What You Want Soon

What You Want Soon isn't available on Spotify or Deezer, so we might as well give them some space right here.

Somehow I somehow got Bullet For My Valentine mixed up with these guys, and honestly, I’ve never actually listened to them before. I just clicked on this by accident, but it actually hit the spot right away. Looks like they've got my vibe for the week!

My dentist actually popped a filling out of a completely different tooth while he was pulling one—real artist, right? 👍

Sandra Clark88 said:I don't think it's about anything else; it’s just music that either clicks with you during puberty or it never does. My mom used to blast Iggy Pop, and my neighbor was always listening to thrash metal, so I basically "leveled up" to heavier stuff naturally back in middle school. As I got older, certain things just started grating on my nerves. These days, there's almost zero chance I'll go out to see some death metal band I haven't already grown accustomed to. I think what you're feeling is totally normal—don't sweat it if some stuff doesn't hit the mark for you.

It's also interesting how music eventually becomes an "acquired taste." The odds of me actually diving into something completely foreign are slim; I'd much rather stick to what I love and what I'm used to.

The only time I can really absorb something new is when I'm in a particularly good mood.
Lisa Davis46 said:It wasn't mentioned. I honestly had no clue she was ever part of a metal band like that, and let’s be real—that tacky, half-naked figure on the cover you linked has absolutely nothing to do with Björk. But it's interesting, because in some interviews she actually pointed toward that specific genre. In the American (Death or Black Metal?) scene, the explicit bashing of women, vampires, violence, and blood are all bundled together as something totally normalized and easy to swallow. Personally, I find that incredibly problematic, especially since it's mostly marketed to a male audience.

That’s not quite how it works. When it comes to the American Black Metal scene, it’s mostly this whole anti-Christian narrative, burning churches (like Burzum), Viking heritage, and all that stuff. As for the Death Metal scene, I can't even think of two or three American Death Metal bands off the top of my head, let alone their specific themes. Sure, there are disgusting subgenres like pornogrind, but that's way too obscure; very few people even stumble upon that, let alone listen to it.

Regarding the idea that it's being served up to a male audience—I think that's a bit of an overblown argument. Most of the hardcore metalheads I know wouldn't even step on an ant.

p.s. Someone brought up Chelsea Wolf; she's incredible, she has a couple of truly top-tier albums!

The Unholy Alliance show was easily one of the greatest live sets I've ever witnessed. Lombardo is an absolute beast behind the kit; watching him work is something else entirely. Honestly, I’m feeling the itch for another concert lately.

Sandra Clark88 said:I honestly can’t be bothered to slog through the entire intro, so I’m not sure if it mentions that Björk used to front that band Shellyz Raven—you know, the one whose single album usually shows up on those "stupid/WTF covers" or "what were they thinking?" lists. The reason is right here (nudity). And the lyrics? Just as "profound": I am crying, and there are no tears... I am bleeding, and there is no blood... I am dying, and there is no death...

After her fallout with the metal scene, it looks like she moved to some corner of the world where vampires, periods, and peel-off masks are considered intriguing, maybe even avant-garde, who knows…
Out of pure curiosity, I gave the album a listen thinking it might be a fun distraction, and I wasn't disappointed; I haven't read such a massive pile of nonsense that Björk so emphatically shat out in a long time. Personally, since I deal with monthly cramps so bad I can barely walk and I’ve even missed work because I was physically incapacitated, Björk didn't move me one bit. It’s like Cinderella doesn't live in the 21st century, but in ancient Persia or something, where you're expected to just sit in a hole in the ground while your period lasts.

While reading the lyrics, I couldn't help but think of Stendhal when he mocks German writers, which I think perfectly captures Björk's pretentiousness:

"They do not write because they are tormented by certain ideas about an object, but because they believe they have found an object about which, with sufficient effort and necessary research, something great can be invented; to this end, they read and reflect. In the end, they usually arrive at some strange and paradoxical realization. With this, a brilliant work is created; now they only need to establish it with the full artillery of their erudition and transcendent philosophy."

As for the music, there isn't much to say. It’s boring, predictable, and this whole tantrum on the third 🤦 makes it absolute trash

is more than enough to trigger my morbid curiosity to actually listen to this album 😁

Joe just can't get himself worked up if he actually tried.

It’s like sitting through some prehistoric, unthawed caveman jam session where nobody actually knows how to play their instruments.

Lisa Davis46 said:Look, I’ve been losing my mind since yesterday morning. I was finally supposed to pack up, leave work and all this chaos behind, and head out to a private island for a few weeks of peace. Now? Everything is up in the air. Honestly, that isn't even the part that's killing me; I might just end up heading north on my own just to get some distance from everyone. The whole thing fell apart because a friend of mine—who had no idea what she was walking into—was staying at her place and ended up in close contact with two people who tested positive for the virus. They only found out yesterday. The kicker is that this couple already knew they’d been exposed, but they didn't say a damn thing. They went ahead with the visit anyway, hanging out and swimming for a few days like nothing was wrong, even though my friend has a small child. She’s still stuck there right now, waiting to hear from the health department tomorrow if she needs to go get tested in a place like Chicago or D.C., or if she just has to quarantine for two weeks. To me, the real issue here isn't the virus itself; it's the fact that people simply refuse to act responsibly. Most people are just looking out for their own damn selves. It feels like everyone has suddenly gotten careless and relaxed, even though the infection numbers aren't dropping one bit. And don't even get me started on seeing used masks and gloves tossed all over the streets of the city; I won't even go there because it just makes my blood boil.

People are still hiding their contacts, too. It’s like when they’re being interrogated and they intentionally withhold names just so they don't end up in total isolation. It really shows how selfish people can be and how little they actually care about anyone else. Personally, I follow most of the guidelines; I’m relatively young and in great shape, so I’m not exactly worried about my own health. But you don't do this for yourself—you do it for the high-risk people you might run into, like your own parents. Then you have these absolute legends out there protesting all over the country, screaming about freedom and "level playing fields" or refusing vaccines. Honestly? Eat shit.

I honestly don't have much to say about Maniacal Vale, but if you want my two cents, here it is. It’s one of those things that people either absolutely love or just don't get at all, and frankly, I can see why. I remember sitting around a dive bar in Chicago back in the day, listening to some guy try to explain why this specific sound was the future of everything, and I just rolled my eyes. It felt pretentious then, and it still feels a bit like that now. You can argue about the technicality or the atmosphere all you want, but at the end of the day, it’s either hitting for you or it isn't. There's no middle ground with stuff like this.

Lisa Davis46 said:I don't know about you guys... I’ve never been someone who gets the chills, and honestly, I'm not even a summer person,
but yesterday and today I’ve basically been sitting in my office wearing thick thermal socks and a heavy sweater.
Is this autumn already?

Now we’re finally hitting the best part of the year—that sweet spot where late summer bleeds into early fall. It’s not scorching during the day, and the nights actually get cool enough to get some decent sleep.

Plus, you get those incredible autumn colors. It's the perfect time to head out with a camera and just wander.

That intro bit is what actually gets me interested. Basically, you have to sell it to me first; otherwise, I'm probably not going to bother listening.👍
