young34 said:I get all that regarding the local clinic, but look, just tell me how you're actually doing now. How are you feeling? Is the pain still hitting you?🙂

Things are okay now. Honestly, the worst part is over, thank God. It hurts a little, but it’s manageable. I might post a photo tomorrow if you guys want to see—since everyone seems obsessed with the details and how everything looks—but actually, since you're all so curious, I'll just take a picture every day and add them to an album. That way you can track it all. I felt alright today; I looked pretty normal, too. No bruising or anything like that yet, though I'm sure that'll show up tomorrow or the day after. So, for today at least, here's a decent little snapshot. 🙂
Grace Williams19 said:I don't get it... did you actually feel anything during the surgery or not?
I'm out of the loop—was this through private insurance or at a public hospital using Medicare?

Oh my God..

Yeah, yeah, just post it so I can see what it looks like afterward.

So, look, first off, everyone here clearly knows I’m a total worrier, but today was actually different. I didn't panic because I was too busy thinking about my new nose. I woke up feeling super excited and showed up at the clinic with a smile on my face! 🙂 I went through a private specialist.

And one more thing, I really don't want to scare anyone, seriously. You guys have seen that there are thousands of people out there with a thousand different experiences! Everyone's journey is unique... so yours doesn't have to be like mine.😉

I got there and finally had my consultation with Rajko. Dinko was there too... he explained everything beautifully—what can be done, what can't, and what he's going to try. I told him it was great; honestly, the tip isn't as important to me as the hump. We worked it all out, and he told me not to worry about the hump.

Then I went into that little room, changed, lay down on the bed, and the nurse gave me an injection (in the thigh, just above the butt).

Then I moved to the operating table. I laid down and my veins started acting up, so they couldn't get the sedative in. It took four tries, and Rajko had to do it himself; usually, the nurses handle that, but they couldn't make it work. Then I started feeling a bit lightheaded and I was actually laughing.🙂

And so... then they waited and things got crazy! They were administering the anesthesia directly into the cartilage—kind of a deeper poke in each spot. It hurt so, so much. My hands were tied, and one nurse was holding my shoulders while another held my head, all while I was "dazed." Then I felt them cutting inside my nostril along the edge, but that didn't hurt at all. Then came the hammering (super uncomfortable but bearable, such an indescribable sensation 🙂) followed by the spreading (which was actually the best part of it all 😁), and it just cycled back and forth... hammer, spread, hammer, spread. And then, I have no idea what he was doing or with what (I'm curious, I'll ask him next time if I see him! I asked Dinko afterward, but he said he wasn't in the OR), but it hurt like hell. Again, they were holding me—one for the shoulders, one for the head—and of course, my hands were tied. Even though he was using some kind of thin, blunt drill, he was driving it in right at the top of the bone and making a mess; I don't know how to explain it to you, but it was awful. I know I spent the whole time thinking about when it would be over, praying I could endure it. My cap was soaked, and my eyelashes were wet from tears and crying. Then they trimmed the tip, which didn't hurt. Then a bit of repositioning the nose, which isn't pleasant and does hurt, but compared to the other part and the anesthesia, it's nothing. Then the packing and the molds—they put them in the left nostril first, then the right. A bit gross! 🙂

So, that's it. That's what I told Dinko when he came to see me afterward—that I remember everything, that it hurt incredibly much, and that the nurses had to hold me down. He just stayed silent and said, "Well, yeah—that administering the anesthesia hurts a little!" A little?! 😕

Once I was finished and they were putting the packing in, they kept commenting on how great my nose looked. Yeah, we'll see about that! 🙂 A nurse told me, "Alright, you're all set," helped me up, and walked me back to my bed. It was in a room with a curtain and two beds. They covered me up, bundled me in, and placed the dressing on my head and under the pad. I didn't sleep a wink. Maybe a tiny bit while they were switching out tools and stuff, but I don't even know how long the surgery actually took because we ended up sitting around like idiots in the waiting area just waiting for everyone to show up.

They put me in a room with that divider curtain, and there were three or four nurses in there sorting through paperwork. Each one was on her own side of the room, shouting back and forth to each other the entire time! They have private rooms, too, so I don't get why they didn't just put me in one of those. My nose was hurting so much that I simply couldn't fall asleep with all their noise. Then blood started trickling through the gaps, and I could barely manage to call someone over. She came and changed it for me. After that, I texted my dad to come pick me up immediately, and he showed up right away. As for the doctor, he just headed straight home. Not a word from him. The only person who stopped by was young Rajko Tončić, who wasn't even part of my surgery. He didn't really have anything to tell me, just that I'd probably have some bruising tomorrow or the day after.

They only gave me two pills and two gauze pads to use if the bleeding starts again.

So, that’s my experience. My conclusion? Don't bother paying for the anesthesiologist!
Personally, I am never going through an operation like this again without general anesthesia, even if I end up bleeding for three days straight, losing sleep, and feeling like garbage. The one thing I was actually afraid of turned out to be true—I ended up stitching myself up. 😁

But the worst part is over. I asked about getting the packing removed, which was supposed to be Saturday, but after thinking about it for a minute, he told me to just come in on Monday instead. 🙄

A guy was scheduled before me to have his staples removed, and he was in the room right next to mine. The doors were open, and he mentioned that I was making a scene. I don't remember it that way. Honestly, I was struggling the whole time because of the pain and talking, but I thought I was doing all that internally. Maybe I wasn't, and the nurses kept telling me, "Almost done, hang in there, just a little longer..."

I don't look too bad right now, and I don't have any massive bruising. I didn't have much today, just a tiny bit near the corner of my nose, but it was mostly hidden by the cast. Now, though, it looks like it might be spreading toward the other side this evening.

So yeah, that's the deal. These packs are annoying, and it hurts to laugh because the tape pushes them up into my nose. Plus, I'm constantly miserable because of the blood tickling inside, breathing through my mouth, and all that usual stuff.

If anyone asks if I would do it this way again, the answer is a hard NO. Only with general anesthesia next time!!

My boyfriend emailed me some pictures since they're on his computer, but he won't open one of them, so you'll just have to settle for this one for now:

If you have any questions, just ask!
I'm back home. Surgery is over, and honestly, I'm speechless. I am never, ever going under general anesthesia again. I don't know how you all managed to sleep through yours, but I certainly didn't. I maybe caught five minutes of shut-eye when they were swapping out the hammers and drills! I’m not trying to scare anyone, and I won't be posting a play-by-play here, but if someone really wants me to dictate the entire surgical process, just send me a PM. It was pure chaos. To make matters worse, they didn't even get the sedative into my system until after the fourth needle prick. First they went left, then up, then down on my arm, then the right arm, and finally they tried the exact same spot where the nurse drew blood during my initial checkups..

But whatever, the main thing is that it's over! Though, if anyone asks me if I’d ever do this again under that kind of anesthesia? The answer is a hard no.

It was a nightmare. The only thing they got right was saying everything would feel like a dream—except right now, it feels more like a fever dream, like being snatched away by those guys from the hostel.

And yeah, sure, my eyes will be closed (well, technically, because there’s a massive surgical light right in your face along with three smaller ones from the doctors and nurses).
Donna Wells90 said:Look, I’d love to be heading home too, but let’s be real—if I actually told them I wanted out, do you honestly think they'd just let me walk?😕

I honestly think they’d just make something up. Once they start throwing all that technical jargon around at you, your brain just hits a wall and goes blank.
Nancy Allen said:Don't stress out too much. Dr. Rajko Tončić is going to check you over again right before the surgery anyway—they have to finalize the plan or whatever. I had my consultation with Dr. Rajko Tončić, and then they examined me again on the actual day of my procedure (both of them), which felt totally normal to me. Honestly, given how nervous I was, it was actually pretty comforting! You really just need to decide if this surgery is something you want and how important it is to you personally... Anyway, good luck! Let us know how it goes. 😉

I know... hopefully everything turns out fine 🙂. I'm heading in for tests tomorrow. Just one more day of testing, then tomorrow after that! 😲 And I actually have a straight nose! Of course I want the surgery, I just wanted Rajko to be the one to examine me properly. It seems logical that he should explain everything to me (the younger guy didn't explain a single thing to me... nothing at all. I was the one doing all the talking while he just sat there saying, "Ohhh, we could potentially do thiiis..." 😁
I’m done thinking about that anesthesia situation or quoting anything regarding it! 🙂 It’s better for me this way...
ruggednomad said:hi,
I chose Tončić after doing some serious digging online. I was looking for someone with actual experience, an ENT specialist who works in a high-end facility and doesn't just treat every nose the exact same way. Their website looked solid, so I went in for a consultation. I liked the doctor and the whole vibe of the office, so I booked my surgery for next month right then and there.

The surgery was over in a flash. It hurt a little bit until they gave me the local anesthetic in my nose, but for most of the procedure, I was actually awake. Even so, nothing—absolutely nothing—hurt.

Wait, you're kidding! She was conscious?! Now I'm actually getting nervous thinking I might pass out... My biggest fear—the one thing that's been eating at me—is the idea of actually seeing what they're doing and feeling it. Not the pain, obviously, because that would be way too much, but just that weird, uncomfortable sensation of them "fixing" things inside you. 😱😱🙂
James Kelly said:Yeah, I'm just a big grouch, I have zero friends, I'm everything you want me to be...

Whatever. That doesn't change the fact that you're insecure and you're letting others dictate whether you go under the knife or not, instead of doing it "for yourself."

So what if she's insecure? And what if I am? Either way, you don't actually believe anyone when they claim they aren't doing things just to please other people...
Look, why don't you just go scurry off to your runaway mistress and leave us alone to enjoy ourselves? If you don't have anything intelligent to contribute, then don't bother typing at all.div>
vividfox said:Just deal with it. It’s really not that big of a deal. 😉A close friend of mine has a situation that looks almost identical to this, and she’s planning to get it sorted out soon. She has a toddler running around, though, so finding even a two-week window of peace and quiet feels like mission impossible right now. 😁

From your mouth straight into God's ear! 😁

So, I've got a few dumb questions... 🤣

For those of you who’ve already gone through surgery or are currently prepping for it: what did you wear when you arrived, and what were you wearing during the actual procedure? Also, what are you planning on bringing with you?

Do I actually need to bring anything with me, or is they going to provide everything there? My sister didn't mention a single thing to me about it. 🤷
vividfox said:Ugh, I didn't have any photos of my own nose on my profile either😉
Just crop it and post it so we can see... don't worry, we've all been there!😂

That's a nose! 😁 Okay, I'll try now, just gotta figure out how.. 🙂

Edit: There, hope I got it right.. if not, I'll just post the whole picture..

briskorca6 said:Here’s the deal. I’m jumping back into this conversation after scrolling through dozens of pages. Some of you probably already know my situation, but I have to
bring it up again because I can't stop thinking about it. I'm 14 years old, and I'm looking into nose surgery.
There are a few things eating at me. For one, I have a nasal deformity affecting part of my sinus. Because of that, I end up with
some kind of lung issue, constant congestion, or something else every three months or so. Right now, my lymph nodes are swollen, supposedly due to the sinuses. On top of needing surgery for the health issues and the deformity, I'm also worried about how it looks. I don't mind having a swollen face for a few months if it fixes my health or my appearance. Basically, my question is: is it possible to do a nose job that covers both medical and aesthetic needs? Can I fix the health stuff and the look in one single surgery? If you know what I mean. Also, I'm wondering about the average cost. By the way, my parents are totally on board with whatever I decide.
Thanks!

Just read through these 42 pages on the forum. I'm pretty sure you'll find all the info you need there.. 🙂
George Ramos11 said:Hey Laura Booth6, shoot those photos over to my email at divided_by_zero_0@hotmail.com (copy/paste) so we can talk about what comes next. I didn't think you were replying to me personally; I thought you were just responding to an earlier post. I might be able to schedule the surgery for early October, so I'm curious to hear what you've decided on regarding how to proceed. Thanks.

I sent one photo over. I'm looking for the others now, but I don't have many on hand—and I'm sure everyone here knows why. 😬 😉
Susan Watson31 said:I wasn't ignoring you, I promise. My surgery is set for September 16th, so once I'm through the healing process, I'll actually have some real answers for you regarding what you asked about.🙂
I honestly really liked Dr. Rajko Tončić. He’s incredibly thorough and doesn't skip over the important details during an exam. It was actually a pleasure talking to him. I was pretty surprised to find out that my bone and cartilage sections were separated—it's causing swelling and redness, which is why I can't even wear glasses without using a wet cotton pad to soothe the area. That's why everything shifted toward the impact site. Anyway, I finally have some clarity and a plan to fix this. The result should be straight, smooth, and tapered perfectly to match my facial features and head shape. I can't wait to get it over with.

I wish he had been the one examining me too... 😢
George Ramos11 said:Fine.. you guys ignored my first post.. whatever.. I'll just decide for myself who my surgeon is going to be.. thanks anyway.. my second question is this: has anyone on this forum actually fully recovered from their surgery? Is a "total recovery" even a thing? Does there exist a state after surgery where things feel exactly like they did before? Has anyone here actually reached that stage? You all talk constantly about post-op problems, but I haven't heard a single person say, "I'm not in pain at all.. it's been about a year and it feels like I never even had the surgery." What's the point of all this then?

Who ignored you? I answered you with everything I knew right after you posted, and I even offered to email you a copy of my own medical records😂 😂
vividfox said:Well, you’ll definitely be feeling yourself at first... but once the hype totally dies down... you won't believe what you're seeing. 😲 I still find myself staring at my own profile thinking, WOW, I look incredible! 😁Don't worry, you'll be on cloud nine!😍

You're crazy! 😂 😂 😂I can actually see that happening; I think it's going to go exactly like that! 😍 😍I used to struggle just to get a decent profile shot, but now I’ll probably be obsessing over getting the perfect angle every single time.😂

I just hope I don't screw it up—hopefully I'm not that unlucky.
coastaltinker13 said:Regarding anesthesia, there’s really nothing to worry about. You won't hear anything, see anything, or heaven forbid, feel anything. They don't use general anesthesia because waking up from it is harder, and apparently, there's more bleeding under general (according to him). You just show up, lie down, get the shot, and you're out cold. 🙂 I woke up in the recovery room after everything was already finished without even realizing how I got there. There are zero lingering effects from the anesthesia either. I know some people find general anesthesia nauseating or feel groggy for way too long.

I have no idea why they won't do it under general anesthesia. I know there are risks involved, but honestly, I would sign anything and pay extra if it meant getting general—it just isn't an option!! And I've been trying to talk them into it so much... I'm actually more worried about this type of anesthesia than I am about general. From what I can tell, the Mayo Clinic works with general anesthesia 🙂

I'm seriously starting to think about pushing this all off and going to the Mayo Clinic, at least just for a consultation.. 😕 But my boyfriend already booked his mole removal for the morning right before my surgery! Aaaaaaaa, I'm so torn!

It's Thursday, which means I should be having my surgery in exactly one week! 😲 😲 😍

Why are you guys even stressing out and replying to these amateurs like Sarah Wood8 is doing?!

I can't even imagine myself with a straight nose! I think I might actually fall off my chair once they take the mold off! 😬
I mean, his website literally lists the price at $10,000 right there in the catalog... 🤷
Look, I’ve got a bump on my nose, and honestly, that’s the main reason I decided to go through with surgery. I can email you some photos if you want, or just post them here if anyone else is curious... but yesterday, we all sat down and agreed that my nose is just way too big for my face overall. Between the fleshy tip and, of course, that bump... 😲 😁

So, if it were up to me, I’d get rid of the bump and fix the tip as much as possible. 🙂 The surgeon gave me a quote of $10,000 right away (that includes the consultation $83 and I think the exam is about $200, though you could always just see your own doctor for that)

I’m still pretty nervous about the anesthesia, though! I would give anything to skip it!
